The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: April 2018-Green

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after a year has passed, we decided to change the series a bit.

You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

Let’s start with my beautiful co-host, Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. She is sharing a Good Buy and a Good-Bye in one outfit for this month’s theme of Green!

“I love a monochrome look and I love green. The jacket is a fantastic buy, I love this one so much! The skirt however…I don’t know, there is something about it I don’t like. I would love your suggestions of how to style it!”

Next up is Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style sharing two different green items.

“I love the color green, yet I certainly don’t have a ton of it in my closet. Serendipitous though because I just purchased this green kimono (influenced by Shelbee) and posted it on Instagram.”

“My other photo is this green shirt that I’ve had for over 8 years at least. It’s one of my favorites because of the color and I remember buying it on sale for $15. The funny thing is the neckline can be pulled down to be off the shoulder, which I never realized until last year when that style was so big!!”

Anne of Spy Girl shared her Good Buy.

“I got this green/blue/black striped bodycon dress in 2012? 2011? I wear it A LOT (and not always with black capri leggings, I swear! It’s a great piece for travel — light, rolls up into a tiny shape, no wrinkles. I now have to wear it backwards, but that’s OK.”

Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag shared two Good Buys.

“The bright green pants are several years old from Gap but I love the fabric they’re made of and the color. Surprisingly they pair well with so many colorful tops!”

“My olive green cargo pants were purchased during last Summer’s #NSale. They are super comfortable and stand in for jeans. I love the look and they are so soft! I’ll be keeping these for a long time!”

Melissa of Sarissa Melissa Photography shared her favorite Good Buy with a very touching story.

“My favorite green outfit. Five years ago I had just moved into an apartment in November so I couldn’t afford to go home for Christmas. I bought this hat at Kinney’s for $2 and wore it when I sang carols at Samaritan Keep with some friends. It turned out to be an amazing Christmas seeing the joy on the seniors faces, especially since some did not have family visiting for the holiday. It was the best Christmas gift. Each year I wear the hat and reflect on the memory.”

Michele of @seechele_styles also shared a Good Buy.

“This green light weight Long Cardi I Thrifted. The brand is Target and was such a great find. It’s so versatile and can be styled for many occasions. I paid $3.99 for it.”

Rosemary of Distinctly Southern Style shared a Good Buy, too.

“Last fall I found an amazing buy at Target. It was an olive green military style jacket and it was right on target for my needs. This jacket is great for layering over T-shirts, tops or dresses. Plus, it’s lightweight enough for Florida temperatures. Best of all it was priced at around $25.00. This was when I first got my jacket and I was grabbing it and adding it to my jeans outfit on an ordinary day as I ran out the door.”

And now my Good Buys…this was hard to decide which green items I wanted to share!  I have so many.  If it’s green, I must have it!

“I am a sucker for all things green. I had a hard time choosing which green things to share for this post. These two dresses are definitely Good Buys and perfect for nearly any occasion when I would wear a dress. The solid one is from Torrid and is so sassy. The floral one is from Dress Barn and is perfect for a Spring wedding or any other dressy occasion. I simply cannot say no to green!”

Thank you all so very much for joining us! We love to see all your photos and the stories behind your purchases! Next month we will do two different posts on each of our blogs, splitting up the photos so you we don’t have identical posts!

We hope to see you all for the May Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. The theme is Leopard Print! If you have any ideas or suggestions for a theme, let us know!

So start searching for those leopard print items that are a Good Buy or Good-Bye! You can email your submissions to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com.

Much love,
