The Magnificent 8 are Stylishly Thrifty
We are back with our quarterly collaboration of 8 magnificent ladies showcasing personal style that spans the generations. The Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among 8 style bloggers, each in a different age bracket, ranging from 20’s to 80’s. The mission of this collaboration is to show you just how ageless style is, how we can each dress however we’d like and in ways that make us feel fabulous. There are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. Every quarter we choose a theme and each create an outfit that suits our own personal tastes…

The Magnificent 8 are Putting Pins on Things
The Magnificent 8 is back sharing with you some unique and interesting ways to style brooches or pins. If you know me at all, then you know that I have small collections of all sorts of different fashion items…shoes, kimonos, hats, gloves, tights, socks, coats, jeans, scarves, and many more. So it should come as no surprise when I tell you that I also have a small collection of brooches that I have acquired throughout the years. Some are vintage and antique, some are heirlooms, some were thrifted, some were gifted, and some were bought at retail stores most likely on clearance. But all of them have a special place…

The Magnificent 8 in Versatile Vest Styles
Vests have a been a garment that have sort of confused me for my most of my life. However, I have always had a few in my closet dating back to early childhood when I proudly donned a black zipper hoodie layered beneath a denim vest in perfect Chachi Arcola style. I might have even tied a red bandana around my thigh back in those days! I also recall a favorite outfit of mine from elementary school that consisted of olive green corduroy kickers with matching fair aisle socks that pulled up to my knees and were snuggly secured by the elastic band of the knickers just below my kneecaps.…

The Magnificent 8 Found Inspiration in Magazines
Back in April, I shared an outfit that was inspired by a photoshoot in the January 2021 edition of InStyle Magazine after seeing Jodie’s post where Lesley recreated an outfit inspired by a Fendi ad in the March 2021 edition of InStyle Magazine. It was at this time that Jodie suggested a magazine ad as our style prompt for this quarter’s Magnificent 8. We all agreed that this would be a super fun challenge and now here we are with our outfits inspired by something we found in a magazine. I have free subscriptions to InStyle and Essence Magazines that I got from ordering shoes from Shoe Dazzle and JustFab.…

The Magnificent 8 in Our Fancy Pants
The term fancy pants has a rather negative connotation with every definition I have found using the word pretentious as the primary translation of this mid-19th century American idiom. But my magnificent friends and I are all far from pretentious in our versions of this month’s Fancy Pants theme. In fact, pretentious is the probably the opposite of what I am…even in my fancy pants. I think my entire outfit cost less than $50 and that includes my shoes which were probably around $30 (I can’t recall because they are a few years old now). I found these tie dye pants on a thrifting adventure last fall. I think they…

The Magnificent 8 are Outside the Box
“If you build a wall to separate people, there will be those who find a way around the wall, or over it, or under it, or through it. We humans are not meant to be contained, and neither are our thoughts.” Teresa R. Funke And building from that, our personal style and creativity should never be contained either. That’s why The Magnificent 8 has chosen Outside the Box as our theme this month. We have all created outfits wearing something not as it was originally intended to be worn. For example, my dress is not a dress at all. It is actually a lightweight trench coat that I styled as…

The Magnificent 8 Put On Our Pearls
“Pearls are always appropriate.” Jackie Kennedy I tend to agree with Mrs. Kennedy. I have had a love affair with pearls for as long as I can remember. And I cannot think of an occasion where pearls would be inappropriate. I wear them with everything from formal gowns to ripped jeans and graphic tees. I like them in small doses and I love them in overabundance. Loads and loads of pearls cascading around my neck make me feel so feminine and bold, like I can conquer the world in ways that only the fiercest women can. When the Magnificent 8 chose Pearls as our theme for this month, I was…

The Magnificent 8: Hello, Yellow!
We are back with a fun theme for summertime…Hello, Yellow! But before we get to all that, let me introduce you all to our newest group member, Mica from Away from the Blue! We are so glad that she will be joining us each quarter as one of the Magnificent 8. Mica lives in Australia which has opposite seasons from all of the other members of this group. While it is summer here, it is winter for Mica. I am excited for that bit of seasonal diversity with our quarterly style prompts! We will also have to keep this in mind when choosing style prompts as well. I don’t think…

The Magnificent 8: How Does Your Garden Grow?
When Spring finally decides to arrive in the North Country, the flowers bloom with a passion and intensity that any seedling would possess after being buried in the frozen ground for a very long and cold 8 months. I know. Because I am quite similar to the frozen seedlings. I have been so cold for so long that I am running out of patience as I await the arrival of some warmth and sunshine so I too can bloom with passion and intensity. And all this time spent in quarantine has further fed my desire to bask in the warm air while the sunshine gently kisses my face. While Spring…

The Magnificent 8 Style Heirlooms
It seems that with the dawning of new decade, nostalgia for times gone by is on the rise. Just this week, I joined my Fab 40’s friends in showcasing styles inspired by a century ago…the Roaring 1920’s. While I obviously am not old enough to have witnessed the Jazz Age in person, I am old enough to recollect the stories my grandparents shared of growing up during that era. When I was a young child and even a teenager listening to their stories of this simpler time from the past, it seemed liked a foreign and very remote place in time, one that I couldn’t really relate to nor could…
