Songful Style Link Party #24 | “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John
It is time to share the outfits that were inspired by the song I chose for this month’s Songful Style challenge. Sir Elton John is not only one of the most talented and successful singers and composers of our time, but the man has incomparable style that would inspire any fashion forward human. I love the lyrics to “I’m Still Standing”, but I love the vibrant and flamboyant outfits that dominate the music video even more. In fact, the video is a brilliant representation of the bold and colorful fashion of the 1980s and I just can’t get enough! Even though my current style aesthetic is heavy on the hippie…

Songful Style | “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John
For the next round of Songful Style, it was my turn to choose the song that will inspire our outfits. I knew I wanted to feature an Elton John song in this series but the struggle came with deciding on which Elton John song. You know, there are so many that are just so magnificent that a person simply cannot choose one single favorite Elton John song. Since Sir Elton offers sartorial inspiration just by existing (the man has some seriously enviable style, doesn’t he?), I knew any song choice would be fun to style. But the lyrics to “I’m Still Standing” have always inspired and empowered me when I…

Songful Style Link Party #23 | “Humankind” by Coldplay
Suzy dropped a really difficult style challenge in our laps with her January song choice of “Humankind” by Coldplay. I wasn’t familiar with this song so this was my initial introduction to it. It’s a catchy tune that has a pretty high level of earwormness but I admittedly did not understand the lyrics at all upon first listen. After doing some online research and gathering background information for my song introduction post, I began to gain some clarity on the type of sartorial craziness I wanted to stir up in my magical closet room. Once I discovered that the song is from a concept album set in a fictional planetary…

Songful Style Link Party #22 | “Flowers are Red” by Harry Chapin
Marsha chose Harry Chapin‘s 1978 song, “Flowers are Red”, for our November Songful Style challenge. The song shares the story of a little boy who is drawing flowers in many colors on his first day of school. Until his teacher tells him that it’s not time for art and that flowers are red and leaves are green and therefore he shouldn’t be using any other colors in his picture. How obscene! You can find the lyrics and other details about this song and the artist in this post. I had never heard this song before Marsha introduced it for this challenge. While it is a lovely song with a very…

Songful Style | “Flowers are Red” by Harry Chapin & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #679
It’s Marsha’s turn to choose the song and she picked one I had never heard. I do love learning about new music. People who teach us about new music are very important, indeed. In case you are not familiar with “Flowers are Red” by Harry Chapin, keep reading for some of the history I have found on the internet. Songful Style Link Party #21 | “Meet Virginia” by Train
It was my turn to choose the song for this month’s music meets style challenge and I went with an old favorite, Train‘s 1998 pop hit “Meet Virginia”. You can read all sorts of details about the song and the band in my post, Songful Style | “Meet Virginia” by Train. I have been listening to this song for 25 years and it only recently occurred to me how strongly I relate to this imaginary woman named Virginia. In fact, the lyric that hit me with the most profound punch was this one… "You see her confidence is tragic But her intuition magic" I have failed to listen to my…

Songful Style | “Meet Virginia” by Train & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #674
It is my turn to choose a song for our next Songful Style challenge. For October, I have picked an old favorite of mine, “Meet Virginia” by Train. There are a lot of fun sartorial references in this song and I really can relate to Virginia so I am excited to see what kinds of styles are inspired by a woman who “wears high heels when she exercises”!
