Next Up for Style Imitating Art…

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of Meadow Tree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

This Week’s Presenter

It is Salazar’s turn to pick. Since we have had some particularly challenging pieces recently, she decided on a more a conventional work with what she calls a “pretty” painting by Swedish artist Carl Larsson. Salazar is particularly drawn to “the soft watercolor tones, the delicate lines, and the contrast between the flowers and the woman’s dark dress.” All of these elements provide easy inspiration for outfit creations. Hop on over to Salazar’s post to read more about the artwork she has chosen and why.

The Artwork
“Karin at the Shore” by Carl Larsson
Watercolor, 1908

This 1908 watercolor depicts the artist’s wife Karin standing in the garden on a sunny day outside the home of Lilla Hyttnäs at Sundbornsån in Dalarna. The painting was purchased by the Swedish City of Malmö in 1914 and is currently held by the Malmö Art Museum.

I have some ideas stirring around in my head for this one. I just got a sundress in the same blue as Karin’s pinafore that might be perfect for this challenge.

But first I have 19 loads of laundry to finish after a weekend of festival camping! I am also going to be a day late on my Thrifty 6 post which is due today. I will have that posted tomorrow with my #SpreadTheKindness Link Up. In the meantime, go check out all of my thrifty friends in their Tropical Paradise looks!

If you want to join us for this week’s challenge and be featured with your art inspired outfit in Salazar’s review post on June 29, 2022, be sure to submit your photos to her at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by 10:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Happy styling!

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee

I really love this idea. As an aside, I had lunch in Malmo – you can get the train from Denmark – only takes about 20 minutes. Ha! Lovely city. #TheRandom

Oh, I think that’s the worst thing about a vacation…the unpacking and laundry! Hope you’re soon rested and done with all of that!! I love this piece of art…I mean love it so much I’d buy a print if I didn’t already have so many dang pieces of art (ask how I know…cuz I just packed the damn things)! In fact, I’ve already done my photo shoot for this! Call me organized…go ahead…I’ll wait!! Actually, with moving comes packing so I’m trying to get lots of photo shoots done and ready to go. It’s just the SIA and other challenges I’ve got to really think about! Today was a tough day as I packed up most of my closet (with Nigel underfoot…I don’t think he understood the true amount of clothing I’ve got until he watched)!

Oh my goodness, Marsha, you collect art and clothing! I would love to collect art and am slowly redecorating our home with meaningful pieces. As for the amount of clothing we have, I don’t think our husbands will ever really grasp magnitude of it! Haha. Jeff is getting a taste of the accumulation right now as I am doing a massive closet clean out. There are piles of clothes all over the upstairs and bags of clothes all over the downstairs! But I am slowly cutting each category of clothing in half. Then I will go through them again and halve them again. Eventually everything will fit into my closet room and I won’t need the basement storage! I wish you an easy transition as you move all your stuff! I hate moving and plan to do it only one more time in my life!

Thanks, Nancy! I have always been fascinated with name trends so I had to go look up the history of the name Karin. It is the Swedish version of Katherine and was much more popular 100 years ago than it is today, ranking as the 2,485th most popular girl’s name in 1907 compared to the 10,656th most popular girl’s name in 2021. So while it looks like a modern spelling of the Danish version Karen, it is actually much less popular today than the name Karen (which currently ranks as the 2,043rd most popular girl’s name). How is that for some name statistics?! Haha.
