Adventures in Thrifting Part 10: Shades of Blue, Big Earrings & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #224
I haven’t been thrift shopping in a few weeks, but I have a pile of really cute dresses that I picked up the last time I made my thrift shop rounds. I was waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before going bare legged and it finally has so I can wear my new preloved summer dresses now. I am all about loose flowing lightweight dresses when the weather starts to get warm. They are so comfortable for all day wear. And when I am just hanging around at home, which I usually am, I can remove my bra and let the girls swing free underneath and no…

The Thrifty Six are Blooming in Spring Florals
This month Jane has chosen florals for our Thrifty Six prompt. Florals are a classic print that I am fairly certain will remain an infinitely timeless classic in fashion. But the fun thing about floral prints is that they come in literally every color palette as well as a limitless variety of different sized prints from ditsy florals to giant oversized psychedelic floral prints. And when it comes to preloved floral pieces, I have a lot in my closet. The real challenge was choosing a starting point. I opted to begin with this beautiful indigo ditsy floral printed shirt dress that I had purchased at my local consignment shop two…

Romance & Ruffles | May Stylish Monday Link Up
Romance and Ruffles is the theme this month for our Stylish Monday Link Party. While I am a hopeless romantic and a total love junkie, ruffles are a thing of scarcity in my closet. I have a few bits and pieces that have a ruffled hem or some flouncy tiers but none of them were really speaking to me as I got to thinking about this style prompt. And if the clothing isn’t speaking to me then I am not hearing it or seeing it or wearing it. I almost declined to participate this month because of my lack of ruffled motivation and then I remembered this bold and dramatic…

The Magnificent 8 in Our Fancy Pants
The term fancy pants has a rather negative connotation with every definition I have found using the word pretentious as the primary translation of this mid-19th century American idiom. But my magnificent friends and I are all far from pretentious in our versions of this month’s Fancy Pants theme. In fact, pretentious is the probably the opposite of what I am…even in my fancy pants. I think my entire outfit cost less than $50 and that includes my shoes which were probably around $30 (I can’t recall because they are a few years old now). I found these tie dye pants on a thrifting adventure last fall. I think they…

Adventures in Thrifting Part 9: Creative Mending & Link Up On the Edge #241
I did it! I finally tackled my ever growing pile of mending and I got straight to the bottom of the pile in just a few short days. The bulk of my mending work was spent on this thrifted polka dotty dress from Zara. My local Salvation Army thrift store has been receiving excess and damaged products from Zara in abundance recently. There is one huge long clothing rack that is filled with just this brand. Most of the items still have the tags on them and are in brand new condition. Some of the items with tags do have minor damage like spots or perfume odors or slight tears…

The Rise of the Flying Phoenix & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #219
“Hope rises like a phoenix from the ashes of shattered dreams.” S.A. Sachs “The phoenix must burn to emerge.” Janet Fitch “And when all that was left was ashes, she would again clothe herself in flame. Rising from the dust of her past to rekindle the spark of her future. She was a Phoenix, her own salvation; rebirthed, renewed, resurrected.” LaRhonda Toreson I recently presented my husband with a nonsensical argument that proved that I am the sun. It went something like this…I cannot sleep if it is light out. Naps never happen even if I wear a sleep mask over my eyes and pull the blackout curtains tight. My…

The Thrifty Six Step Back in Time
“All that makes earlier times seem simpler is our ignorance of their complexities.” Thomas Sowell When Emma announced this month’s Thrifty Six theme, Back in Time, my mind went immediately to this vintage houndstooth sheath dress that I found on a thrifting adventure a few months back in time. I am not certain of the era of this specific dress. It may not actually be vintage at all. Although, according to the industry definition of vintage clothing, any garments from 2001 and earlier would be considered vintage. The brand is Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit Designs which is a contemporary brand carried by JCPenney. I did some internet digging to see what…

Everyday Luxe | April Stylish Monday Link Up
“True luxury is being able to own your time – to be able to take a walk, sit on your porch, read the paper, not take the call, not be compelled by obligation.” Ashton Kutcher Luxe is a word that I don’t think I have ever used in my entire life. Certainly, I have used variations of this word like luxurious and luxury as well as deluxe but I was never really certain what the base root of these words, luxe, really meant and so I have always just abstained from incorporating this word into my life. Until it was presented as this month’s Stylish Monday theme. And you know that…

Adventures in Thrifting Part 8: Seersucker, Gingham, and Argyle for Easter & Link Up On the Edge #238
I haven’t written an Adventures in Thrifting post in over a month so I guess this is the perfect time to share how I created a fun Easter outfit from some thrifted pieces that were hanging around my closet. Do you remember the purple argyle and green argyle sweaters I found in a donation bag in the basement? This pastel pink one was in the same bag along with this seersucker blazer. There is something very nostalgic about seersucker for me. I remember my very first seersucker suit. It was a blazer very similar to this one with matching trousers. I purchased it in the late 1990’s when I was…
