SIA Gallery of Style | “Four Women” by Fernando Botero

It is time for the next SIA Gallery of Style, featuring outfits inspired my latest pick of artwork. Thank you so much for joining us!

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarShelbee, and Marsha on Instagram or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

Marsha of Marsha in the Middle
Marsha in the Middle
Marsha wore a vintage April Cornell dress with greens, pinks, and all kinds of colors to represent the plethora of hues in the painting. Then she added a green Gudrun Sjoden slip because she kept seeing lots of green even though there isn’t that much in the painting. (Blame it on the booby lady, Marsha!) Because Marsha loved the red shoes on one of the women, she paired fun red slip on sneakers with this beautiful dress. So pretty!
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey
14 Shades of Grey
Salazar based her outfit mostly on the booby lady in the green dress as well. She also included elements from the outfits of the other ladies. The polka dots represent the lady on the far left and Salazar’s red flower brooch represents the lady in the yellow printed dress. Salazar always has the perfect brooches to complete these art inspired looks!
Sally of Within a World of My Own
Within a World of My Own
Sally was inspired by the painting’s color scheme and the women’s dresses which led her to select a skirt in shades of orange, soft green, maroon, and black. Her green open weave sweater was based on the woman in green but Sally added an olive tank underneath for 100% less scandal in her outfit. She left the tank showing as a band below the sweater to mimic the yellow frill on the maroon dress. Sally’s scarf is a nod to the coral/red-orange dress. She was going to wear tights like the woman in yellow but much to her surprise and delight it was too warm for them. Fabulous combination from Sally! That lady in green really did inspire us all!
And Me!
I, too, was inspired by the green dress lady. It seems her breast exposure caught the attention of all of us! I layered three dresses together to create this outfit inspired by all four women in the painting. I created an unlikely color combination of green and yellow and red which are the dominant colors in the artwork for this super artsy outfit.

I hope y’all have enjoyed the outfits we have created inspired by this brightly colored painting. If you would like to try one of these art inspired style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, April 15, 2024, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose the artwork.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee
