The Cloudy Day & Link Up On the Edge #309
Last weekend, we went on a little road trip to Pennsylvania to deliver a very special graduation gift to a very special young woman. Her name is Kallyse and I was the teacher’s aide in her preschool class when she was 4 years old. I quickly developed a very special bond with this incredibly witty and smart, kind and beautiful young girl. After that one year in her preschool class, I accepted a job somewhere else and the classroom teacher, Scott, had only been filling in for that year while the permanent teacher was on maternity leave. But for that one year, Scott, a young man in his first teaching…

Thrifty Finds & Your Own Twist Link Up #47
I know I talk frequently about the benefits of thrift shopping. But I can’t help myself. It has been a lifelong passion of mine and I seem to grow even more devoted to my focus on a preloved wardrobe with each passing year. I do still buy new clothing at retail prices because I have an addiction and I struggle to resist all the cute new things that are released into the fashion market every season. At this point in my life, I certainly have enough clothing in my wardrobe to never need to buy anything new ever again. So recently I have been only indulging my shopping whims if…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Beachwear/Resort Wear & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #288
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye. The theme for August is Beachwear or Resort Wear.…

The Thrifty Six in Jumpsuits
It was Grace’s turn to choose a style theme for August’s thrifty collaboration where 6 international fashion lovers join together to show you how to be stylish on a budget while also doing something good for our planet. Tossed away clothing drastically contributes to our landfill problem while the overproduction of clothing required to sustain our throw-away culture dramatically impacts our climate change issue. Too many clothes, and too many new clothes in particular, are a real problem. I am just as bad as any other consumer who has fallen prey to the fast fashion monsters. It is an addiction that retailers tapped into a few generations back and they…

A Visit to John Brown Farm & Link Up On the Edge #308
During our recent family weekend trip to Burlington, Vermont, and Lake Placid, New York, we visited John Brown Farm in Lake Placid before heading to Olympic Stadium. I was wholly unfamiliar with John Brown before stumbling upon his farm on the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation website when I was searching for things to do and see in Lake Placid. I am so glad that I found it because it was a powerful and moving educational experience for all of us. John Brown was an American abolitionist born on May 9, 1800, in Torrington, Connecticut, the fourth of eight children of Owen Brown and Ruth Mills, a…

How to Rediscover Yourself This Summer
Whether you are hopeful for a promotion at work or navigating problems in your personal life, it is easy to lose yourself in the chaos of daily life. However, self-discovery is always a journey worth embarking on especially when the overwhelm of life feels like it’s starting to crack you. After all, self-discovery can: With that in mind, here are four tips to help you rediscover yourself before the summer ends. 1. Find new ways to express yourself. Self-expression and self-discovery often go hand in hand. As a result, you should always be on the lookout for ways in which you can better express yourself. For example, many people find…

10 on the 10th: August 2022-Good Sports!
10 on the 10th is a monthly series hosted by Marsha of Marsha in the Middle, Leslie of Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After, and Gail of Is This Mutton? They present us with 10 questions about a common theme and give their answers in an effort to share more information about themselves. Anyone is invited to join and answer the questions yourselves. It is a really fun way to share interesting information about ourselves that we may not have otherwise thought to share. And it is a great way to start new conversations and make meaningful connections with new people. I usually don’t even look at the 10 questions until the…

Last weekend we took a family day trip to Burlington, Vermont, and we stopped in Lake Placid, New York, on the way home to visit Olympic Stadium, the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games. We also explored the shops near the stadium and visited John Brown Farm, which was a very powerful experience that I will share in a later post. This post is dedicated to the joy of friendly competition that the Olympic Games inspire. But first, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast in our hotel in Plattsburgh, New York. Then we visited John Brown Farm first as it was on the way to Olympic Stadium. You…
