I simply cannot believe that we are halfway through November already and it is time once again for Your Own Twist with Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart. For those of you who may not know, Monica went and got married on Halloween! So I wanted to take a brief moment to publicly congratulate her and Joe on their spooky nuptials…

May your every day be filled with love and laughter. And when troubles come your way, because they always do, may you love and laugh your way right through them. Many blessings to you both you and Joe!

And now you may be wondering what in the hell I am wearing in this post. Well, you see, Monica and I decided that we would choose an unexpected theme for this month. I feel like blogland and Pinterest are flooded with fall fashion and holiday outfit ideas to the point that even the most savvy of fashionistas can get bored. When I realized that November 20 is National Absurdity Day, I knew we had a theme that could be lots of fun!

So what the heck is one supposed to do to celebrate National Absurdity Day? Well, we are supposed to simply embrace all things illogical, unreasonable, and nonsensical. You can do this by acting weird (I do that everyday), saying ridiculous things out loud (I do that everyday as well), sending silly emails or texts to your favorite absurd people, watching a ridiculously bad movie, or wearing an outlandish and completely impractical outfit.

Obviously for this post, we are focused on absurd fashion. And there are definitely some really absurd fashion trends that have hit the style scene over the years. So I went searching for the absurdist trends I could find for some style inspiration. There are some really insane ones out there like clear plastic jeans, cowboy boot sandals, car mat skirts (not even joking), camel toe boots (still not joking), and of course, my favorite of all the absurdities is the super distressed, barely anything left, destructed denim.

This image is from Pinterest but I cannot find it again!

Don’t get me wrong, I love distressed denim more than any other style of jeans on the market. There is something just cool and edgy and comfortable about ripped jeans that lets people know you are laid back and easy going. But there is such a thing as too much destruction. And when I spotted the images above, I knew that is exactly what I wanted for my Absurdity Day outfit.

But first I needed the absurd jeans. I will spend a decent sum of money on quality distressed denim, however, I will not spend any money whatsoever on a bunch of denim seams with nothing in between. I have bins filled with jeans that are either listed for resale on Poshmark or marked as “maybe I will wear these again someday”. So I went digging for the perfect denim to completely destroy.

I found a pair of Old Navy straight leg jeans that were just kind of blah in fit on me. I grabbed a pair of scissors and with no planning whatsoever I started hacking away at the legs leaving just thin strips of denim to keep everything properly attached. I didn’t want to bare my undies so I left the top part more like cut off shorts than the ass baring styles from the inspiration images. I can be absurd, but maybe not that absurd.

I added my sparkly rainbow tights underneath and my turquoise velvet booties just to make sure to draw proper attention to these ridiculous jeans. In an attempt to make this a wearable outfit (it really is not), I stuck with a plain black peplum style top. And then I went out in public to take photos.

You read that right and you can see it in the images…I actually walked out of my house, got into the car, drove to the park, and then walked around the park taking photos as if I were wearing some iconic new style that everyone should try. (Note: I do not recommend that you try this trend. At least not in the winter time!) There were a few passersby in the park this day and I definitely saw a some very confused looks on their faces. But I just held my head high and realized that I quite literally have no fucks left to give about what people think of my absurd style choices.

So I wore the absurd jeans and I strutted around like it was nobody’s business. And then I laughed my ass off while I was editing the photos.

Would you, could you, wear pants like these in public? I dare you to wear something this absurd! In fact, you could try it tomorrow to celebrate National Absurdity Day. Why not have a little bit of ridiculous stupid fun during these ridiculous stupid times?!
