A Big Blanket Story Worth Sharing & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #806

Don’t you just love it when you find an amazing product and then later discover that the company itself is equally amazing?
This is exactly what happened with the Big Blanket Company and it is a story that is absolutely worth sharing.
My first introduction to the Big Blanket Company happened right before the holidays when their ads were bombarding all of my social media accounts. Many unwanted advertisements just annoy me, but every once in a while there is one that really grabs my attention. As a person who tends to run cold, the idea of a wearable blanket really appealed to me and I began hankering for one. However, the price tag deterred me so I put it out of my head. And then my husband surprised me at Christmas with the beautiful moss colored Premier Plush™ Wrap.
When I shared my new Big Blanket wrap back in March, Nancy commented on the post, “It’s a fantastic blanket and I wished I had one. I’m always cold.” Her comment immediately gave me the best idea ever!
A few weeks earlier, Nancy and I were on our monthly Zoom call and we had a tearful moment that really made me wish I could hug my friend. But we live on different continents so an actual physical in-person hug will likely never happen. However, I had written that “the Big Blanket Wrap was designed to feel like a warm embrace. The kind of warmth that makes you feel a little safer and a little sassier.” I decided the closest thing to an actual hug would be a Big Blanket wrap!
So I ordered the Big Blanket Premier Plush™ Wrap in Wine (it has already sold out in this beautiful color) and had it shipped directly to Nancy in the Netherlands.
And this where my challenges arose. But the Big Blanket Company handled every one quickly and graciously. And I am so thankful.

My first issue started with a credit to my Big Blanket account that I couldn’t use. After Nancy’s wrap was purchased, I received a thank you credit of $20 towards my next purchase. With the credit and a huge sale happening, I decided it was the perfect time to get myself the deep purple wrap that I have been wanting for Ralph’s sporting events. However, when I went to the checkout page, it would not allow me to apply my credit. I was getting very frustrated because I could see it in my account, but it would not even give me the option of applying it to my order.
So I emailed the company’s customer service. They responded within a few hours but even with their assistance, the credit still could not be applied. I finally realized that the reason I couldn’t use my credit is because it was awarded in Euros instead of US dollars. When I purchased Nancy’s wrap, it converted my payment to Euros and as a result the credit was issued in that same currency. As I was shipping my own order in the United States, it reverted back to US currency and so the credit in Euros could not be applied.
I emailed the company once again explaining what I had discovered and asked if they were able to convert my credit to US dollars. Again, I received a response within a few hours. While they were unable to convert the currency, they simply converted the amount to US dollars and issued me a gift card for that amount. I immediately ordered the purple wrap for myself. Since my wrap didn’t have as far to travel, I received it long before Nancy’s arrived in the Netherlands.

Now here’s where the really big problem arose. I sent the wrap to Nancy as a surprise so she was not expecting it. I was tracking its movement very closely and was very excited when I finally saw that it was out for delivery in her neighborhood. I kept checking on it throughout the day and it went from “out for delivery” to “package rejected-returned to sender”.
Say what??? I had no idea what to do at this point, so I reached out to Nancy because we previously had issues the last time I sent something to her. She immediately called her local delivery center and was told that they had the package there but they could not release it to her because it was rejected. They also confirmed that it had been rejected in error by the delivery person. Despite admitting it was their own error, they absolutely refused to give the package to her.
So I emailed the Big Blanket Company once again. They reached out to their international delivery team and were also unable to intercept the package before it began its journey back to the United States. But they immediately offered me a solution. Since the original wrap was going straight back to them as the shipper, they offered to send a replacement (via a different carrier) and it arrived to Nancy just a few days later.
While the surprise was ruined by the delivery mishap, I kept the color of the wrap a secret from Nancy. And just look how gorgeous this wine color looks her. She finally received a warm friendly hug from me!
Now let me share a few quick notes about the outfit I styled with my new deep purple Big Blanket Premier Plush™ Wrap. First of all, it is the perfect color for school sporting events since our colors are purple and white. I wore this exact outfit without my Big Blanket or hat to Ralph’s first track meet. I brought my wrap along but it was too warm to wear it and it was way too windy for a wide brimmed hat. I did wear the wrap and a hat to the next track meet because it got wicked cold. I’ll share that outfit soon.
For this styling, I paired a new purple long sleeve tee with black leggings, black cowgirl boots, and a black lightweight duster. I have been getting really irritated lately with the lengths of my scarves. They are all just too darn short for my taste. So I took a purple scarf and tied black white neckerchiefs to each end of it to extend its length and I loved it so much that I have taken to tying multiple scarves together for all sorts of outfits lately.
Keeping with my purple, black, and white color palette, I layered on black and white necklaces and a new pair of giant white thrifted earrings that I picked up recently for $1. They are huge and bright and I love them. Next I added all of my purple, black, and white brooches to my black floppy hat for some extra bling. Finally, I wore my new purple waist pouch that I picked up at the Fort William Henry Museum gift shop on our recent date weekend.
Jeff has not stopped teasing me about my fanny pack but I have no shame in it at all. It is super convenient for sporting events and all other outings that I want to have my hands free for. Finally, I topped the outfit with my new purple Big Blanket wrap. I felt warm, cozy, stylish, sassy, practical, purposeful, and very purple!

Wow! What a story. I’m glad Nancy finally got her blanket, and how sweet of you to send her one. Thanks for the party.

That’s what I don’t get about postal services. They make a mistake, but you have the problem. Oh, the stories I could tell …

It seems to be a common thing these days to not accept responsibility for our mistakes. It’s very frustrating! Honestly, I think the delivery person was probably at the end of their shift and just rejected everything they didn’t get to. I might be wrong, but it makes sense for today’s culture. Thanks for stopping by, Cat!

Thanks so much, Jodie! I feel like our society spends so much time complaining that we forget to take the time to sing some praises when they are deserved!

Ya know…if they were smart, they’d definitely have you write a testimonial and feature it in their ads! You have to be the best advertiser ever! I’m glad Nancy got her Big Blanket eventually. I remember her blog post about it. You have a giant, warm, and caring heart, Shelbee. This world is so much better for you being in it. I love the way you added those brooches to your hat. It’s just such a fun and easy change but makes a huge statement. It’s nice to know some companies still believe in customer service. Thanks, my friend, for the link up!

Aww, Marsha, thank you so much, dear friend. Your kind words have really hit me in the heart! Every morning I say a little meditation that goes like this, “Just for today, I will be grateful. I will not worry. I will not anger. I will do my work honestly. I will be kind to myself and others.” And then I make my very best efforts to stick to every bit of it. Then I repeat it the next day and do the same. I have been doing this daily for years. It really does keep me honest and focused on kindness. The hardest part of it for me is the “I will not worry” part. I’m a momma and a worrier by nature so that one is definitely a struggle. All the rest of it actually comes pretty easily after saying this little chant for as long as I have been doing it. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a very happy Mother’s Day!

Hi, Shelbee – That’s a great blanket wrap, really cool! I agree that whenever we can leave a positive comment for workers, it’s great encouragement for them because most of the time they get complaints. Thanks for the linkup! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

Thanks, Angie! Yes, we are way too quick to start screaming the complaints and we don’t draw enough attention to the good stuff. Even though the world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket, there is still a lot of good stuff in it! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend.

Thanks for the feature!
What a lovely gesture and what excellent customer service by the Big Blanket Co. You don’t see that very often these days.
On a scarf note, you want longer ones – I look for short ones!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Gail! I had to share about this company because of their amazing customer service. Today’s culture seems to always be so quick to write the complaints and then ignore the good stuff. We need to draw attention to the good stuff more often! I am starting to look for shorter scarves now so I can tie them to the end of the medium length scarves! Hahaha. Neckerchiefs definitely are more difficult to find especially in thrift stores. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

What a journey for the blanket right! But it’s the best hug! I wore it last Wednesday again, when it was so cold. I can wrap myself totally in it!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Although the surprise was ruined, I am so glad that it got there and that you are loving it! I really struggled over which color to pick for you. I am loving the wine color on you! I wore my purple one again last night at Ralph’s track meet. I am so glad that I have it. It is perfect for the cool night times even in spring. And it’s gigantic so you can get totally wrapped up in it! Sometimes, when I’m lying on the couch, I use as a blanket without even putting it on.

Oh Shelbee, I love your kindness and this story. I love how the internet and blogs brings people together, and how you sent Nancy a big hug in the form of a blanket. I think you’re a lovely person who definitely makes the world more beautiful with this gesture.
P.S. Dutch postal services are terrible!!! I’ve often got a message I wasn’t home so they couldn’t deliver the package and sent it back, when I definitely was home the whole day.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Nicole, thank you so much for your kind words! That really made me day. I wake up each day and vow to be kind to myself and everyone else. The world does not need any more negativity, that’s for sure. Oh my gosh, this is my second issue with Dutch delivery services. The first time I had ordered Nancy’s oxygen glasses because they were going out of business and discontinued international shipping. So we had them sent to me and then I sent them to Nancy. Somehow they were delivered to a nearby business address. Nancy was able to track them down and get them but the customs shipping label that was on the box was totally different from the one I attached to the box when I sent it. My shipping label had Nancy’s name and address, obviously, and the new one had this strange business address. But we have no idea how the label changed during transit. It was super weird! This time around, Nancy had checked her cameras and no delivery person ever attempted to deliver anything. That’s why I think the delivery person quit in the middle of their route! At least everything arrived eventually! I hope you have a lovely weekend and thank you again.

Oh Shelee, what a wild story that is! I am so glad that you persevered, and that Nancy is so pleased with her warm cozy present. It is lovely that a company like the Big Blanket Company has good customer service. It is so hard to come by currently. I love your outfit in your purple blanket monochrome look. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for sharing!
