A Comedy of Errors & Spread the Kindness Link Up On the Edge #831

Before I tell you about my outfit, I need to outline the recent comedy of errors that I’m currently living through. All proof that my shirt is a liar…because things do happen and sometimes they aren’t that great!
It all began at the end of September when my 13 year old son received some terrible text messages from a classmate all because he turned down some girl who wanted to date him. It was a super stressful week as I had to navigate all the avenues required to properly report the incident. As far as I’ve been told, disciplinary actions were taken and everything has been calm and quiet since the incident. Thankfully.
But that incident kicked off a month long comedy of errors. While stressful and annoying, I’m not really complaining because my life is good. However, even good lives can deliver irritating things that we are forced to handle. Because that week in September was so stressful, it impaired my immunity system and I ended up with a rotten head and chest cold that was full blown for two entire weeks. I knew once the worst of it had passed, I would be tormented with a nagging cough for at least another two weeks and I was correct. The cough is very annoying and it continues to disrupt my sleep leaving me on the crankier side of things.
Then last Saturday, I spent the entire day on my feet not wearing the most supportive footwear. All throughout the day, I could feel my lower back getting tenser and tighter. I kept telling myself to stop and take a few minutes to stretch. But I also kept ignoring myself and not heeding my own warnings. Boy, did I regret that move!
By Saturday night, I couldn’t sit, stand, or lie down comfortably. When in the seated position, I couldn’t even lift my toes off the floor. Like my legs just wouldn’t do what my brain was telling them to do. And that was kind of freaky!
Since I clearly was refusing to listen to the messages my body was sending me, my body decided to sit me right the f*ck down. So I got straight to the business of healing. Treating severe lower back tension requires ice, heat, and lots of rest with periodic movement in between rest periods. By Tuesday, the lower back tension was the most severe all while I was still contending with a nagging cough.
And here’s where it starts to get comical. Every time I felt that annoying throat tickle that triggers a coughing fit, I braced myself for the amount of pain about to hit my lower back. In that pain, I was completely unable to clench any muscles in my abdominal region. As a result of the coughing fits combined with the lower back pain, I peed my pants twice on Tuesday and pooped them once! That was enough for me to ask for a little help from my friends because frankly I was afraid to leave my house for fear that I would cough and soil myself in a public place! (I hope you aren’t feeling sorry for me at this point because this is some downright funny sh*t! The only appropriate response is laughter.)
On Wednesday, my back was starting to feel almost recovered and then the next comedy came. I was sitting on the couch with the heating pad in place when I heard all of four of my cats in a hissing fight near the front door. There is an orange tabby cat in our neighborhood who visits our front porch frequently for food and treats. We have named her Kevin and my cats actually enjoy her visits. They meet her at the front door and they have cat conversations. They’ve never really been aggressive towards each other so when I heard the cat commotion, I wasn’t sure what was going on but I was certain it couldn’t be Kevin. It wasn’t Kevin, but another outdoor cat that I didn’t recognize. (I have since named that cat Janet.)
Shortly after the cat commotion began, I heard a loud slam against my front screen door that was immediately followed by very startling cat hisses and snarls. The slam against the door and the cat fight sounds were so loud that for a moment I thought they had gotten the door open and the outside cat got into my house. In that moment, I leapt off of my heating pad so fast that I completely wrenched my left hip, sending my back into terrible spasms that had me laughing through my tears. Because c’mon already, universe! I’ve proven that I can handle it all so won’t you just leave me alone for now.
The universe said, “Nah. I’m having too much fun!” And now I have my dreadful period. Nothing Ever Happens. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Now onto the outfit.
My 15 year old, Archie, purchased this “Nothing Ever Happens” tee shirt for himself during the summer. He ordered an XL but he received a 2XL which was way too big for him. As it turns out, he actually needed a size Large which the company sent to him free of charge and did not want the 2XL returned.
At first, my husband was going to keep the 2XL so he could twin with Archie but the tee shirt fabric is much heavier than Jeff prefers and the oversized boxy fit was not at all flattering. Since I couldn’t unload the unwanted 2XL tee shirt, I decided to make another DIY tee shirt poncho so I could twin with Archie! By the way, we have not twinned in our “Nothing Ever Happens” shirts yet.
For this DIY tee shirt poncho, I used another poncho for the sleeves. I had two of these sheer scarf ponchos hanging around my closet for years and I rarely ever wore them. I used the solid pink one as the sleeves for my Watertown Cyclones tee shirt poncho so I decided to use this burgundy paisley scarf poncho as the sleeves for this tee shirt poncho.
I styled my new tee shirt poncho with these fabulous lightweight chambray trousers that I picked up for our summer road trip. I found these cuties in the juniors’ department of Kohl’s and they quickly became my favorite pants. They were so great for the summer heat and humidity that I went back and bought them in white as well.
Since I took these photos in the summer, I wore my black Salt Water Sandals, a black straw sun hat, a newly thrifted black and silver necklace, and a new pair of silver and gold earrings. However, the heavier weight of the tee shirt will allow me to style this poncho well into the fall and maybe even early winter with some creative layering.

“Nothing Ever Happens” is not a graphic that I would have chosen for myself…because I know that there is always something happening. But why waste a perfectly good garment when I can upcycle it into something grand?
