Adventures in Thrifting Part 34: Another Parade of Elephants & Spread the Kindness Link Up On the Edge #830

Last Friday, I shared my thrifted elephant print outfit so I wanted to add to the pachyderm parade this week with another fun article of clothing that I found on a thrifting adventure this summer. Actually, I found these adorable gauzy elephant joggers on the same thrifting adventure as the elephant pants I featured last week. I also wore this outfit back in June before the summer heat had set in so it’s a lovely combination for early fall as well…if you live in a place where the autumn season can easily be distinguished between early, mid, and late fall. Where I live, we generally only get about 4 weeks of fall because September is still summer and the snow very often arrives by the end of October. While I’m wearing my favorite rope sandals here, we are definitely past the season where I can comfortably bare my toes.

Over the summer, I developed a bit of an obsession with lightweight jogger style pants. The black, gray, white, and burgundy color palette along with the adorable elephant print immediately drew me to these trousers and I knew they would fit perfectly into my current wardrobe. So I scooped them up, brought them home, and got to styling them for an early summer’s day in the North Country.

The pants definitely have a boho hippie vibe which suits my personal style aesthetic so I decided to pair them with an old ivory fringed poncho layered over a thrifted black tank top for modesty (the poncho is a bit sheer). Then I started adding some red and burgundy things like my rope sandals, my Panama hat, and a pile of thrifted necklaces. I also added some hints of turquoise in my earrings and necklaces to coordinate with the beaded band on my hat.

I’ve had this fringed poncho for nearly a decade but I don’t wear it often because the fringes are impractical and tedious for a normal day in the life of a busy stay-at-home mom. But I love it enough to keep it hanging around in my closet for when the opportunity arises to wear it. As long as I don’t have a thousand kitchen duties or other household chores, the fringes don’t get in my way. It’s also kind of a pain to wash which also deters me from frequent styling. I can’t just throw it into the washing machine with a regular load of laundry or else the silky tassels will turn into one big mangled knot of fringe. Instead, it has to be either hand washed or placed in a garment bag before machine washing and it always has to be hung to dry. In any event, I loved how the fringy poncho worked with my new-to-me elephant pants!

I’m sharing a lot more pictures than words in this post because it has been another crazy busy week. Ralph finished football season last week and he starts swim season on Monday. I thought we would have a nice relaxing break for the week but I should have known better! Between supporting other kids in their sporting achievements, staying on my kids to do their schoolwork, doling out dating advice, and dealing with broken retainers and busted eyeglasses, these kids and all their kid things have been keeping on my toes, for sure. Hopefully, I will be able to rest and rejuvenate this weekend, but I will be prepared for an anything goes situation!

I hope you all have a wonderfully relaxing or joyfully busy (whichever is best for you) weekend ahead.
