Songful Style | “Leather and Lace” by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #264

I must apologize for not getting this post live yesterday as I said I would. I began my 900 mile drive back home from North Carolina before 6:00 a.m. on Monday and arrived home just before noon on Tuesday. I thought I would sit down and write it then, but after unpacking all of my things and getting back into the parenting routine at home I was just too darn tired. I will share more about my trip next week once I get myself a bit more organized.

For now, let me share more inspiration for March’s Songful Style prompt.

About Songful Style

Songful Style is a new ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, Michelle of My Bijou Life, Marsha of Marsha in the Middle, and Anne of Spy Girl

Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite you to use whatever aspect of the song that inspires you to create an outfit.

It is similar to Style Imitating Art where we use artwork to inspire our outfit creations. Except Songful Style gives you lyrics, music, video, and album artwork to inspire your fashion creativity. You may even find inspiration in a memory triggered by the selected song. It is all open to your own personal interpretation and just a fun way to discover new music and get a little bit more creative with your wardrobe.

Anyone is welcome to join us on a permanent basis or you can just play along without any obligation to do anything other than feel inspired. We are flexible and fun and just want to find more ways to play dress up because it’s what we enjoy doing!

We will be posting on the last Monday of each month and will announce our song choice for the following month at the end of each post.

The Lyrics (Source):

“Leather and Lace”

Is love so fragile
And the heart so hollow
Shatter with words
Impossible to follow

You’re saying I’m fragile
I try not to be
I search only for something
I can’t see

I have my own life
And I am stronger than you know
But I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won’t be walking out the door

Still I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won’t be walking out the door

Lovers forever, face to face
My city, your mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me my lace

You in the moonlight
With your sleepy eyes
Could you ever love a man like me?
And you were right
When I walked into your house
I knew I’d never want to leave

Sometimes I’m a strong man
Sometimes cold and scared
And sometimes I cry
But that time I saw you
I knew with you to light my nights
Somehow I’d get by

Lovers forever, face to face
My city, your mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me my lace

Lovers forever, face to face
My city, your mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me my lace
But take from me my lace
Take from me my lace
About the Song:

“”Leather and Lace’ is a song performed by American singers Stevie Nicks and Don Henley. It was released on October 6, 1981 as the second single from Nicks’ solo debut studio album Bella Donna (1981). Nicks wrote the song for Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter’s duet album Leather and Lace, but the song was not included on that album. Nicks’ version, a duet with Eagles singer Don Henley, peaked at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in January 1982.” (Source)

Why I Chose This Song:

This is our song. I remember the first time listening to it with Jeff in the very early days of our dating relationship. We both looked at each other and immediately acknowledged in one glance how accurately this song represented our relationship. The first time Jeff walked into my house, he never really did leave and I never wanted him to. He was likely clad in his motorcycle leather, too, and me in my lace. It is just musical perfection!

Album Covers:

Remember that you can use anything related to this song to inspire your outfit. You are not limited to just what I have shared here either. Feel free to do your own research if you’d like. And happy songful styling!
