A Girl Walked into a Bar & Link Up On the Edge #119
You know that old philosophy that people come into your life for a reason? Everyone has a purpose to serve within each encounter and each relationship. What that purpose is will differ with each individual dynamic and each separate event. Some people will push you. Some will challenge you. Some will question you. Some will teach you. Some will frustrate the hell out of you. Some will bring you pleasure. Some will bring you pain. Some will enrich you. Some will empower you. Some will feed your intellect. Some will fuel your soul. Some will hate you with a passion. And some will love you with no bounds. So many…

Cold Weather Coziness with Ethyl Clothing
It is that time of year when the weather in Northern New York just turns kind of crummy. While the fall foliage is absolutely stunning up here, it lasts for a very short period of time and before we know it we are buried in snow until some time in May. And as you are all probably well aware by now, I get so damn stinking cold when the temperatures drop below 50. I honestly don’t know how I am going to survive this winter if we hit our typical temperatures of 20 to 40 degrees below zero. When Ethyl Clothing invited me to try out some of their fall…

Wednesday’s Quote of the Week & An Outfit
I know I only shared two Word of the Week posts so far, but I have to admit, I am not a fan. I don’t like it. It was supposed to be an easy post to write but then I found myself getting all stressed trying to come up with a great word for the day. So silly…getting stressed about such a benign thing. So I am bailing on the Word of the Week posts in favor of a Quote of the Week instead. I do love a good quote! And while I do enjoy the etymology of words, stringing a bunch of words together to create magic is way…

Explaining a Soldier’s Suicide
If you read yesterday’s Sunday Morning Quarterback, you know that my husband recently lost a good friend and co-worker to suicide. My husband is a man of a few words…especially when it comes to things that are very emotionally heavy. The Army and multiple deployments spent on the front lines taught him that. So I am so very proud of him for touching on the subject in his weekly post. But I believe it warrants a deeper conversation, a conversation that is obviously important to me as I frequently discuss issues of mental health in my blog space. If you are struggling with mental health issues of your own or…

Shelbee’s Sunday Morning Quarterback #9: The Great, the Good, the Bad, and the Sad
#5 Michigan Wolverines 42 – #14 Penn State Nittany Lions 7 Welcome to the ninth episode of Shelbee’s Sunday Morning Quarterback! Before I turn the keyboard over to my husband, I just want to add a short preface. We are a few hours behind schedule on this one, making it more like the Sunday Afternoon Quarterback…there was a lot of drinking and way too much food consumed yesterday that left us both feeling lethargic this morning. Not to mention, the emotional aspect of yesterday…keep reading for details on that. By the way, I am so proud of my husband for addressing the topics he did in this post today. He…

Running on Empty & Link Up On the Edge #118
I had big goals today. Again. And my energy level did not meet my ambition level. Again. And I have tons of work that needs to get done. Again. And there are not enough hours in the day. Again. And I know that my little sob story here is not unique or strange or different. It is the world we all live in and the cycles we all pass through. So you can relate, I’m sure. So bear with me whilst I continue on my whiny way… I have much to write that needs writing. Topics of great importance to me that are becoming clearer in my head and prime…

The Magnificent 8 Are Distressed
I don’t know if you remember back in July when I introduced a new quarterly collaboration with 7 amazing blogger friends who each represents a different decade of life…The Magnificent 8 Showcase: Life’s a Beach. We range from teens to 80’s and are showing that style truly is ageless. Each quarter, we choose a theme and each create an outfit that suits our own personal tastes and fashion choices and we post them on the last Wednesday of every third month. So be sure to go check out everyone’s posts for lots of style inspiration at any age! Courtney of Sugar Coated Bears is representing teenagers. Michelle of Michelle’s Pa(i)ge…

Guest Post: There’s a Nun in My Head & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #95
Note from Shelbee: This is the third guest post by my friend and avid blog reader, Susan Marinelli. Susan has taken a more introspective approach in this piece, but her wit and humor are still evident as she works her way through processing experiences from her formative years, explaining how they continue to impact her as an adult. I am pretty sure we can all relate to something similar. And once again, I am ever so grateful to Susan for assisting me by providing thought-provoking content for my blog. As if life were not crazy enough for me, certain events have occurred in the past two days that require my immediate…

The Fab 40’s Went Goth
For as long as I can remember, I have always been drawn to different fashion trends, never fitting into one clean little box of style. Throughout the seasons of my life as I have experimented with my own personal style, I have noticed that I favor certain styles more than others. But one genre of fashion that always makes me feel most comfortably like myself is Goth. Not the over the top, spikes and leather and morbid Goth, but a more subtle and tame version of Goth style. When Suzy of Pixie Chick in Portugal chose this month’s theme for The Fab 40’s, my angsty heart from my teenage years…
