Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Winter Coats & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #745
As winter is finally nearing its end in just three weeks, we decided to feature winter coats for this edition of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. So before you put your cold weather coats away for the duration of the warmer seasons, let’s give those coats a big old round of applause for keeping us warm through this very long and cold winter season.
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?
The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two of your Good (or Bad) Buy items that fit the stated theme. We ask that you also provide a short description explaining if the item you are sharing was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to (formerly known as Bad Buys). Nancy and I will both publish a round up post featuring all of the submissions on the 15th of each month.
Remember anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a brief description via email. You do not have to be a blogger to join. You just need a camera and an email address! We will give you the theme for the next month at the conclusion of each post.
Everyone is invited to join us in March to share your favorite (or least favorite) Winter Coats. All you have to do is snap a photo or two and email us with a short description so you can be featured in our Good Buy/Good-Bye Book on March 15, 2025.
As you probably already know, I live in a place that experiences winter temperatures and precipitation (i.e., lake effect snow, regular snow, and freezing rain) for about 8 months of the year. I have lived in this place for nearly 12 years and I have seen snow falling from the sky in every single month of the year except for July and August. They say that we have two seasons here…Winter and July. And that is not far from the truth.
As such, I have accumulated quite an extensive collection of winter outerwear. I really do love a fabulously warm statement-making top layer for venturing out into the wintry abyss. Also, coats are one of my favorite things to search for on thrifting adventures. I have scored some pretty amazing preloved coats for just a few dollars each from the abundant racks in my local thrift stores.
To inspire you to share your favorite (or least favorite) winter coats, here is a sampling of my coats, both thrifted and purchased new.

I am going to stop there because that is a lot of coats already. But I do actually have more. My entire cloffice is stuffed full of them!
If you would like to share your Winter Coats with us, please send your photos and descriptions to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com by the 10th of March so we can put you in the spotlight. You are welcome to send two photos if you’d like to be featured on both blogs.
*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for this series.

That’s a lot of winter coats! How do you have room for them all? Thanks for the party.

It really is too many coats! LOL I have a separate closet that holds my coats, jackets, and blazers. But I do need to clean some out soon. Have a lovely weekend, my friend!

I am so over Winter and ready to be done with coats. However, I live in PA, so I probably have at least another 4-5 weeks until I can go without a Winter coat. I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!

Oh, I miss Pennsylvania winters! They are so much milder than what I get here. I am not sure if I shared with you before but I believe we are from the same area in Pennsylvania. I was born in Easton, moved to Bethlehem in high school, went to Lehigh University for college. I moved from Bethlehem to northern New York 12 years ago. I hope you have a lovely weekend as well, my friend!

Can’t wait for winter to roll over into spring! Thank you so much for the feature!! I hope you are feeling better. I do a little little bit but still a lot of coughing. Have a good weekend.

Thanks, Nancy! I am feeling better but I also have a really annoying lingering cough that is keeping me up every night. Ugh.

Wow, so many coats! Nice job, a coat is hard to find that makes one feel warm and well dressed at the same time. Thanks for hosting, Melynda @scratchmadefood!

Thanks so much, Melynda! I do need to do a coat cleanup soon, but for now I am enjoying my collection. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Love your colorful coats, Shelbee! The faux fur ones look especially cozy. I can see why you need a whole collection of outerwear, living in Northern New York. That is a lot of Winter! Thanks so much for sharing, and hosting the link of party. Hope you have a good weekend and a bit of a thaw!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Di, thanks so much! The furry ones are my favorites, too! And I think nearly every furry coat I own was thrifted. As much as I love my coats, I am looking forward to the day I can live in a warmer climate and ditch all the coats!

Your True Self
Hi, Shelbee – I can’t imagine how you can fit so many coats and other clothes too into a cloffice. The space must be huge! Thanks for hosting a linkup – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Well, the cloffice is rather small actually and only holds coats, jackets, and blazers. I have a closet room in the upstairs for all the other stuff! Thanks for stopping by, my friend!

Wow! You really do have a lot of coats, but I can see why you would want them all. You need that variety and choice when you have cold weather as long as you do. I am going to try to snap a photo of one or two of my coats. Thanks, my friend, for the link up!

I definitely did not have this many coats when I first moved here 12 years ago. My coat collection grew out of necessity! Haha. I do hope you will join us again for this round. Have a lovely weekend, my friend!

I really feel like I need to up my winter coat game now. WOW! You have so many and I love all the various colors and textures and patterns.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Joanne! While you need to add more coats, I need to get rid of some of my coats! But boy, do I have attachment issues to my clothing. Hahaha. I received your submission for this month. I am so glad that you are joining us!

I cannot remember where you live. I know you said you have winter about 8 months a year. That makes me think it is maybe Minnesota or North Dakota or Montana?? But not.sure any of those are right. I checked your ABOUT page but didn’t see it mentioned there, either. Please remind me!!
If anyone has great coats, it is YOU. Love all of the above and would wear each of them. I had a blue faux fur coat I wore for months, inside and out, in 7th grade to hide my developing figure/bust. Wish I had that baby now, but it wouldn’t come close to fitting.
I really want to join you kids for SIA and this link up this month. Off to examine my coats and search for the most colorful thing in my closet for SIA.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Aww, thanks so much, Leslie! I live in Watertown, New York, which is less than 30 miles from the Canadian border. We live right near Lake Ontario in the snow belt where lake effect snow storms bury every single winter. Our average annual snowfall is around 100 inches and once it comes it doesn’t melt until June! I do hope you will join us with some of your favorite coats this month. There are definitely some oldies that I wish I still had as well. Have a lovely weekend, my friend!
