Walmart Pajama Style

As an environmentally conscientious person, I try to avoid indulging myself with inexpensive fast fashion brands…unless, of course, I have thrifted them. However, I am a human with all sorts of cravings and desires that are sometimes difficult to resist. I mentioned in a previous post that I have been doing most of my grocery shopping at Walmart lately. The early morning hours have proven to be the best time for a slow browse through the abundant aisles of that giant store. Sometimes I enjoy a jaunt through the home goods section, other times it’s clothing and accessories for my kids, my husband, or myself. I recently picked up sandals for Archie and Jeff and a Linkin Park tee shirt for Ralph which is his new favorite top.

I recently shared several outfits featuring newly purchased Walmart pieces including these striped pajama pants, these white gauzy swim suit cover pants, and these peach pucker beach pants. Additionally, I cleaned out my pajama drawer and refilled it with these super comfortable Joyspun pajama sets. Originally, I only bought the lounge pants in verdigris green. I ended up loving them so much that I went back and purchased the matching top as well as three more sets in black soot, blue lark stripe, and dark iris. The modal fabric is so stinking soft and cool that I don’t want to sleep in anything else this summer! Then I added this black onyx maternity robe by Ingrid & Isabel. It’s what I have been wearing every evening when I change from my daytime clothes to my nighttime loungewear.

As I kept finding myself in the pajama section of Walmart, eventually I strayed to the nightgown area where I saw the light pink floral slip dress (my bottom layer) on clearance for $13. It is definitely intended for sleepwear as the bodice is way too low cut for daytime wear (for me personally) but it made the perfect layering piece to go underneath the bright pink and yellow floral muumuu that I found in the same pajama section at the end of last summer. I couldn’t resist the crazy bold floral printed muumuu for a clearance price of $7. So I bought it and stuck in my closet until it became warm enough to wear it.

The muumuu is cute enough on its own by the light pink floral sticking out the bottom makes it better, in my pattern obsessed opinion!

My white sandals are also a new Walmart purchase. A few weeks ago I was wearing an outfit that was begging for flat white sandals. It’s hard to believe but I didn’t have any flat white sandals so I decided to check out the Walmart shoes. I have been wanting a new pair of Birkenstocks and haven’t been able to decide on a color so I figured I would try these $13 plastic sandals first to see if I was going to wear white sandals with enough frequency to justify the cost of Birkenstocks. I ended up wearing these white Walmart sandals almost every day after I purchased them. The older I get, the harder it is to wear cheap shoes and I found the plastic was making my feet grossly sweaty as well. So I took the leap and bought new white Furkenstocks! But I still have occasionally been wearing these cheap ones as well. As it turns out, flat white sandals were very necessary for my summer wardrobe!

For my accessories, I layered on three newly thrifted necklaces…a bright pink medallion, a bright yellow short beaded necklace, and a bold yellow and orange cross necklace. Keeping with the vibrant color palette, I added my pink butterfly wing earrings (a flea market find), my bright pink fedora with the big fuchsia flower band, and my rainbow straw bag.

While this may not be the most figure flattering outfit, I don’t care! I love the bright bold colors, the fun mix of floral prints, and the long flowy layers for these hot humid days that are upon us. Plus the obnoxious level of in-your-face color and print distracts from the unflattering silhouette. Nobody has told me that I look like a giant billowy whale yet, they mostly just smile at me. Because how do you not smile when this colorful burst of joyfulness meets your eye?!

Keeping it on the edge,
