Why Do Families Choose Teen Residential Treatment in Washington State?
Every parent hopes their teenager will find their way through difficult years with minimal struggle. But some teens face challenges that go far beyond typical adolescent turbulence. Mental health disorders, substance use, trauma, and behavioral crises can push a family to a point where outpatient care simply is not enough. At that crossroads, many families in the Pacific Northwest begin exploring teen residential treatment. Understanding what this level of care actually offers, and why so many families actively pursue it, can help parents make a more confident, well-informed choice for their child. Fifteen! How Did We Get Here So Fast? & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #805
Fifteen years ago today, we welcomed our first born into the world. When the nurse held him in front of my face for the first time, all I could say was, “It is so nice to meet you, little human.” And what an amazing little human he was. Now he has grown into an amazing tall human who makes me so proud every single day. He came into the world early. Five weeks early to be exact. I was not ready, but he was. He seems to always be ready. Without hesitation and with strong convictions, he strides through life with maturity, kindness, confidence, intelligence, steadiness, determination, and a strength…

Why a Quality Case Is the Most Important Accessory for Any New Mobile Device
You just spent a lot of money on a new phone. The second most important purchase you make shouldn’t be a streaming subscription or a pair of wireless earbuds. It should be a phone case. Today’s smartphones are feats of engineering covered in materials that have no room for any errors. The front is made of glass, the back is also possibly made of glass, and the two sides are connected by polished metal rails. It is an extraordinary piece of equipment that is quite challenging to handle. And that’s precisely why protection is non-negotiable. The glass problem nobody talks about at checkout. Phone makers have devoted years to the…

Um…13? Say What?
My last born child is 13 today. How? Just how? Time truly does fly by in the blink of an eye. Happy Birthday, Ralph! He is smart and funny, gifted in academics, athletics, and music, and stubborn as a mule. He challenges me in many ways but makes me proud in many more. He came into the world screeching like a pterodactyl and he is still making all kinds of noise. Sometimes it’s lively piano music and sometimes it more resembles the screech of a banshee, but as long as he’s making noise I know he is healthy and happy! I went digging through old Facebook photos to create a…

Homecoming, Halloween, Home Decor & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #781
For today’s post, I am just sharing some recent goings-on in my household and with my family. A few weeks before Halloween, Archie, who is now a freshman in high school (how in the world did that happen so quickly?), attended his first Homecoming dance. He and his friend went together and they just looked so darn handsome that it brought tears to my eyes! At my request, I also got a water fountain photo of Archie and his BFF who just happens to be the literal girl next door and one of my favorite humans on earth! Halloween followed Homecoming and we went big this year with homemade costumes…

School’s Out for Summer & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #763
It has been a very busy end of school season with last Thursday marking the final day for my kids. In September, Ralph will be moving up to 7th grade in the middle school and Archie will be heading off to 9th grade in the high school. The week before school was out for summer, we attended the Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival in Pennsylvania. After 3 days of rural camping, we came home dirty and exhausted but my kids still managed to push through that final week of school like superstars. Just before the festival, we helped Ralph complete a giant diorama for his final ELA project. He recreated…

Kicking Off Birthday Season in Braces & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #697
On Wednesday night, I said good night to a 10 year old. Yesterday, I said good morning to an 11 year old. Today, I am wondering how the years fly by so quickly when the days can feel exponentially long. Last Friday, we took both kids to the orthodontist to begin their respective treatments just in time for birthday season. Archie opted for Invisalign and is doing remarkably well with them. Ralph had some crowding issues that were preventing two adult teeth from coming in so he now has an expander and brackets with no wires. We have to keep expanding his little mouth until mid-April and then he returns…
