The Holiday Series 2018-Thanksgiving Outfit Inspiration & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #97

This is not a sponsored post.

Ada is at it again with a huge blogger collaboration series this year! Of course, I am always ready to join her and this fabulous line up of amazing blogger friends. Today, there are 13 of us bringing you lots of outfit inspiration just in time for Thanksgiving Day. Get cozy, get comfortable, get warm, and eat all the yummy food!

For my outfit, I chose my super comfortable, extra stretchy skinny boyfriend jeans from Torrid layered up with a plain gray long sleeve tee shirt and a very old, but very cozy purple poncho sweater. And to keep some edge with my casual style, I added these fun gray and purple floral embroidered booties from JustFab.

Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday of the year! Yes, ahead of Christmas and New Year’s and even my birthday. There’s just something so romantic about the colorful leaves, the crisp air, and the cooler weather. I love a warm fire in the fireplace, football on the television, and hot apple cider in my glass, all snuggled up with my loved ones for an afternoon and evening of great food and even greater company.

Traditionally, I also love to go on a nice long walk outside on Thanksgiving Day to see the beautiful fall foliage and breathe in the fresh air as well as to burn off some calories from the overindulgence of pumpkin pie and egg nog. So some cold weather gear is necessary with my Thanksgiving Day outfit. I went with my gray flannel jacket that is from Old Navy a few years ago and this cute purple knitted headband that I have had forever.

But alas, I will be spending this Thanksgiving Day alone. Since I started working all these retail jobs this year, I am obligated to work Thanksgiving night and all day Black Friday as well as the rest of the crazy shopping weekend. I am sending my family to Pennsylvania to enjoy the holidays together since I won’t be home much anyway.

But in all honesty, I don’t really mind this time around as I am quite tired and adding travel to the mix sounds just exhausting to me right now. I have to report for work at Charlotte Russe for an 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. shift on Thanksgiving night. So my plans for the day include ordering Chinese food and some girly movies and snuggling up on my couch for the day. I will probably sneak a nap in as well so I am rested and ready for the Black Friday shopping craze! And when my paycheck comes in, I will be quite thankful!

So let the holiday insanity begin! But remember to keep your calm and your patience and don’t get too caught up in all the hype! I wish you all a very blessed and delicious Thanksgiving! Be sure to check out all the other gorgeous Thanksgiving outfits below and keep scrolling for your featured favorites and the link up.

The Holiday Series 2018

CHERYL Cheryl Shops: Happy Thanksgiving, Ada! I am happy to share that after YEARS of looking for the perfect black jumpsuit, I finally found it. It’s the ideal thing to wear for Thanksgiving because it’s comfy but looks really polished too. The waist on this one is actually on the loose side, but there’s a front tie to add a little definition (and to cover up my food baby). I added a denim jacket, because it’s still on the warm side here in California, and a cheetah clutch and metallic red boots for a little pop of festive fun.”
DEBBIE Fashion Fairy Dust “I’m all about comfort every day, but it’s even more important on Thanksgiving when eating is the main event! A loose flowy midi or maxi dress like this one is perfect for the occasion. Not only will you look pretty and put-together, but you’ll also have room for that extra slice of pie…”
ADA Elegance and Mommyhood “Happy Thanksgiving Ladies! Thanksgiving isn’t very huge in my family since my parents work that day =( but I still like to look nice and comfortable since we will be having dinner together. I chose this festive+warm wool sweater with stone embellishments, my most comfortable pair of jeans (they are the Absolution by Nordstrom), a pair of heeled suede booties and this fun corduroy leopard newsboy cap I recently thrifted!”
LINDA A Labour of Life Thanksgiving and Turkey they just seem to go together. Wearing a fun sweater I found at H+M a few years ago that screams the holidays. I love to get dressed up but comfort as well, so I paired the sweater with a fun flannel from old navy and my mustard pixie pants. A little dressy but a whole lot of comfort.”
MICHELLE Michelle’s Pa(i)ge “I got this dress in my latest Stitch Fix and wasn’t so sure about it however when I tried it on, it was so much cuter than I had expected! It’s been the perfect dress for all of my fall parties and I plan to wear it to a Thanksgiving gathering too!”
AMBER Avec Amber “My ideal Thanksgiving is all about comfort: both comfort food and comfy clothes! I always celebrate Thanksgiving with my family, and this casual outfit is perfect for hanging out, playing games, and eating way too much food!”
SHELBEE Shelbee on the Edge “I chose a pair of stretchy skinny jeans and an oversized poncho for Thanksgiving day.  It is easy, comfortable, cozy, and looks put together while hiding the food baby!  I added these fun floral booties as a little extra.  I have to work at the mall Thanksgiving night, so this outfit would transition perfectly for work, but I will probably change the boots to some cute sneakers since it will be a long late night shift on my feet!  May you all enjoy your Thanksgiving whether it be at home or at work!”
ROXANNE Glass of Glam “I have a tradition of watching the Macy’s parade with my family on Thanksgiving morning. A cozy, festive sweater and jeans is my favorite outfit for a day of chilling out with my loved ones.”
CHRISSY Granola and Grace “From “thankful” tees to all the colors of fall, my fashion tastes change over the years. However there’s always one common theme to all my Thanksgiving outfits: comfort. I want to be comfortable! Even when I take small portions of each food choice, it adds up to a lot so an an expandable waistline is a must. 😉
LAURA I Do deClaire “This year we are actually hosting Thanksgiving in our new home! In the past while our meal is a bit more formal with china and tablecloths and such, we dress pretty casually. So I paired my favorite jeans with a lightweight poncho I recently received. It’s comfortable for running around and getting things ready beforehand and hiding turkey belly, but I still feel put together, too!”
MONICA Jersey Girl, Texan Heart “Hey y’all!  First of all thank you to Ada for letting me be part of this Thanksgiving collab.  I like to be comfy on Thanksgiving because I like to eat, and when I have a food baby, I want it to be hidden haha!”
JENNIE A Pocketful of Polka Dots “When it comes to Thanksgiving I enjoy wearing comfortable layers that are still classic and put together. Leopard and chambray are a favorite combination of mine and paired with cognac riding boots I am sure to get through the day with stylish ease.”
CHRISTINE Bon and Chic Style “For Thanksgiving, I’ll be wearing this khaki metallic pleated skirt and Karl Lagerfeld sweatshirt, paired with my new suede hiking boots and grey coat. I’m loving this casual boho chic combination lately.  It’s super comfortable and so effortless chic.”

Oh Shelbee, I am sorry you have to work and will be alone for Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving but I really don’t like that the stores are open and all the craziness begins for that very reason. Your plans sound relaxing and I know you will make the best of the day and it will be relaxing for you. The calm before the storm! I’ll be thinking of you, bless your heart.
Okay this outfit – terrific! I love the booties – so unique and that headband is so cute on you!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! I really am not minding so much this year. I think because I am kind of over all the holiday hype for everything anyway. I am going to embrace the quiet of my home and rest all day then get through the crazy weekend with a bounce in my step and a smile on my face and maintain my positive attitude! I hope you have a fabulous week, my friend, and a very happy Thanksgiving!

I know that you’re not looking for sympathy, but that sucks my friend. I personally have been totally opposed to the stores starting the sales on Thanksgiving night since they started doing it for that very reason. I never shop Black Friday weekend because it’s too crazy, but even if I did I wouldn’t shop Thursday on principle alone. It sounds like you’re making the best of the day though. I do love this look…the poncho/sweater is so pretty! xo

Thanks so much, Debbie! No, I definitely am not looking for sympathy. And I also am opposed to the Thanksgiving night store openings, but yet there are so many people who are ready to start shopping then and these money hungry retailers are not going to miss out on that opportunity! It is silly really and I am so totally over all the holiday hype. But it’s the world we live in and the industry I work in, unfortunately. But I am definitely all about boycotting all sorts of ridiculous things in this world! So I support your not shopping on Thanksgiving!

Thanks so much, Kathrine! I will remain calm and collected even in the face of crazy holiday shoppers! By the way, your post will be featured on Thursday in the Your Own Twist Link Up! So be sure to stop by and join the party again!

Hey Shelbee! I will be thinking of you over Thanksgiving break, but as hard as that may be, I can see how you may welcome some quiet at home. Sometimes we just need silence. And I love your outfit…the purple is calling to me. I keep wanting that coziness and then I remember that I live in Florida. lol!!! You look adorable as always!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Chrissy! I am definitely welcoming the silence for a few days. As much as I will miss my family, it will be nice to come after a long day at work and not hear, “Mom. Mom. Mommy. Mama. Mother. Mom. Momma. Mom. Mom. Mommy. Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom. Mommy. Momma. Mama. Mom. Mom.” as soon as I walk in the door! So I will be embracing all the solitude with so much thankfulness on Thanksgiving Day! And the kids will love spending time with their grandparents and cousins. They won’t even notice my absence. In the meantime, I hope you find a way to add some coziness into your warm weather wardrobe!

Have a great week, my friend!

You always have the best attitude about things! I really oppose stores keeping their teams away from family on Thanksgiving. Hope that you able to enjoy part of the day before you go to work! Love the color of your poncho!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Jill! I am completely opposed to retailers being open on Thanksgiving as well. But if I boycott as an employee, I will lose my job! Ha. Actually, they require every single employee to work either Thursday or Friday, no exceptions. It is sort of like involuntary servitude. But I will not work retail forever, it is simply a stopover for me right now. And I do love my jobs for the most part. So no negative complaining from me. No way! I am the one who has to keep spirits positive because most people are unable to! Have a fantastic week, my friend.

Dearest Shelbee: You are always so kind and thoughtful and truly Spread the Kindness everywhere and every day, like you did today with this post. Thank you so much for your sweet words about me. I appreciate your kindness and friendship so very much. I also wish the holiday craze doesn’t go overboard with your schedule and your sanity because retail at this time of year is so crazy. I hate that most stores are open between 4 and 6 on Thanksgiving evening. Insensitive to the employees.

And as I mentioned earlier, I absolutely love this outfit you wore and I totally thought that was a knit cap instead of a headband. I just love it. Also your boots and poncho are great and so you!! You are the queen of layering after all!! I will email you in a little bit about Thursday and all these other “crazy ideas” I have in my mind. Once again thank you for being a part of this and for being a force to be reckoned with – that is a compliment – in this crazy blogging world!!

Love you friend. Sending this from a snowy morning 💜💖 Ada.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ada, thanks so much again for all you do as well! You rock, my friend! It is raining here right now but turning to snow later in the day with snow forecasted for like the next 10 days! Winter is here! Stay tuned for lots of snowy photo shoots from me (and from you as well, I’m sure). I am heading off to work soon so I apologize if I don’t respond to emails in a timely manner. The rest of this week is insane for me with obligations after work every day and then traveling this weekend.

I am not terribly stylish although I had a student tell me once that she liked my style! I have no posts on clothing but I do have a Fun and Funky Clothing on my Pinterest and I’ll be happy to share some pins there for you all. <3 I do have a tablesetting post {or the beginning thereof} to share so if that's okay I'll link on. 🙂 My beauty is in tables…

Happy fall and stay warm everyone,
    Barb 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Barb, please do share your table setting post! I could definitely use some inspiration in that regard! I am great at food presentation on the plates but I don’t have any idea how to make a table look festive! My mother-in-law, however, rocks at that! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing. Have a fantastic day!

    Shelbee,

    I love your Thanksgiving outfit!
I wish stores would be closed for all the holidays like they used to be.
Everyone is looking for a sale but it takes away from the holiday season.

    Hugs,
    Robin

You’re so sweet to send your family on for their family time at Thanksgiving. I hope you’ll enjoy some quiet while getting ready to work. This outfit looks exactly like something I’d wear…I actually have an very similar gray poncho. Cutie! Have a great day! XO

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

Just love this outfit, the colors are so pretty on you and I love the fit for all of the food we enjoy on Thanksgiving! 🙂 I used to work on a lot of holidays when I worked at Walgreens in their cosmetics department in my 20’s!! It WAS tough and that was before I even had kids! I will be thinking about you and maybe when you did get home, enjoy some of the quiet time (that us moms don’t often get!) and indulge a little in something that makes you happy!

Hi there, Shelbee! You look fabulous! Loving your outfit to pieces, but then I always do. All of the linkup ladies also look terrific, but I gotta tell you, if I walked in looking that put together, my family and friends would faint! We are more casual around Thanksgiving, and I can’t wear any heel at all, because they clack on the hard wood floors, and running from kitchen to dining room stirs up such a clatter, everyone springs up to see what is the matter!!!
Ho, Ho, Ho, how I do amuse myself!
Either way, I don’t wanna be a clacker, unless I get to meet Meryl Streep.

Sorry you have to work Thanksgiving night, but glad you will have peace and quiet. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for that very reason. I believe we should have another Thanksgiving after Christmas, just to thank God all the hubbub is over! I generally buy a turkey after Thanksgiving when the prices go down, and do another Thanksgiving dinner on a January weekend, when it is nice and peaceful.

You won’t catch me shopping (except maybe online) on Thanksgiving or Black Friday. Those people are nuts!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ha! Susan, you amuse me as well! Well, you should stick with your normal casual attire then as you wouldn’t want to shock anyone into choking on a turkey leg! I hope you have a fantastic holiday and I will be sure to share any stories of crazy Black Friday shoppers. I’m sure there will be many!

      xoxo

This entire outfit is so cute and comfy. Ponchos not only keep you warm but in my opinion, is a wardrobe essential! The color of yours is beautiful and love the matching hat. That’s a bummer that you have to work on Thanksgiving and Black Friday Shelbee. My family doesn’t really celebrate Thanksgiving and it’s been tough to plan anything because family members have different motives. So I have been torn about Thanksgiving or any other holidays because I have a little one. Super sigh…Happy Tuesday!

    Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Maureen! You should just have a nice little quiet Thanksgiving at home with your husband and your son. Make a new tradition! Or invite friends over who maybe don’t have family nearby! That’s always fun! I hope you figure out something special and have a fantastic week, too!

I am so sorry that you have to work on Thanksgiving. That totally sucks. I feel bad for you. You look all ready for the day. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Anna! Oh, bars get super busy on holidays like Christmas with sad, lonely, depressed folks trying to drown it all out. I hunk Christmas Eve and Christmas night are probably two of their busiest nights. I hope your daughter at least makes lots of tips that night! Have a great week!

  • Liz Klebba

Oh, Shelbee! In spite of the (God-willing) extra pay you will get for coming in Thanksgiving, I wish you weren’t working on the big day. I don’t think anyone should be (except emergency personnel). It makes me sad that the day has become a fuel-up for the Friday shopping orgy. I won’t shop on Friday. Not even on-line. I want to live in the holiday moment. I may end up working at my computer, but I refuse to feed the beast. (Hypocritical for a style blogger? Not if you know me!)

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Liz, thanks so much! It definitely has turned into a beast of epic proportions in recent years, hasn’t it? I never shop Thanksgiving weekend either. It’s just too crazy! I kind of miss the days when retailers shut down on Sunday’s as well as holidays! It was such a simpler, more peaceful time. And nope, no extra pay for working holidays. Just threats that employment will be terminated if one refuses to work the holiday! Bah. Humbug. It’s all good though. I’m not complaining. And I will just smile through it and collect my paycheck.

Happy early Thanksgiving, Shelbee! I’m sorry you have to work, but I hope you’ll get a nice big paycheck. I used to work at Contempo Casuals (remember that store?!) and I kind of loved working Black Friday (and the entire holiday season) because people were shopping up a storm and I’d always hit my bonus. Also, helping people pick out gifts is a way to spread the kindness!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Cheryl, thank you so very much! Yeah, I am kind of looking forward to working. I think it will be fun to be the only one who is keeping my cool while everyone else is losing their minds over silly stuff! Haha. I do not remember that store Contempo Casuals, but now I am going to hit Wikipedia to find out more! I love reading about the history of retailers and when and why they went under. It seriously fascinates me.

I love your purple poncho ensemble Shelbee, looks so cozy and warm. Thanksgiving is also my favorite holiday and my favorite time of year. I’m sorry you have to work on your favorite holiday, but it sounds like you are going to have some much needed “you” time. Sometimes we just get weary as a mom, so many people depending on us. Enjoy your time alone. I would love a few days alone in my house!! XO

Cherie, thank you so very much! This outfit totally reminded me of the outfit you had styled for that very first Chico’s meet up in NYC! I am so looking forward to the selfish alone time coming my way next week…even if I have to work on the holiday. But it is the working on the holiday that is allowing me the alone time…so it is a blessing in disguise really!

Kelly, thank you so much! I am actually not too bothered about working on Thanksgiving as it is giving me an entire week off from kids just because I have to work on that one day! But I do hope that you have the holiday off!

Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving lady. Sounds like you have it all planned out to re-energize and who doesn’t love a paycheck just in time for black Friday. Love this poncho and the matching toque outfit. There is just something about a poncho that makes me feel on trend on the outside but totally cozy on the inside.
