Yesterday was Jeff’s birthday and I shared the awesome Jerry Garcia pipe that I found on Etsy for him and gave to him a few days early. My birthday is on Monday and I also gave myself a gift a few days early so I am going to share them today. These rope sandals from Nomadic State of Mind are seriously the most amazing shoes I have ever put on my feet.

Let me tell you how I found them and give you my honest review. I was in need of some new sandals for summer festival season so I searched online for best hippie sandals and stumbled across Nomadic State of Mind, the home of vegan, cruelty free festival shoes, organic apparel, and artisan products.

I immediately fell in love with the unique style of their rope sandals as well as the tremendous color variety and the different rope designs they offer. But more so, I fell in love with the mission of this grassroots company. It was founded in the 1990s by Chris Anderson who initially ran the business from the back of a Volkswagen bus. While their North Carolina headquarters no longer operate from the back of a bus, Chris and his team have maintained a consistent focus on their philosophy of “If it is done right in the beginning, it will last a long time.”

I highly encourage you to visit their website because not only is the company filled with big environmentally conscious hearts, they have the best sense of humor that I have ever seen in marketing. I promise you, even if rope sandals aren’t really your vibe, it is worth a visit to their website for the smiles alone!

When I started shopping the different styles of rope sandals, I initially wanted the Mountain Momma Sandals in Brick and Camel but they were sold out in my size. So I bought them for my dear friend Becca and mailed them straight back to her in North Carolina from where they came.

Here are Becca’s feet in her new rope sandals. And that’s sweet Emmy Lou curled up on the chair.

Then I spotted the JC Sandal in Brick. While I really liked the contrasting brick and camel colors on Becca’s sandals, the solid brick is really pretty, too. When my new sandals arrived, I was pleasantly surprised that they do not use shoe boxes at all. Instead your sandals come in a recycled organic cotton mesh bag which is not only better for the environment but it also helps air out any stink that may get trapped in your rope sandals.

When I first took my sandals out of the packaging, my first response was that they didn’t look or feel very comfortable at all. And then I slid them onto my feet. Oh my goodness. I gasped right out loud. They feel like the best, warmest, tightest, lovingest hug on my feet. I don’t know if it’s because I have super sensitive feet from the Raynaud’s Disorder. Whatever the reason, these sandals are amazing and I want to own them in every single color. They even look cute with socks which is a requirement for me these days since my toes get so darn cold even when the weather is not.

And just so you know, I sought out and purchased these shoes with my own funds. I am not in any way affiliated with Nomadic State of Mind, although I wouldn’t mind being affiliated with them. But without an affiliation, I have no discount code to share. However, they do offer a discount if you join their email list and there is a current offer of 10% off purchases over $100.

Keeping in line with Nomadic State of Mind’s sustainable mission, I styled my new sandals with a mostly thrifted outfit. I just found this white tiered maxi dress from Zara and this gorgeous kimono on my last thrifting adventure in search of ballerina clothes. They paired so perfectly together with my new brick rope sandals. I added a red belt and red jewelry along with my favorite cowgirl hat. Then I grabbed my new Teddy Blake bag and then headed down to the river where Ralphie took these photos. Both of my kids just keep getting better and better on that side of the camera. I am so proud of them and so grateful for their willingness to participate in my blogging games. Although their willingness may be induced by the $5 per photoshoot they earn for 15 minutes of work!

Happy Birthday my Gemini twin!I love your new sandals with this whole ensemble – you look like the goddess that you are!
I’d love to have a few photographers like your sons, wish I lived closer!
Have a great weekend with lots of celebrating for you and Jeff!

Hope you have a great Birthday! Love your strappy sandals and the way you put your outfit together. Just makes me smile! I bought some lucky brand sandals before our vacay last month. They are a little boho and very comfy. Btw, you need to wear that hat to the Chris Stapleton concert!

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Tricia, thanks so much! This outfit really spoke to my boho soul, that’s for sure. I have a few pairs of Lucky Brand espadrille wedges from a few years back that are super cute and comfortable. I just don’t wear wedges that often because flat shoes are way better for festivals! I will definitely wear this hat to see Chris Stapleton. It is my best summer hat to keep the sun off my pale face and I wear it everywhere! Haha.

This whole outfit as a vibe. You look so ready for a summer festival. The name of the shoe brand is my fave because we are a family of nomads, Moving every 1–3 years.
Also, one of my sons has that Preston shirt too. 😁
And thrifting! I miss thrifting!! When I live close to my mom it’s such a fun thing to do together.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, April! I was loving the name of this company, too. I think I have always wanted to be a nomad but somehow I married a soldier who managed to be stationed at Fort Drum for 16 of his 22 years in the Army! I have only done one military move in 2013 from my hometown where my husband was a recruiter when we met to Fort Drum and we have been here ever since! As much as I have enjoyed NOT having to move every few years, I also missed out on a lot of cool experiences! But we have some seriously great thrifting here! How cool that your son is a Preston fan! Where are you stationed now?

Oh these sandals are so fantastic! I love them a lot. And what a beautiful colour! I wish you a fabulous birthday!! Are you going to celebrate it on the weekend?

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you so much, my friend! I love the color, too, and how perfectly my nail polish matches them! Haha. We had friends over for dinner last night for Jeff’s birthday but that’s all we really had planned this weekend. I am usually all peopled out after Jeff’s birthday that I only ever want to relax quietly at home on my birthday. So the rest of the weekend will be just getting prepared for our summer travels!

Thanks so much, Kathrine! I can’t get enough of these sandals. I have been wearing them every day! My kids are so funny about taking my pictures. They will get so excited for the $5 but then they want to snap 5 photos and be done in 30 seconds. I always have to chill them out first and explain that we need to take our time…a whole 10-15 minutes and do it right or I don’t want to do it all and they get no money. Now they sometimes fight over who gets to take my photos! Ha. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Aw, thanks so much, Jennifer! I can’t get enough of these shoes. I have been wearing them every day and I really need to get more pairs soon! I tried on a pair of Birkenstocks yesterday and they were no where near as comfortable as these rope sandals. I have been wanting a pair of Birks but now I don’t think I do!

Laura, thanks so much! I definitely need to get a black pair and a tan pair for more versatility! I think I’m going to order them today so I have them in time for the festival next month! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you, Lizzie! Geminis are the best! Haha. And two Geminis together is 4 times the fun! This is definitely my favorite style that speaks to my hippie soul and I think it will dominate my summer wardrobe this year. Especially after I get more rope sandals! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend.

Ooooo I just love these rope sandals! I’ll definitely check out their website (so glad to hear about Nomadic State of Mind’s sustainable mission – Vegan, Cruelty-Free Festival Shoes, Organic Apparel). How perfect they look with your beautiful outfit! What great thrifting finds, you’re my kinda fashionista!

As for footwear, I need a pair of water shoes so I can enjoy walking along the pebbles and rocks without hurting my feet.

Thank you so much for including me in your featured favourites!

Birthday blessings to both of you! Time to celebrate!!

Carmen, thank you so much! I am so in love with these sandals and this company! I even went searching for other rope sandal brands but I just keep coming back to Nomadic State of Mind because of their mission and their wonderful sense of humor. You can always win me over with both of those things! As for thrifting, it is my favorite place to shop for clothing and has been since I first discovered the fun when I was 14 years old. That’s 34 years of thrift shopping experience I have! I don’t know any good brands that offer water shoes but there are so many more sustainable and ethical brands now that hopefully you can find what you need with ease. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Happy birthday to the both of you! Those sandals look fabulous and I love the whole entire outfit you pulled together to go with them.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Lauren! I think is definitely going to be my summer style this year! Long dresses, kimonos, and rope sandals. Although I did just wear the rope sandals with flared jeans and they looked just as cute!

I do not know where to start, Shelbee! Everything about this is perfect!!! I love the white dress (I’m on a mission to find the perfect white maxi dress this summer. Add in that gorgeous kimono! And, then the sandals!! I’m going to have to check those out!

    Thanks for the link up!!

    https://marshainthemiddle.com/

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Marsha! I love the way this outfit came together, too! My only complaint is that I have no bras that work with the square neckline of the dress so the best I could do was nude and let it peek out a little. I tried to cover it with the kimono, but that kept slipping open at the top. Oh well. I don’t mind purposely visible undergarments, but it drives me nuts when they are not supposed to show and then they stick out! I am about ready to order 2 more pairs of rope sandals for myself, a black pair and a tan pair with rubber soles. This pair only has a rope sole which I am afraid to wear in the rain!

Thank you, Michelle! This outfit absolutely reminded me of something you might wear! And I definitely knew you would dig these sandals. I just ordered black ones and tan ones today so stay tuned for those!

Awww, thanks so much, Patrick! Someday I will get to take a stroll down Haight St. again looking like a hippie…and when I do, I’ll be meeting you for coffee! I hope you had a fantastic weekend!

Spectacular outfit, it comes together so well! I’d never heard of the brand Nomadic State of Mind, I thought the headline was referring to you perhaps yearning for nomadic ways! There’s a definite nomad / prairie look going on. Hope you had a great birthday Shelbee. Thanks for linking.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Gail! I loved the name of the company so much I figured it would make it a catchy blog title all by itself! And while I do sometimes yearn for nomadic ways, I also am very much a homebody. I did have a wonderful birthday, thank you! I hope you are having a marvelous week.

Shelbee, what a beautiful duster, the fringe is amazing. I have never seen the rope sandals before, very interesting, are they comfortable on the bottom of the feet?
Thank you for sharing each week on Oh My Heartsie Girls omhgww, your posts offer fashion ideas for our visitors!
Hope you have a lovely week, where ever you are!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Aw, Karren, thanks so much! Oh my goodness, these rope sandals are the most comfortable things I have ever put on my feet. They don’t look like they would be, but the rope is soft and the perfect amount of snug. The soles on these are also rope so they do start to fray a bit on the bottom but the sole is very thick and sturdy and comfortable all around!

Fab outfit as ever. Love the pop of colour with the handbag and I’m sure I’d think those rope sandals wouldn’t be comfy at all. Thanks for joining in with #pocolo
