The Magnificent 8 Restyled
For this quarterly installation of our ageless style challenge, Jodie suggested that we restyle something that we have worn previously for this Magnificent 8 collaboration. I was thrilled with this idea because I had already restyled something and had the photographs to prove it. As it happens, when I took outfit photos for our Simply Red challenge last October, I had restyled the shirt, boots, and jewelry from that outfit with the kimono robe that I had styled the same day for a Style Imitating Art challenge. After photographing these two outfits that were created for those specific challenges, I decided to change into my comfies for the day. My…

DIY Corduroy Wrap & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #728
Happy Friday, y’all! Today I am sharing a brown corduroy wrap that I made for myself last summer. I actually already shared this piece for a thrifty style challenge last August when I first made it. I found the lightweight brown corduroy fabric on the clearance shelf at JOANN. I was drawn to the tribal symbols and the little embroidered figures of men on horses, but I also considered that the print might not be very respectful to indigenous peoples. Probably the reason the fabric was on sale. But it was there, super inexpensive, wanting me to buy it because I adore all things that represent the indigenous tribes of…

The Thrifty Six in Animal Prints*
Welcome to the October edition of The Thrifty Six! We are a group of international fashion lovers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features preloved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling preloved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here not only to inspire you to shop second hand but to also get creative in your closets. It was Nancy’s turn to choose our style theme…

Return of the Frankenstein Dress & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #727
Do you remember the Frankenstein dresses that I made last summer? Archie coined the term “Frankenstein dress” because I take parts of other garments and combine them to make a new and different garment. Similar to the way that Dr. Frankenstein took parts from other bodies and put them together to create his monster. This is another Frankenstein dress from last summer’s projects. I still have another one that I haven’t even worn yet. For this particular upcycle project, I used this graphic tee shirt from four years ago and a brown knit maxi skirt that I have had forever. I don’t think I have ever successfully styled this skirt…

Weekend Date in Troy, New York & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #724
The in-laws were visiting last week to attend Archie’s football game and we took full advantage of their stay by booking a weekend getaway in Troy, New York. Troy is a really quaint town of about 51,000 people located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River in the Capital District of New York State. It is approximately 140 miles southeast from where we live and took 3 hours to drive there. We were blessed with beautiful weather for the whole weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our driving time together as much as all the other things we did. Troy, New York, is the home of Samuel Wilson, who is known…
