Songful Style Link Party #22 | “Flowers are Red” by Harry Chapin
Marsha chose Harry Chapin‘s 1978 song, “Flowers are Red”, for our November Songful Style challenge. The song shares the story of a little boy who is drawing flowers in many colors on his first day of school. Until his teacher tells him that it’s not time for art and that flowers are red and leaves are green and therefore he shouldn’t be using any other colors in his picture. How obscene! You can find the lyrics and other details about this song and the artist in this post. I had never heard this song before Marsha introduced it for this challenge. While it is a lovely song with a very…

Grateful-Thankful-Blessed DIY Frankenstein Dress & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #680
I have another Frankenstein dress to share! Like yesterday’s Thankful & Blessed Frankenstein dress, this one is also constructed from a graphic tee that I received three years ago as part of a brand collaboration and a really old skirt that I have never worn. Certainly, I should have purged the skirt years ago but it’s another print that really appeals to me and kept me holding onto it. I am ready now, however, to start a major midlife purge of my closet but I want to do it in a sustainable way. In an effort to save my unworn and unwanted wardrobe pieces from Destination Landfill, I have been finding ways to…

The Thrifty Six Celebrate Absurdity Day
It was my turn to choose this month’s Thrifty Six theme and when I realized that our scheduled post date fell on National Absurdity Day, I jumped on the opportunity to share some of our most absurd thrifted finds. The Absurdist Movement began in the post-World War II era when nuclear bombs and concentration camps were tremendous clouds of darkness still hanging over humanity. In connection with existential and nihilistic philosophies, absurdists believe that while human tragedies may have some undisclosed meaning, we will likely never know what that meaning is. Therefore, they choose to construct absurd meanings for things that happen and things that humans do. Human nature is…

Minimalism at Its Best (or Worst) & Your Own Twist Link Up #62
This post is much more about minimalism at its worst! Because I don’t do minimalism which has caused me to fail my first style challenge in 8 years. That’s not a bad track record considering this is the second to last post of five plus years of this series and my first failure. Yes, I do recognize that I have completely and totally failed at creating a minimalist outfit. I am not a minimalist when it comes to my wardrobe and sartorial choices. I never was and I doubt I ever will be. Talk about being outside your comfort zone. A minimalist outfit would never do for me. I would…

Shelbee on the Rags
I have been in creative overdrive for months, crafting works of art from rags. Yes, rags. Rags that I have been making from old clothing that was destined for a landfill. Saving as much as I can so as not to contribute to the environmental mess that the fashion industry continues to perpetuate. I am calling this art medium raggery and it suits my bohemian soul perfectly. It all began with my bohemian bedroom makeover when I made rag curtains out of strips of quilting fabric. For this first of my rag curtains, I bought new fabric when it was on a flash sale at JOANN for $2.99 a yard.…

The Thrifty Six: Inspired by Taylor Swift Eras
Taylor Swift has been making headlines everywhere because of her current Eras Tour as well as her budding new romance with Kansas City Chiefs footballer Travis Kelce. So it seemed like perfect timing when Grace chose Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as our inspiration for this month’s Thrifty Six style challenge. Last October, I shared another Taylor Swift inspired outfit for a Songful Style challenge but none of those outfit components were thrifted or preloved. So I was excited to create another Taylor inspired look using only secondhand or preloved items. The Eras Tour takes us on a journey through Taylor Swift’s 17 years in the music industry with a tiny…
