Adventures in Thrifting Part 13: Vintage Top for a Fall Date Night Outfit & Link Up On the Edge #270
A few weeks ago, we had a date night planned on a random Wednesday evening. It was to be the husband, the boyfriend, and me with dinner, drinks, and conversation on the date night menu. Thanks to our faithful and beloved BFF who generously agreed to sit and play video games with the boys all night, we were able to get this date night scheduled. But as life often does, it interfered with our date night plans when boyfriend couldn’t make it. So Jeff and I headed out alone, taking full advantage of a BFF who agrees to babysit! We had a fabulous dinner at a new-ish restaurant in town,…

Little Red Riding Hoodless & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #248
I have always loved the drama of a red cape. There is something special, powerful, nostalgic, mysterious, innocent yet devious, sexy, and magical about a garment of this sort. A red cape can conjure up visions of magicians, vampires, superheroes, royals, or a young girl being stalked by a wolf in the woods. You know who I mean, of course, Little Red Riding Hood from the 17th century fairy tale. Have you ever read the original versions of some of our most beloved fairy tales? Many of them are very dark and incredibly creepy and super morbid, originally drafted in order to educate children through a perspective of fear. But…

Faux Real Looks in Leather and Suede | November Stylish Monday Link Up
We live in a world that always reminds us to be genuine and authentic, but there is a price to pay for true authenticity. It’s hard work to maintain cohesion between our true selves and the selves that we present outwardly to the world. Most of us hide huge portions of ourselves from the judging eyes of society, always afraid that if our true selves were found out we might be criticized or even disliked. While there is no required financial investment for living a true and authentic existence, the price is paid in a heightened state of introspection and self work to ensure that what you see is really…

Fetishes + What to Wear on a Role Play Date & Link Up On the Edge #269
Since I have been sharing my sexy adventures lately and receiving some wonderfully positive and entertaining feedback, I figured I would just keep on going with this topic for today. But before we get to the business of what is a role play date and what to wear to one, I want to briefly discuss fetishes. I have long been fascinated by sexual fetishes. So fascinated, in fact, that I wrote my Honors Philosophy thesis on the topic of voyeurism back in 1995. I wanted to know why people have fetishes, what makes certain things become a sexual fetish, is it a natural human response to some trigger to have…

What to Wear on a Girl Date: Styling My New White Cowgirl Boots
A few weeks ago I went on a girl date. My very first girl date actually. I have long had an interest in dating women but fear of judgment and fear of women prevented me from moving forward into this area of our open polyamorous lifestyle. A topic that routinely surfaces in my counseling sessions is my fears. Through the work I do in these sessions and on my own, I have finally come to a place where I no longer fear the judgments of others. People have been judging me for my entire life and I am still here living my truth as loudly and visibly I can. It…

Book Review: The Raven Witch Saga by SG Turner & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #247
I might be the slowest reader on the planet, but I finally buried my face in this amazingly whimsical and captivating tale of fantastical creatures who are navigating their way through a very scary magical world that exists right in the midst of the land of the humans they are trying to protect. The Raven Witch Saga is a three book series written by none other than my dear friend Suzy Turner of The Grey Brunette. Some of you may already know Suzy for her creatively eclectic personal style. She makes an appearance on my blog each month as a member of The Fab 40’s and she never fails to…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Maxi Skirts or Dresses
We had so much fun last month with all of the creative Halloween costumes that were shared, but now it’s time to get back to the basics. This month’s theme for The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book should be easy enough to prompt lots of participation. If you wear long skirts or dresses, then won’t you send us a photo or two to be featured in a big round up of fabulous maxi styles! I have always thought of myself as a style chameleon of sorts as my personal fashion choices never fit neatly into one style genre. There really aren’t very many things in fashion that I don’t love and maxi…

What Would Nancy Wear? & Link Up On the Edge #268
Back in the beginning of September, I had written a guest style post for my dear friend Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style while she was on holiday. I wanted to pay homage to my sweet friend and so during my outfit creation process I kept asking myself the question, “What Would Nancy Wear?” and that quickly became the post title for her blog. In that post, I shared the story of how Nancy and I first became acquainted in the world of blogging, how we began our multiple collaboration projects, and how we have developed a very strong and meaningful friendship despite the 3,600 mile (5,800 km) distance between us.…

The Magnificent 8 in Versatile Vest Styles
Vests have a been a garment that have sort of confused me for my most of my life. However, I have always had a few in my closet dating back to early childhood when I proudly donned a black zipper hoodie layered beneath a denim vest in perfect Chachi Arcola style. I might have even tied a red bandana around my thigh back in those days! I also recall a favorite outfit of mine from elementary school that consisted of olive green corduroy kickers with matching fair aisle socks that pulled up to my knees and were snuggly secured by the elastic band of the knickers just below my kneecaps.…
