SIA Gallery of Style | “Autumn” by Giuseppe Arcimboldo

It is gallery time! Here is the round up of all the art inspired outfits submitted for this round of Style Imitating Art.

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarShelbee, and Marsha on Instagram or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. That being said, we would love to see more participants join us for our fun style challenges. Anyone is welcome to play along. Just watch for our Monday posts when we share the artwork, style an outfit inspired by it, and email it to one of the co-hosts to be featured in our gallery posts. We encourage you to invite your friends, too!

You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

“Based on the autumnal color palette and strong nature energy of the artwork, I knew I wanted to style my woodland critters T that is a favorite for late summer and fall outfits. I had a lot of pairing options for my top, but when I checked my outfit spreadsheet, I realized I’d never worn it with my brown jeans, which made them an obvious choice. I brought out an ancient pair of brown plaid sneakers for some low-key print mixing.  For my jewelry, I decided to make a layered necklace, memory wire bracelet, and earrings set inspired by the painting…which I called the Leafy Autumn collection. Art inspiring outfits and jewelry for the win!”

“At first, I was totally stumped about how to interpret this into an outfit. I mean, how on earth do you turn a man made of squashes and apples into wearable fashion? And that’s when it hit me — that the whole thing gave me serious Hobbit vibes! You know, that cosy, down-to-earth, nature-loving aesthetic full of muted tones, rustic textures, and a touch of whimsy. And funnily enough, that’s a look I’ve been quietly obsessed with for a while now, though I haven’t quite nailed it yet.”

“I knew I wouldn’t be able to go as literal as I’d like with this, so I simply brought out all of my most autumnal pieces and piled them on top of each other. I debated wearing my grape bunch brooch because the figure has some grapes on his head, but in the end, I went with this more subtle one. It kind of blends in with the pattern on my waistcoat as a nod to how all the elements in the painting all blend in together to form a cohesive whole.”

“I know you’ll be shocked at my admission. I have no prints with veggies on them in my closet! So, what’s a girl to do? Use the color story and lots of prints! I’m wearing a Kantha Bae dress over a mesh top from Banana Republic and a J. Jill skirt! I pulled it altogether with an obi belt.”
-Marsha
Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge
boho style, brown leaf print slip dress, orange floral kimono robe, thrifted long cardigan, thrifted style, tan Panama hat, thrifted brown floral scarf, brown floral cowgirl boots, boho fall outfit, Shelbee on the Edge
“I combined lots of fall colors and tones with a mix of autumnal prints and patterns including leaves, flowers, and the geometric print on my long cardigan which closely resembles the broken slats on the wooden vat from which the head emerges. I added some random object necklaces including a pumpkin necklace, an owl necklace, and a horn necklace. I even attached a fake pear to the belt that makes my hat band!”

I hope you all have enjoyed this round of Style Imitating Art as much as I have. If you would like to try one of these style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, October 27, 2025, for Salazar’s next art pick.
