A Bit of Gore for Our Halloween Porch Decor
Last year was the very first time that we have decorated for Halloween. Up until then, my kids were content with cheap costumes and candy. Now that they are 7 and 9, they are getting much more into all things gory and bloody and creepy and gross…especially at Halloween time. Probably because that’s the only time this mom will indulge them! Anyway, I promised to share our Halloween front porch decorations. It is nothing elaborate and probably a bit more silly than scary, but we had a lot of fun doing it. Remember these giant animal heads from last Halloween…I wore one in my Halloween Costume look with Monica and…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Camouflage & Link Up On the Edge #215
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye. This month’s theme is Camouflage. So let’s get right…

Halloween Costumes Again & Your Own Twist Link Up #25
Monica and I are back for the third year in a row with our Halloween costumes for Your Own Twist. We kicked off this fun little monthly collaboration in October of 2018 with our Fashion Icon Halloween costumes. Last year, we both styled outfits around our giant unicorn heads and this year we decided to keep it a bit simpler and we each donned colorful wigs and cosplay inspired outfits. Your Own Twist is a link up collaboration between me and Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart. On the third Thursday of every month, we will host the Your Own Twist Link Up with the goal of inspiring some of our fashionista friends out…

It’s All Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #192
I have my last tee shirt from Bellelily to share just in time for some Halloween fun! Except the shirt has sold out now! Boo. But Bellelily has a huge inventory of some of the cutest statement tees I have seen in a long while. If Halloween isn’t really your thing, check out what they have for Thanksgiving and Christmas and every other holiday that may inspire you. Disclaimer: This tee shirt was provided to me for purposes of this blog post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s not Halloween quite yet and I have every intention of…

The Stylish Monday Sweater Edit | October Link Up
I am back for the second time with the fabulous ladies of Stylish Monday. Stylish Monday is a monthly series published in collaboration with a group of international fashion and lifestyle bloggers. It is another opportunity to be creative with our personal style as we join together each month with a style prompt or theme. The style prompt for October was Sweater Edit. Being a writer and taking things literally, I had to consider the word edit before proceeding. Edit means simply to correct or change. So how does that apply to sweaters in October? I guess this is where we get creative. Not only in our sartorial interpretations of personal…

Am I Too Old for a Nose Ring?
I did a thing last week. I got my nose pierced. Well, not actually pierced, but reopened I guess. But let me share the story. Back in 1992, when I was an 18 year senior in high school, my friend pierced my nose with a piercing gun. OMG. It was the most ridiculous thing ever. The gun got stuck in my nostril, my eyes were watering everywhere, and it hurt like hell. But I was proud as pie to have my first body piercing (other than my earlobes). Until I went home with my new facial adornment. My parents freaked out on me and adamantly insisted that the ring be…

A Fashion History of Camouflage, 7 Ways to Wear It & Link Up On the Edge #214
Camouflage is one of those prints that people either seem to love or hate. I have always been a huge fan of this print in any style or color although I really do favor traditional military camouflage prints in the expected color palettes. Camouflage prints are fairly new in the textile world. The print itself was designed in the 20th century to help military personnel be less visible when fighting enemy forces. *Fun Fact #1: The word “camouflage” is derived from a French expression meaning “puffing smoke”. It “refers to a process of evading visual detection through some combination of blend-in coloration, cryptic patterning, and blurring of the silhouette.” (Source)…

Thankful Thursday: How To Share the Love this Thanksgiving
I think it is fair to assume that this Thanksgiving will look much different from any others in our lifetime. Nobody really knows what the world will look a month from now, but I am sure many of us are looking forward to Thanksgiving on November 26 with eagerness and excitement. The entire holiday season is reason for cheer and celebration, but that does not mean we you should forget or ignore what a trying year it has been for everyone worldwide. Because this year has been so crazy, one focus for Thanksgiving 2020 should be sharing the love with others who may need it. You may be wondering where…

What to Wear to a Fall Wedding & Link Up
My dear friend Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood recently invited a lovely group of bloggers to join her for a collaboration featuring What to Wear to a Fall Wedding. Fall has always been my favorite season for just about everything including weddings. But all weddings and other celebrations look so very different this year compared to what we know. Whether it is a super small gathering or a ceremony shared through Zoom, if you have been invited to a wedding this fall, you still want to dress your best to celebrate this momentous occasion in the lives of your friends or family members. I have not been invited to any…

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude with Bellelily & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #191
As soon as October rolls around, I feel like we have to abruptly shift our mindsets into holiday mode. And I have to be honest, I hate holiday mode. I don’t like the commercialism. I don’t like the pressure to buy more. I don’t enjoy expectations placed on my time for the onslaught of celebrations and gatherings. And as much as I enjoy giving gifts to people, I really don’t like to be forced to choose something for the mere sake of giving a gift on a randomly designated day of the year, especially one that has drifted so far away from its original meaning. To be blunt, I really…
