Front Porch Makeover: Phase 1 Complete & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #770
Heading into the weekend of July 4, I decided to give my front porch a makeover. The wood was starting to look a bit too weatherworn for my taste and I figured a fresh coat of paint would cheer it up while also offering some weather protection for the aging wood. I actually believed that I could complete this project over the course of the 3 day weekend but I very quickly recognized that this was a crazy impossible goal. In fact, it turns out that this painting project is so big that I need to complete it in phases. Phase 1 was all about getting the paint onto the…

Vintage Gossip Bench Makeover & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #768
This is a story about a vintage gossip bench, also called a telephone table, that was forcibly given to me against my will. Many years ago, my sister picked up this cute little piece of vintage furniture at a yard sale for $3. It sat in its original form in her shed until last summer when I visited and she insisted that I take the chair home with me. I argued that I did not have space in my car or my home for another piece of old furniture but she still managed to jam the thing into the back of my vehicle anyway. I couldn’t find any markings on…

Living Room Table Makeover & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #766
I have been a painting fool lately, upgrading everything I can with a fresh coat of color, like my front door, my dining room table, a secondhand desk, repurposed dressers, and a bunch of other things I haven’t even shared with you yet, including this antique table. I bought this table at an estate sale back in 2011. It was actually two tables when I found it. It had been cut in half and mounted to the walls as two smaller two-legged end tables. I thought it was such a clever way to repurpose a table that I had to have them. I don’t remember what they cost but it…

Adventures in Thrifting Part 19: Blue and White Cotton Dress & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #765
I went on a little thrifting adventure a few weeks ago in search of green dishes. After finishing my dining set makeover, I decided that I want to replace my current set of dishes with a mismatched set of secondhand dishes…all in some shade of green. It will take some time but I do enjoy the hunt so I don’t mind. I did buy a few green dishes to start my collection but I don’t plan on photographing them until my collection is complete. Regardless of what I’m looking for when I embark on a thrifting adventure, there are a few areas that I always check…the first being dresses. I…

Pink Peacock Wrap & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #764
Before I get to the pink peacock wrap, do you remember my burnt ochre dress from last summer? When I shared the third styling of that super comfortable dress, I mentioned that I had recently found the same dress in black. It was on clearance because it is last summer’s dress. But I don’t care about which summer this dress was manufactured for retail sale because when you get to my age all the summers start blending together and you are no longer a slave to the “current” trends. It took me decades to settle into my “old gray haired hippie” aesthetic and I have no intention of changing it…

School’s Out for Summer & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #763
It has been a very busy end of school season with last Thursday marking the final day for my kids. In September, Ralph will be moving up to 7th grade in the middle school and Archie will be heading off to 9th grade in the high school. The week before school was out for summer, we attended the Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival in Pennsylvania. After 3 days of rural camping, we came home dirty and exhausted but my kids still managed to push through that final week of school like superstars. Just before the festival, we helped Ralph complete a giant diorama for his final ELA project. He recreated…

In Memory of Patrick Weseman & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #762
Last Tuesday, I woke up to very sad news in my Facebook feed. My dear blogging friend Patrick of Adventures in Weseland passed away suddenly on June 16, 2025. I can’t even describe how I felt when I saw the post. I guess it was just pure sadness. I simply sat there and cried. Patrick was one of the kindest, friendliest, and compassionate people I have ever encountered in this life and the world was a better place with him in it. I sure am going to miss reading his lovely comments, checking out his adventures on his blog, and opening his unexpected emails that always brought a smile to…

Hiking Coney Mountain & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #761
We are currently unplugged from our phones and computers while we are enjoying the beautiful views and stellar music at the Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival in “God’s Country”, Pennsylvania. Because we are unplugged, I rarely take photographs at the festival so I never have anything to share here afterwards. Instead, I am going to share some photos of our family hike at Coney Mountain in Tupper Lake, New York. Memorial Day week was a busy one for us with my husband’s birthday falling on the actual holiday this year and my birthday arriving at the end of that week. To celebrate his birthday, Jeff really wanted to go on…
