Adventures in Thrifting Part 28: Mint and Brown Floral Kimono & Spread the Kindness Link Up On the Edge #816

Lately, I have been going on a lot of thrifting adventures. I definitely don’t need any more clothes in my closet, but sometimes I get bored and enjoy a little hunt in the thrift store. Plus, most of my favorite retailers no longer have physical stores in my area and I really don’t enjoy online shopping as much as in-person shopping. I like to try on clothing and touch and feel the fabrics before purchasing. And I really hate returning things. I don’t know why but the whole process of returning items to stores makes me really uncomfortable. It always has. So I try to avoid it if possible. Most of my in-store returns are things that I purchased for my husband or children. Since they all hate in-person shopping, I get to be their personal shopper which requires returns more often than not. It’s very frustrating and annoying, but if I didn’t do it this way, my family would never have new clothes. They would just keep wearing rags until they disintegrate right off their bodies!

Anyway, on one of my recent thrifty excursions, I found this beautiful mint and brown floral kimono robe. It’s another LulaRoe Shirley Kimono, the same style as the pink tribal print kimono that I shared a few weeks ago. Actually, I bought this one back in April when my in-laws were visiting for Easter. My mother-in-law loves a good thrifting adventure as much as I do so it has become our tradition to spend a girls only day shopping and lunching whenever they visit. She loved this beautiful minty green floral print as much as I did. If she wore kimonos, I would have let her have this one because we all know that I have quite enough kimono robes. But she doesn’t dress like I do so all the robes we find are mine!

I don’t know if you remember my mentioning that I had bought myself a pair of chocolate brown crinkle crepe harem pants that I wished I had for my Mori Girl outfit. Well, these are it and I love them. They are basically just super comfortable lightweight joggers that are great for the summer humidity. I also bought them in black. They are currently on sale for $25 and in my opinion, they are totally worth it!

To allow my new thrifted kimono to be the focal point of this outfit, I created a dark brown column by pairing my joggers with a brown tee shirt and my brown Furkenstocks. My necklace stack consists of all preloved necklaces in shades of brown and teal/mint. My brown wooden earrings were also a thrift store find. Finally, my minty felt Panama hat coordinated perfectly with the colors of the kimono.

I styled this casual outfit just for a regular day of doing all the things that a busy stay-at-home mom does. In the afternoon, Jeff and I went out for a little walk around the neighborhood and used the opportunity to take a few photos along the way.

Other than the synthetic fabric composition, this floral kimono gives me all the Bridgerton vibes. So I intend to restyle it at some point with Regency era inspiration in mind. Perhaps it needs a full skirted maxi dress for the perfect coupling or maybe a swooshy midi dress over a pair of frilly bloomers. (I first would need to get myself a pair of frilly bloomers.)

Oh, the options are basically endless when it comes to my wardrobe. I have enough stuff in that old magical closet room that I could very easily never repeat the same exact outfit for the rest of my life and I’d probably still have clothes leftover that have never been worn. And that’s after my big closet clean out over the weekend.

My obsession with and over-consumption of sartorial things runs deep. Since I was a very young child, my most precious belongings have always been wearable. It used to embarrass me but never enough for me to change my ways. And now at 52, I’ve decided to embrace it. I have the means and I have the space but I no longer have the guilt. And that’s a really wonderful thing!

Have you discovered any fabulous thrift shop finds lately? Maybe thrifting isn’t your game. It’s not for everyone. But it is one of my very favorite things to do! Thrifting brings me joy threefold…there is joy in the hunt, joy in the discovery, and joy in the styling of my secondhand treasures. You know what they say about another person’s junk…it very likely could be my treasure. Or yours. I guess it depends on who finds it first!
