Historic Church Tour in Clayton, New York & Link Up On the Edge #315
A few weeks ago, I mentioned in my travel inspired Thrifty Six post that we went on a historic church walking tour in Clayton, New York, to celebrate the town’s sesquicentennial. I had intended to share this post a few weeks ago, but you know how life can intervene and quickly change our plans and intentions. In the three and a half weeks since sharing my thrifty travel outfit that I wore for this walking tour, I had three Style Imitating Art posts, two Songful Style posts, one Good Buy/Good-Bye Book post, a room makeover post, a paid post about toys to boost kids’ imaginations, my Reiki certification announcement, and…

5 Essential Toys to Promote Children’s Imagination
Play and creativity are hugely important in the development of children especially during their younger years. The early years of childhood are the prime time when the human brain can most efficiently gather and process large quantities of data which is instrumental in childhood learning and growth. Children who are raised with a focus on the freedom to express themselves, discover their own ideas, and foster personal creativity generally find more fulfillment in their adult lives regardless of which path they choose in life. Although every child’s physiology will impact their inclination towards specific interests and their individual temperament, children can still be guided to enjoy creative pursuits with the…

Whether you have seen them live or just love listening to certain music, why not take this opportunity to share your favorite tee shirts that represent your favorite music. Or maybe you have a band tee that you are ready to say good-bye to, you can share that, too! What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book? It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month.…

It’s Official! I Am a Certified Reiki Level II Practitioner & Link Up On the Edge #314
I had the most extraordinary weekend two weeks ago and I have been so excited to share it with you all. But then I caught the Back-to-School Crud and skipped my post last Friday altogether, pushing this one out another week. I did allude to it earlier this week though. You may have caught the Reiki reference in my crud poem… “...I used yoga and Reiki And resorted to prayer. No matter what I did The crud still made its way here..." It was a very intentional reference and I did use this cruddy sickness as an opportunity to practice my newly learned Reiki healing techniques on myself. While my…

The Back-to-School Crud & My Final Summer Outfit
Happy Hump Day, or in my case, Happy Crud Day! Actually, there isn’t all that much happy about the current crud that is circulating through the germ factories that we call schools. It started last week with Ralph and he missed three consecutive days of school. Then it caught up to me and I haven’t really left the comfort of my couch in five days. And now it got Archie so he has been home for two days, coughing and aching and sleeping. I have managed to do only the bare minimum like cooking and laundry and getting whichever kid is healthy off to school in the mornings. I even…

Songful Style | “Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift & #SpreadTheKindness Link Party #294
Yesterday, we shared our colorful outfits inspired by “Over the Rainbow” by Hawaiian musician, singer, songwriter, and sovereignty activist Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, which means today I overload you with more melodic inspiration for our next Songful Style challenge. It was Suzy’s turn to choose a song to inspire our looks for October 31, 2022, and she picked “Look What You Made Me Do” by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift because the official music video has a Halloween element to it and is visually beautiful with so much fabulous sartorial inspiration. About Songful Style Songful Style is an ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha…

This month’s song, “Over the Rainbow” by Hawaiian musician, singer, songwriter, and sovereignty activist Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, was chosen by Marsha to inspire our outfits. You can read more here about the history of this classic song, the details of this fascinating artist, and how he gave new life to an old tune making it one the most recognizable songs in commercials, television shows, and movies. About Songful Style Songful Style is a new ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee…

“Still Life with Nuts, Candy and Flowers” by Clara Peeters | Style Imitating Art
Before I get going on the details of the next artwork chosen for Style Imitating Art, I want to apologize for skipping my Friday Link Up On the Edge post. We are just three weeks into the school year and my kids have already brought “the crud” home and then they generously shared it with me. I had one kid home sick for one day, the other was home for three days, and once I got them both back to school on Friday, the crud had managed to completely knock me on my ass. Head and chest congestion with muscle and joint pain as well as extreme lethargy has been…

Photowall for an Out of This World Room Makeover & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #293
I am so excited to share the progress of my recent room makeover with you all! This room makeover has been in the works since May when Photowall reached out to me with a collaboration opportunity. But in May, I knew that we had a busy summer schedule that included lots of events and mini vacations almost every other weekend so I couldn’t commit to such a labor intensive project at the time. I decided there was no harm in asking the kind folks at Photowall if this was an initiative that could wait until September when I was already planning to turn Ralph’s bedroom into a game room and…
