10 on the 10th: November 2023-10 Favorite Things About Thanksgiving & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #678
It’s time for Marsha in the Middle‘s 10 on the 10th series. For this monthly series, Marsha usually shares 10 questions about a singular topic and invites us to share our answers in blog post form on the 10th of the month. Her questions are such a wonderful way to share more information about ourselves and to learn interesting new things about others. Anyone is invited to join and answer the questions. It is a great way to start new conversations, make meaningful connections with new people, and have a good hearty chuckle every now and then. For November, Marsha decided there would not be 10 individual questions but instead she has asked…

Shelbee on the Rags
I have been in creative overdrive for months, crafting works of art from rags. Yes, rags. Rags that I have been making from old clothing that was destined for a landfill. Saving as much as I can so as not to contribute to the environmental mess that the fashion industry continues to perpetuate. I am calling this art medium raggery and it suits my bohemian soul perfectly. It all began with my bohemian bedroom makeover when I made rag curtains out of strips of quilting fabric. For this first of my rag curtains, I bought new fabric when it was on a flash sale at JOANN for $2.99 a yard.…

Songful Style Link Party #21 | “Meet Virginia” by Train
It was my turn to choose the song for this month’s music meets style challenge and I went with an old favorite, Train‘s 1998 pop hit “Meet Virginia”. You can read all sorts of details about the song and the band in my post, Songful Style | “Meet Virginia” by Train. I have been listening to this song for 25 years and it only recently occurred to me how strongly I relate to this imaginary woman named Virginia. In fact, the lyric that hit me with the most profound punch was this one… "You see her confidence is tragic But her intuition magic" I have failed to listen to my…

How to Show Up for Fostered Teens
As a foster carer of teenagers, you will have a lot of unique experiences. It is a highly rewarding role in that you get to make an astounding difference, and though this could be said of any age, it feels a bit more apparent at times with teenagers. Why? Because this is the age where it either all comes together or falls apart, and while this feels like a major responsibility, it is also a great opportunity to make a real difference. If you are a foster parent of teenaged children, here’s how you can show up for your fostered teens. Be consistent. The first thought when fostering teenagers is…

Fall Road Trip: Great Smoky Mountains & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #676
I promised to share some photos from our recent road trip to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, so here they are! I tend to not take very many photos during vacations because I feel like photography inhibits my enjoyment and appreciation of being in the moment. Also, I find that my novice photography skills never do justice to the things I am photographing, especially when it comes to nature. You simply cannot capture the astounding beauty in pictures. Some things you simply must see with your naked eyes and not through the lens of a camera or a cell phone. But I did manage to take some photos.…
