ATLINIA: Breath of Nature While You Sleep & Link Up On the Edge #275

You might already know how I have been struggling with sleep during these premenopausal years. I am either too hot, too cold, too uncomfortable, too anxious, or in some other way too hormonally imbalanced for proper sleep. So I am always looking for ways to update my sleep environment to be more conducive to a good long healthy night’s sleep.

This past summer, I upgraded my comforter to a bamboo one which has really helped to improve my body temperature issues at night. Natural fiber bedding really does have some wonderful sleep and health benefits especially for those of us who struggle with menopause symptoms that effect our sleep. I have been wanting to update my sheets to 100% natural fibers as well but was waiting until I got around to my bedroom makeover.

But then an opportunity came about to collaborate with a new home textiles brand that specializes in natural, eco-friendly products for your home. From kitchen to living room to bedroom and bathroom, ATLINIA offers the finest natural fabrics in elegant and classic styles with a huge variety of colors to coordinate with almost any home decor aesthetic.

With products constructed from natural fibers like hemp, cotton, and linen, ATLINIA has committed to providing the finest fabrics in the world to breathe nature directly into your home. Sourcing flax plants from Normandy, France, where the climate is ideal for the most luxurious linens, ATLINIA uses the most ecologically sustainable processes available. The company is OEKO-TEX ®, European Flax, and GOTS certified, which assures you that there are no harmful chemicals or other substances on their products.

I was asked to choose one product from their website to review and since natural fiber sheets were at the top of “to buy” list, I decided on the 100% Hemp Cotton Sheet Set in Grey. This sheet set is available in Queen and King sizes (I have a King bed) and five beautifully muted, soft natural colors…Dusty Rose, Dusty Blue, Grey, Ivory, and Parchment. I struggled a bit in choosing a color because they are all so pretty. I opted for the grey because I am planning a grey and blue color scheme for my bedroom makeover. But even if I change my mind, the grey is neutral enough to coordinate with most room color palettes.

Now let me talk about the fabric blend of these sheets. They are a 55% hemp/45% cotton blend, very similar to my hemp underwear that I love so much. And really just as soft as my favorite hemp underwear as well. The hemp and cotton blend is supposed to keep me warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I have to say that so far it lives up to the keeping me warm in winter part. And it also keeps me cool in heat flash zones. The fabric feels like a super soft lightweight flannel. While I love the idea of flannel sheets for their warmth factor, I hate how flannel fabric sticks to the fabrics of my pajamas and can also get a little staticky. The hemp/cotton blend gives the warmth and softness of flannel without that static clinginess.

My only complaint, which really isn’t much of a complaint at all, would be the wrinkle factor that comes with natural fabrics. After I washed and dried my new sheet set, I put it immediately on the bed. As you can see in the photos, the hemp/cotton blend naturally holds lots of wrinkles. I had contemplated ironing the sheets for the photographs but then that seemed ridiculous to me. Because it’s not real life. I would never ever take the time to iron my sheets for any reason. I am not judging anyone who does iron their sheets though. I used to iron my socks when I was a kid. But ironing socks or sheets at this stage of life is just not for me. So if you don’t mind wrinkly sheets or don’t mind ironing your sheets, then I highly recommend this super soft set.

I have slept on these sheets all week and have definitely experienced better sleep than I have in the past few months. They keep me warm when I get in all shivery cold. When the heat flashes hit in the middle of the night, the sheets really do keep me cool. I am still waking up at 3:00 a.m. everyday, but I am waking up more rested so that is definite progress. And I’ll take any kind of progress I can get.

Slow progress is still progress and I am slowly updating, upgrading, replacing, and redoing all the rooms in my home. I started small in January with my cloffice project and managed to get the painting finished through the downstairs hallway, up the stairs, and the upstairs hallways (which has a lot of doors and trim that took tedious amounts of time to paint) by November. That’s what I mean by slow progress. It took me nearly an entire year to paint a closet and two hallways. After the holidays, I will begin on the living room painting project. I have already created two new gorgeous gallery walls in my living room to set the mood for that makeover. And once the downstairs is completed, then I will move up to the bedrooms. I will share my slow progress as I go!

If you are looking to update your home, definitely check out some of the other products from ATLINIA. I am considering one of the duvet cover sets as well as some new aprons for the kitchen.

What’s old is new again. When I was a teenager, I had the privilege of spending summers with my great grandmother. All of her sheets were 100% cotton. It’s what she had always had having been born in 1900. She didn’t iron them. At her age, that would gave been expecting a lot. I somehow doubt that she ever did as she had of other things to do being a farm woman. Anyway, I loved the feel of those cotton sheets. So crisp. So I think I can imagine how your cotton / hemp sheets feel. Lovely!

Michelle, thank you for sharing this story of your great grandmother’s sheets. You painted such a vivd image in my head that was so pleasant and warm! I don’t even know what the fabric content of my other sheets is, but I imagine they are some kind of synthetic blend. And while they are soft and silky to sleep on, there really is something different and wonderful and, well, more natural, about the cotton/hemp sheets. I highly recommend! I may have to also get a second set in a different color. Spoil me rotten in my fancy sheets!

I am rapidly turning into my grandma! I bought a set of sheets several years ago…high thread count and really, really wonderful. My husband moves his feet constantly, and his scraggly toenails ripped a hole in the fitted sheet. Have you tried to buy just a fitted sheet? So, I got some scrap fabric and patched the sheet! Yep, there’s a big old patch of girly floral on his side of the bed! The rest of the sheet was still fine, and I’m trying so hard not to add to the landfill problem of fabrics! So, there’s my story on sheets! (I also darn his wool socks). I cannot wait (though it sounds like I will be) to see your bedroom makeover. That’s one thing about my husband…if we start a project, we get it done as quickly as possible. That may be because we both work on it. I’m guessing you are solo on this…it would take me forever!

Oh my gosh, Marsha, I so enjoyed reading this comment! I do know how difficult is to buy just a fitted sheet! I have tried and never succeeded. Good on you for mending the sheet and darning the socks! I definitely use bed linens until they literally have fallen to threads and then become drop cloths for painting projects before being disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

I am not solo on my painting project…Jeff does all of the prep work and I do all of the painting. I just have a really bad case of the lazies lately so getting me motivated is the biggest hurdle in the process! Once I get started, I enjoy the process and can zip right through it until completion. I…just…need…to…get…myself…started…slow as molasses over here! Haha

Those sheets look wonderfully luxurious and soft! Fiber content really does make a big difference in keeping comfortable for the best night of sleep 😴. I love that Atlinia is so environmentally conscious. Thanks for sharing and hope you are having a happy holiday!

Di, thanks so much! They really are super luxurious and soft. I love climbing into them every night. I need to get a second set and ditch my old ones. I hope you are having a lovely holiday season! Many blessings to you and your family.

I’ve been such a fan of sheets that help me stay cool at night! These sheets sound really nice! I have to say it’s odd that the higher quality materials and sheets always seem to wrinkle. They feel so much better though!

I know what you mean Shelbee, since coming off HRT 5 weeks ago I’m plagued with hot flashes, which keep waking me at night! So anything that can help gets my vote. Have a good weekend my friend x

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my goodness, Gail, I am so sorry to hear about your hot flashes. My sleep is so messed up right now, I don’t know if it’s day or night or what day it is half the time! Last night, for example, I slept from 9:30 until 2:15 (with 3 bathroom trips in there). At 2:15 I could fall back to sleep so I came downstairs and laid on the couch. I dozed off from about 5:00-5:50 and have been awake since. But I will be super tired and crashing by noon and then I am worthless for the rest of the day. It’s a terrible cycle! I agree any little thing that helps is a very good thing! I hope you have a lovely weekend and can get some “cool” sleep!

I insist on cotton sheets! So much so, I travel with a cotton duvet cover that I use as a cocoon over motel bedding.
Just call me a member of the Princess and the Pea club. It does mitigate the “ewww” factor in some motel situations.

My mom inherited linen sheets from a second cousin’s estate. They were old and super soft (he had staff to deal with ironing them). I wonder what happened to them?

Glad these sheets are helping your disordered sleep. Since I sleep solo (Severo has his own room because of snoring), I was all covers off, covers on during hot flashes. The night sweats though… don’t miss all that a bit!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Anne, I absolutely love that you travel with a cotton duvet cover! Mostly for the ick factor in hotel bedding. And I feel like the ick factor gets worse each time I stay in a hotel! I think I may have to start traveling with the same! I have used my tee shirts as pillow cases for hotel pillows though. Is that weird?

By the way, I am big proponent of solo sleeping! Although Jeff and I do sleep together in our king size bed, I hate being touched at all when I am sleeping, so we stay as far apart as possible in our big bed! If we had space for separate sleep quarters, I think we would embrace it. More for me though. With my sleep being so disrupted, I always feel like I am disrupting his sleep (which I am not because 22 years in the army has trained him to be able to sleep under any circumstances). I also am all covers on, all covers off, then back on, then one leg out, then all off again…all night long! It is miserable.

On that note, I hope your weekend is going well!

HAha, no tee as pillowcase NOT weird. I go a big step further and bring my own pillow. I have a whole bedding bag that I take. One reason I rarely fly.

One leg out… remember that move well!

    xo

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

I rarely travel by plane either for this exact reason! If I can fit it in my car, I can bring it along. I could bring a whole damn bed that way if I really wanted to! Haha. I also like to hang one leg out while traveling and they frown upon that on planes!

      xoxo

      • Anne M Bray

Hahaha. I HAD a whole bed in my vehicle when I owned a van!

Now, about the leg out thing… Do you drive that way? I saw a dude driving with his left foot out the window. Before I passed him, I was all, what the what does he have sticking out his window?

        Have a great week!

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

OMG, I would totally have a whole bed in my vehicle if there was room for it! And no, I don’t actually stick one leg out the window while driving! HAHAHAHAHA Although I have seen people do that as well and it always befuddles me!

          xoxo

          • Anne M Bray

Yes, the #vanlife days were awesome. LOTS of road trips in the late 90s! I got a kids bedframe from Ikea and raised it up with PVC pipe for underbed storage. Some trips I even took the cats!

I am relieved to learn that you keep your legs inside the vehicle while driving. Hahahaha.

          • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

OMG, Anne, once these boys of mine turn into adults and leave the nest, I think I might enjoy some #vanlife myself! Maybe that’s what lies ahead for me and Jeff! And I do so solemnly swear to always keep my feet and legs inside the vehicle while driving! Ha.
