Grateful-Thankful-Blessed DIY Frankenstein Dress & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #680
I have another Frankenstein dress to share! Like yesterday’s Thankful & Blessed Frankenstein dress, this one is also constructed from a graphic tee that I received three years ago as part of a brand collaboration and a really old skirt that I have never worn. Certainly, I should have purged the skirt years ago but it’s another print that really appeals to me and kept me holding onto it. I am ready now, however, to start a major midlife purge of my closet but I want to do it in a sustainable way. In an effort to save my unworn and unwanted wardrobe pieces from Destination Landfill, I have been finding ways to…

Thankful & Blessed Frankenstein Dress for Thanksgiving Day
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends! I am wishing you all a day filled with love, laughter, and lots of gratitude. Today, I am grateful for very many things. You know, the traditional gratitude things…my family, my friends, my health, my home, my security. And my sewing machine! Because my sewing machine has helped me to save so many things from Destination Landfill. A pile of graphic tee shirts that I never reach for and a heap of maxi skirts that don’t fit have been turned into a unique collection of adorable dresses that I love to wear. Do you remember my DIY Frankenstein dress from late summer?…

Shelbee on the Rags
I have been in creative overdrive for months, crafting works of art from rags. Yes, rags. Rags that I have been making from old clothing that was destined for a landfill. Saving as much as I can so as not to contribute to the environmental mess that the fashion industry continues to perpetuate. I am calling this art medium raggery and it suits my bohemian soul perfectly. It all began with my bohemian bedroom makeover when I made rag curtains out of strips of quilting fabric. For this first of my rag curtains, I bought new fabric when it was on a flash sale at JOANN for $2.99 a yard.…

Let’s Get Down to Business & Your Own Twist Link Up #60
This month’s Your Own Twist honors Business Women Day which recognizes and celebrates the contributions made by women in business. While the first Business Women Day wasn’t officially celebrated until 1982, the holiday’s roots go back to September 22, 1949, when Hilary A. Bufton Jr. and three Kansas City businesswomen founded the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Business Women Day is celebrated annually on September 22, the anniversary of the ABWA. When I first decided on this theme, I had every intention of putting together a very business-y outfit. A blazer, some nice trousers, a fancy pair of heels. But then I didn’t feel like it. I was unsure how to proceed…

DIY “Frankenstein” Dress: My Coffee Needs Coffee & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #669
My coffee needs coffee and a whole bunch of bright colors. Thanks to Orly of The DIY Designer, I have found a way of repurposing my wardrobe into things that I will actually wear. With a bin full of unworn graphic tees and a pile of skirts that are too large or too unflattering, I had quite a few pieces to use in the crafting of some “Frankenstein dresses”. My oldest son recently coined the term when I made my first Frankenstein dress and it cracked me up. So now this is what I will forever call these cute DIY tee shirt dresses. By the way, a Frankenstein dress is…

Weekend Fun at Stony Fork Music Festival & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #667
We attended our second Bluegrass festival of the season last weekend and a great time was had by all. Outdoor camping adventures are always interesting. No matter how prepared you think you are, something always comes up that you are not prepared for. Fortunately, we tend to embrace things of this sort as memory makers. Who really remembers the mundane things that go as expected anyway? It is the unexpected things that we have to thrive through that stick in our memories. The last time I attended a festival at Stony Fork Creek Campground was Hickory Fest in 2019. That weekend had its own share of mishaps that created fond…

Floral Nightmare to Technicolor Dream
Remember this floral nightmare of a dress that I shared with you two weeks ago? I paid $6 for this horrid frock during my birthday thrifting adventure. Not only is it hideous but it is also five sizes too big. You may be wondering why in the world I would buy something that I consider ugly that is also too big. So I’ll just go ahead and tell you. I simply could not resist the fabulous oversized technicolor floral print. So I brought the dress home with high hopes of turning it from a nightmare into a dream. I think I succeeded. But I will let you decide for yourself!…

New Home Decor and Upcycle Projects & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #664
I have more updates to share in my bohemian bedroom wall decor as well as a few clothing upcycle projects that I have been working on this summer. I am very pleased with my progress even though I work at a slug’s pace sometimes. But hey, slow progress is still progress! In my bedroom, I completed two more walls with some DIY love. The first is another hat wall to which I added a rope picture hanging thing. I had planned to print some family photos to hang here but then I remembered a book of silly vintage postcards that I have had for years. I have used a lot…
