Fantastic Role Models for the Budding Fashionista

Role models aren’t always easy to come by in the fashion world. Of course, that’s not to say that the industry isn’t jam-packed with inspirational figureheads. However, a seemingly dark undertone to the glitz and glamour of the fashion sphere can sometimes make these figures difficult to find.

Fantastic fashions and iconic looks aside, the world of the runway in particular has long been rife with questionable antics including ongoing weight debates and even the need for substance use treatment programs for some of the industry’s best. Many of the unsavory standards and machinations in the fashion industry can make it difficult to revere the people in that field, but do not lose faith. Whether you are looking for inspiration to begin your own career in fashion or you simply want a style icon that inspires your own sartorial creativity, some of the incredible people who have made their names in fashion do stand out above their peers by continuing to rise above the controversial industry quibbles. This article will discuss three prominent women in fashion who would make fantastic role models for any budding fashionista.

1. Anna Wintour

Having served as the editor-in-chief for Vogue since 1988, it’s hardly surprising that Anna Wintour is at the top of the list. Wintour can be classified as a powerful fashion role model owing to the iconic changes she has made in the way fashion is portrayed. She was instrumental in the move toward including prominent well-known women on her magazine covers rather than limiting the cover features to only models.

Wintour is also now using her fashion prowess to coach a new generation of fashionistas and potential style icons with her Masterclass sessions which provide crucial industry insights. She is not all about just fashion and focuses on ethical practices while empowering the younger generation to do better which arguably makes her one of the best modern role models for anyone looking to make their mark in fashion right now.

2. Lisa Fonssagrives

Officially believed to be the world’s first supermodel, Swedish-born Lisa Fonssagrives also provides a strong foundation of inspiration for your own fashion goals. Far from the highly competitive and sometimes harmful world of fashion modeling today, Fonssagrives set her own standards when doing photoshoots for top publications like Vogue and Town & Country.

Her understanding of her own body and how to best compliment it made her a natural in front of the camera. Some of the shoots done with her husband, Irving Penn, are recognized as the best, most natural looks in fashion history. What better goal to aspire to then authenticity in your fashion photography?

It’s nice to see a picture of Anna Wintour without her sunglasses! That has always bothered me! It would be fun to take a Master Class with her, but I think I’d be way too intimidated and come away feeling like all of my clothes are just so very wrong!!!

    Thanks for the fun read!

Very interesting post! Honestly, I pay little attention to world fashion models, because I don’t like how the models are pushed to be so extremely thin it’s unhealthy. So these women are a breath of fresh air. My fashion role models have been the fashionistas I’ve met while blogging – women such as yourself. I’ve learned so much from each and every one I follow. And I’ve appreciated the support from this little community as I trial and error my way through the learning process.

Thank you, Michelle! Honestly, I am not all that familiar with fashion models or fashion magazine people either. I didn’t really even know who Anna Wintour was until I started writing this post! But if she is making changes for the better in the industry than I can definitely get behind her. Most of my favorite style icons come from this blogging community as well because we are the real women making real statements!
