Songful Style | “Venus” by Bananarama & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #701
Once again, I am late writing this post and have just 10 days to get myself together. So here we go with our songful inspiration for this month’s musical style game. About Songful Style Songful Style is an ageless style challenge series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, Marsha of Marsha in the Middle, and Suzy of Suzy Turner, The Grey Brunette (formerly The Grey Brunette). Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite you to use whatever aspect of the song that inspires you to create an outfit. It is similar to Style Imitating Art where we use artwork to inspire our outfit creations. Except Songful Style gives…

The Great Mushroom Takeover & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #700
I wore this crazy outfit a few weeks ago to run errands and had no intention of even photographing it until Archie said I looked like a mushroom. This made me laugh and so I insisted he take a few pictures of me. Today seemed like the perfect day to share this fungus-inspired outfit since the masons are coming this afternoon to inspect the chimney and hopefully guide us in the right direction for remediating the mushroom in the ceiling problem. In fact, I am wearing this tee shirt and earrings today for the occasion. It is much too warm for all the rest of it. I bought myself this…

Shelbee on the Rags: My Living Room Window Treatments & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #699
Since sharing my living room makeover last April, I have added lots of little details to my decor including the completion of my window treatments. If you recall, I used scarves for the two small windows framing the fireplace and the single window that overlooks my front porch. For the side triple window, my mother-in-law gave me some old lace curtains that I dyed teal which really brightened up the dark wood blinds. I liked it all well enough but the bigger windows felt incomplete. Then my mother-in-law gave me two more lace panels so I dyed those and added them to the single window using the scarf as a…

Shelbee on the Rags: “Coffee Break” Rag Curtain & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #698
This next raggery project was inspired by my “Café au Lait” Shaggy Raggy Garland. After the garland was completed and my older son said it looked like coffee, I got the idea to create a large rag curtain in a similar color palette with the image of a coffee cup. But I really wasn’t sure how to do it! When I created the “Carolina on My Mind” rag curtain in the shape of a tree, I was guided completely by prayer and faith in the artistic process. For the coffee cup curtain, however, I was not confident in faith alone and needed a little more concrete assistance. So I got…

Kicking Off Birthday Season in Braces & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #697
On Wednesday night, I said good night to a 10 year old. Yesterday, I said good morning to an 11 year old. Today, I am wondering how the years fly by so quickly when the days can feel exponentially long. Last Friday, we took both kids to the orthodontist to begin their respective treatments just in time for birthday season. Archie opted for Invisalign and is doing remarkably well with them. Ralph had some crowding issues that were preventing two adult teeth from coming in so he now has an expander and brackets with no wires. We have to keep expanding his little mouth until mid-April and then he returns…

Highlights from My North Carolina Road Trip & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #694
I had the most wonderful road trip but it completely exhausted me. I logged 2,957 miles in the car despite my perpetual driving anxiety and I did it with grace and dignity and very little anxiety at all. Yay me! I got home last Tuesday and have been basically sleeping since then. All that driving and the late nights pooped me out right good. Since I spent most of my vacation living in the moment, I didn’t take very many photos. Again. But I will share some quick highlights with you before we head into the weekend. I will probably sleep through the weekend, too! On my first full day…

Remember you can interpret these themes as creatively as you’d like. If it makes you feel like sunshine, share it with us! Anything will do, we just like to see what you’ve got. What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book? The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion…

New York State of Mind & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #693
I am writing this post on Tuesday morning, sitting on Becca’s couch in beautiful Tuckasegee, North Carolina, while her adorable pup Emmylou snores beside me. It is too dark to capture a photo right now so I went and swiped one from Becca’s Facebook page. Just look at that face! Emmylou and I are kindred spirits. She is most definitely my favorite canine on the planet. My trip has been wonderful so far. I drove most of Saturday and Sunday and I was so grateful for clear weather and light traffic the whole way. Becca invited her friends Gordon and Billy over for dinner on Sunday night which was really…

Gone to Carolina in My Mind & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #692
Tomorrow, I’ll be gone to Carolina in my car. It is time for my annual winter break solo road trip! The first part of my travels will begin early in the morning, not solo. I will have the kids in tow for the first 4 hours before dropping them off at Gramma’s house in Pennsylvania. Thank you, Gramma, for hanging with the children all week so I can journey on freely! Then a quick one hour drive to briefly see my sister, plan our sister-sleepover for the following week, and use her bathroom before continuing on for the final part of my Saturday driving. It will take about 3 hours…
