Bedroom Makeover for a Teen Boy & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #783
Three years ago, I began some bedroom painting for my children. It started with the blue nebula photowall installed in the “game room”. A few months later, I painted the attached bedroom that my kids shared in bright orange and yellow at their request. It looked like a box of crayons exploded on the walls but it was fun and cheerful and totally appropriate for my 9 and 11 year boys. Last year, my niece came to stay with us for a few months and we converted the game room into her bedroom furnished with bunk beds borrowed from my neighbor and lots of feminine decor. We retained the blue…

Think Pink for Autumn & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #782
As you may already know from my many adventures in thrifting and my various upcyle projects, I am passionate about secondhand shopping and giving new life to old things. But sometimes I do still love to shop my favorite retail stores and add some brand new pieces to my wardrobe. As we transitioned into the colder months, I finally had to put my summer dresses into hibernation and take inventory of my leggings, tee shirts, and long cardigans as these three items constitute the basic formula for my every day cold weather wear. I was getting a little bored with my leggings and tee shirts and wanted to add a…

Homecoming, Halloween, Home Decor & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #781
For today’s post, I am just sharing some recent goings-on in my household and with my family. A few weeks before Halloween, Archie, who is now a freshman in high school (how in the world did that happen so quickly?), attended his first Homecoming dance. He and his friend went together and they just looked so darn handsome that it brought tears to my eyes! At my request, I also got a water fountain photo of Archie and his BFF who just happens to be the literal girl next door and one of my favorite humans on earth! Halloween followed Homecoming and we went big this year with homemade costumes…

Vintage Sewing Machine Table Makeover & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #780
Back in July, I was on a local thrifting adventure when I found this amazing vintage Bradford sewing machine table for just $9.99. I was in need of another small table in my downstairs hallway after I had moved the vintage gossip bench to its new home and this table was the perfect size. Plus it had all of its original sewing machine parts with it. I have not yet tested it though to see if the machine actually works. I have a newer sewing machine that I purchased a few years ago that works just fine so I don’t really have a need for the vintage machine. Actually, I…

What’s the Big Hurry About & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #779
I need to rant. I was going to post my rant on social media but I have found that people on social media have increasingly become a mean and nasty bunch who will literally tear you apart for just about anything. So I decided to keep my rants on my own platform where you can choose to read it or not and I can block any ignorant comments that may be posted. So there. The question that leads to my rant is this…Why is everyone is such a hurry lately? I have noticed that most drivers on the road these days completely disregard speed limits. Unless I am misunderstanding the…

Salvaged Kitchen Table and Vintage Chairs Makeover & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #778
Last Friday, I shared the green bedroom furniture that I refurbished for my friend Melissa and I promised to share the kitchen set that I also fixed up and gifted to her. Back in early spring, I spotted this old round formica-topped kitchen table placed on the curb in front of a neighbor’s house for trash pickup. I was really drawn to the spindly legs and the fact that there were five of them so I asked my husband to bring the table home for me. I had planned to remove the legs to use for some unidentified purpose and ditch the ugly formica table top. But after further investigation,…

Bedroom Furniture Upcyle Project & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #777
A few months ago, my neighbor had an old dresser that she was going to throw away unless I wanted it. Of course, I wanted it! One of my favorite things is to give new life to unwanted junk. You know the old saying…one person’s junk is another person’s treasure? Well, I have found that there are always treasures to be found amongst the junk. With a little bit of care and some creativity, you can transform old broken furniture into beautiful new functional one of a kind pieces. When I accepted the dresser, I had no need and no room for another piece of furniture so I decided to…

When Youthful Invincibility Departs & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #776
Remember the days of youth when your young healthy body never let you down or made you question your mortality? Ahhh, those were the days when hope abounded and worry wasn’t a daily activity. This week abruptly forced me to face the fact that I am indeed aging. Like old machinery, old bodies start to experience glitches and other malfunctions and don’t recover as quickly as young bodies. About 2 weeks ago, my 14 year old caught a coxsackievirus, the sort that causes that awful illness known as hand, foot, and mouth disease. He went to the school nurse on a Thursday complaining of painful blisters on his hands. She…

Making My Summer Wardrobe Work for Fall & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #775
Fall has officially arrived but the weather is indicating otherwise. We have been steadily experiencing summer-like weather all month with the average daily temperatures sitting around 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit above normal for this time of year. Granted, summer didn’t officially end until a few days ago, but if you are familiar with the North Country climate, then you know that we generally have two seasons here…Winter and July. In fact, in the 12 years that I have lived in Watertown, New York, the only months that I have not seen snow are July and August. It is not at all uncommon for frost to occur from September through June with…

Last Days of Summer & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #773
With the official calendar ending of summer happening in just 10 short days, I am whole heartedly hanging on to my summer wardrobe. The temperatures have been milder than normal for this time of year and I am embracing it. Our 10 day forecast is showing all sunshine with temperatures fluctuating from the 50s at night to the 70s and even 80s during the day time. It truly is the perfect weather. Now if it could just stick around until November or December or even all year round, I would not have very many weather complaints at all. But alas, I know too well that winter always comes to these…
