Knowledge is Power: The Benefits of Bibliotherapy
Knowledge is power. Being informed of the things around us gives a certain amount of control. Education is the basis of progress. Observation makes us more aware. Awareness gives us an edge. Insight can make incredible things happen. And wisdom brings healing. None of us can do it alone. People need people. And sometimes people need a therapist. *This is a sponsored post. However, all thoughts, opinions, and experiences are entirely my own. I want to share part of my mental health story here…the beginning of it actually. When I was 26 years old, I left a marriage that was not working for me. This event quite literally turned me…

Celebrate Life, Donate Blood & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #64
I know that I have mentioned in previous posts that every Wednesday morning I have a standing coffee date with an amazing group of women at our local Panera. The attendees are different each week and we often have anywhere from 5-12 ladies who show up. It is a wonderful opportunity to gather together and find a lovely community of beautiful, empowering, and inspiring women right here in my little town. I have to send out a thank you to my wonderful friends, Lisa and Cathy (they are the sisters who were featured in my Forever Fierce campaign post), for inviting me and including me in this fabulous group. *This…

Inspired by Style Nudge: Camouflage, Denim, and Red
My obsession with camouflage dates back to some time in the early 1980’s when one of my oldest sister’s friends crafted her own prom dress out of this military designed pattern. There was something fascinating to me about the paradox between a print that is associated with combat, war, and soldiers combined with something so feminine and romantic such as a prom gown. And for 30 years, I have been searching fruitlessly for a dress like hers. Despite never finding what I was looking for, my adoration for camo print partnered with things of a more feminine nature continues from my childhood well into midlife. *This is a sponsored post.…

Introducing Shelbee Says…
My brain has been running on overdrive lately trying to decide which direction I want to go with my blog. When I started blogging nearly 3 years ago, it provided a platform where I could combine two seemingly unrelated topics…fashion and mental health. As I wrote more and more posts, I began realizing that these two topics are not all that unrelated after all, with fashion, style, and self-care being a huge part of my recovery from a decade long battle with Bipolar Disorder. Then recently, I partnered with an amazing company that offers affordable online counseling services. This partnership, along with some recent conversations with friends and family, really…

My Week in Review & Link Up On the Edge #86
I just got back from a whirlwind trip to the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. I have to be honest…I am so beat! I left Saturday morning and drove to visit my dear friend, Hallie, in northern New Jersey. I have not seen in her in probably 14 years and it was so great to catch up. She is a fellow fashionista and we just had a blast talking about everything from the business of style to parenting, marriage, relationships, moving, life goals, midlife, and everything in between! We covered a lot of ground in 6 hours. I am so excited that she has moved back…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: March 2018-Shoes
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after a year has passed, we decided to change the series a bit. You can choose yourself whether you want to…

DNA Discoveries & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #63
As I am preparing to head into New York City tomorrow for The Forever Fierce Meet Up, I am writing this post on Monday afternoon sitting at my best friend, Jane’s, dining room table. She lives in my home state of Pennsylvania and has very generously allowed me stay in her spare room while I have been cruising around the tri-state area for the past 3 days reconnecting with some old friends. Today, I decided to just hang at her house and catch up on some blogging work. She is in the other room on her computer working on genealogy projects. *This is not a sponsored post. As always, all…

My Life in Songs
Lately, I have been listening to a lot of music. More than I had in the past 10 years or so. I used to listen to music all the time, then kids came along and my favorite songs were set aside to make room for lullabies and kinder music. I didn’t realize how much I missed the power of music in my life and how many songs have touched me and moved me in so many different ways throughout my life. Recently, I have been allowing some of my favorite songs to speak for me when getting to know new friends, so I thought it would be fun to share…

Guest Post: How To Find the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Type
How To Find the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Type Guest post by Georgia Selih On a day as important as your wedding day, you want to look your absolute best. Not only because you will be in just about a million pictures, but also because you want to focus on the day, your feelings and your partner, as opposed to whether or not your dress is slipping down, rising up or does not fit properly. But unfortunately, the way we’d all love to shop – see something on the model and simply pick it up – doesn’t work in reality. We all have different figures, shapes and sizes…

Inspired by Not Dead Yet Style & Link Up On the Edge #85
So I got this dress from EvaTrends and when I first put it on, I did not look like the model in the product images. Not even close. In reality, I suppose I did not actually expect that I would look anything like the model but I guess I was just kind of hoping I would be so cute. I wasn’t. So I took it off and hung it at the front of my closet waiting for inspiration to hit. *This is a sponsored post. This dress was provided to me for purposes of this blog post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. Knowing that I…
