About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of Meadow Tree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

This Week’s Presenter

Salazar chose this week’s art because she liked the straightforward approach of the portrait and she is interested in seeing how we interpret the equestrian style/menswear look.

The Artwork
“Portrait of Countess de la Maitrie in equestrian dress” by Charles Albert Walhain
Portrait of Countess de la Maitrie in equestrian dress
Oil on Canvas, 1910

Portrait of Countess de la Maitrie in equestrian dress is a 1910 oil painting by French artist Charles Albert Walhain (1877-1936). The Countess (1875-1943) would have been 35 years of age at the time this portrait was painted. She is wearing a traditional equestrian outfit in the style of her day and posing with her loyal little Dachshund in front of a body of water.

I have already planned, styled, and photographed my outfit for this challenge, but I have yet to sift through the pictures to see how my outfit actually looks. I am leaving for my annual winter break road trip in less than two weeks and spent yesterday morning photographing five different outfits for upcoming style challenges and posts this month.

If you want to join us for this week’s challenge and be featured with your art inspired outfit in Salazar’s review post on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, be sure to submit your photos to her at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by 10:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

Happy styling!

I love this painting, but I’m going to have to really work to come up with the just right outfit! Congrats to you on having it done. I used to have lots of outfits waiting for posts. I need to do that again. It gives you a measure of peace, right? I can’t wait to read about your road trip! I hope you’re joining me on the 10th, but I understand that you’re a touch busy!

I am hoping to join you on the 10th! But I will probably write my post that morning because that is how I have been doing everything lately…at the very last moment. I am happy with my outfit but it isn’t something I would really ever wear in real life. I look forward to seeing what you come up with! I am sure it will be fabulous as always!
