A Super El Niño Autumn & Spread the Kindness Link Up On the Edge #832

This Super El Niño climate pattern that is impacting the central and eastern Pacific Ocean is causing the sea surface temperature to be approximately 3.6°F (2°C) higher than normal. That may not sound like a huge temperature increase but it’s enough to dramatically affect weather patterns throughout the entire world. In the northern United States where I live, we are expected to see a much warmer winter with much less snow and rain. However, I’m not buying it. If a cold snap makes its way over Lake Ontario, particularly when the weather is warmer than normal and the lake doesn’t freeze, it can quickly create unpredictable lake effect snow bands. Sometimes the warmest winter days end up being the snowiest!
But the snow hasn’t arrived yet and that makes me happy. In fact, as I’m writing this post on Wednesday morning, it feels much more like early summer than mid-fall with a high temperature of 75˚F (23.9˚C), which is 28˚F higher than our normal temperatures for this time of year. I’m enjoying the mild weather more than you know because winter always comes where I live even during a Super El Niño.

While I’m not wearing sandals today (but I definitely could do so comfortably), this warm weather pattern makes it the perfect opportunity to share this outfit that I wore back at the end of July on a cool midsummer’s day.
Do you remember these orange striped beach pants that left me feeling like Rainbow Brite? They were the perfect partner for this newly thrifted oversized beige sweater. The neutral color and open knit allow this sweater to be worn year round with creative layering. In the summer, a tank top or bralette is all you need as an under layer. In the spring and early fall, a short sleeve tee works well. And in the winter, a long sleeve shirt covers all your skin so the open weave isn’t too drafty.
For this outfit, I layered a very old orange short sleeve tee underneath which looked cute enough on its own. I wish I had taken some photos without the sweater, but I didn’t so you’ll have to use your imagination.
Whenever I wear a longer top in a solid color, I find that it’s more flattering to add long necklaces that break up the gigantic swath of one color to create an elongated visual. For this look, I kept my jewelry in orange and ivory tones with an old pair of orange leather tassel earrings, a few seashell necklaces, a short orange shell pendant, and a long orange and silver pendant. All of my necklaces were preloved which makes my thrifty heart smile. I finished the outfit with an old tan straw hat and my furry ivory Birkenstocks which transition perfectly into fall weather.

While it’s definitely not my favorite outfit that I’ve ever worn, it was cute, colorful, comfortable, and completely practical for a day hanging around the house. I’m not sure if I’ll keep the sweater though as the sleeves are super long and they refuse to stay rolled or pushed up and I don’t think the drop shoulder is very flattering either. I’ll probably try to style it a few more times before deciding its fate. Until then, it will remain in my closet room with all of the other magical things!
