SIA Gallery of Style | Tom and Jenny by Andres Valencia

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The Inspiration Artwork

The Gallery of Style (in random order)

We had very few participants for this round of SIA but the results were still so great. Thanks to all who have joined us! We appreciate you!

Sally of Within a World of My Own

Sally decided to wear green and pink to represent Jenny for this challenge. Then she recruited her cardboard Marx Brothers to stand in for Tom as they were already perfectly dressed for it. I absolutely love this!

Reni of Reni’s Odds and Sods

Reni says she never would have thought of combining this pink sweater with the green skirt normally, but she loved the combination in the end. I love it, too! I think pink and green make a gorgeous combination and I love how these art style challenges push us to try things we may not have otherwise considered.

Terri of MeadowTree Style

Terri was inspired by Tom because she has a lot of black, white, and grey in her winter wardrobe. She added a bit of color with her gorgeous red vintage silk paisley scarf. I adore menswear inspired outfits and I think Terri looks magnificent in this cool look.

Salazar of 50 Shades of Grey

Salazar was also inspired by Tom and created another really fabulous menswear inspired outfit. She was unsure what to do about the bright colors in the painting so she went with some yellows and red which reflect Jenny’s hair and Tom’s lips. And then there is her dancing lady pin as a shoutout to Jenny. Salazar always has the perfect brooches for these art challenges!

14 Shades of Grey
And Me!

I attempted to combine elements from both Tom and Jenny focusing on the more prominent colors in the painting of pink, black, white, and gray. I then added little bits of the accent colors in green and yellow. I feel like the big green bow really ties the whole look to the art inspiration. And I had fun wearing this cheery outfit!

Thanks again to everyone who joined this week’s SIA challenge. I really enjoyed your diverse interpretations!

*If you have submitted a photo and it was not included, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle.

Also be sure to stop back on Monday, December 5, 2022, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose to finish out the year. We will then be taking a short holiday break until January.

Keeping it on the edge,
