Over the Rainbow Halloween Costumes & Your Own Twist Link Up #37
It is almost time for the spookiest day of the year as I am sure you know because your social media feeds are probably overflowing with all things Halloween. While many people may not celebrate Halloween, I am beginning to view it as one last easy holiday before the craze of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations is upon us. I do have to credit my kids in part for helping me to become more enthusiastic about this seemingly pointless holiday. But I also have to credit sweet Monica as well. Because before Monica prompted me to join her with my Halloween costume, I had only ever shared two Halloween…

What to Wear for a (Sex) Interview
*Disclaimer: This post discusses sex and sexual fantasies (as well as sexual realities) on a general level. It does not include graphic details but it does use language that is of a sexual nature. My intent is to share my story not to offend or persuade anyone. So if you are highly uncomfortable with intimate topics like this, I will not be offended if you skip reading. However, if you are only mildly uncomfortable, it may be worth reading just to view a different perspective. Back in June, I decided it was finally time for this 47 year young woman to reclaim my sexuality and enjoy my body and the…

The Thrifty Six are Veiled in Velvet & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #245
“A throne is only a bench covered with velvet.” Napoleon Bonaparte While I have never sat upon a throne of any sort, covered in velvet or not, I have been obsessed with the luxurious fabric that makes a bench a throne for as long as I can remember. In fact, velvet is probably the first fabric that I differentiated from all other fabrics at a very young age. I remember my mother surprised me for Christmas when I was 12 with a handmade quilt that she made for me out of dark emerald green velvet. The quilt backing was constructed from shiny gold satin and the whole blanket felt amazing…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Halloween
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye. The theme for October is appropriately Halloween because Nancy…

All About Shackets | October Stylish Monday Link Up
The shacket is one of the newest hybrid terms in fashion right now. A combination of a shirt and a jacket in a culture where we have become too lazy to pronounce full words. I started wearing oversized flannel shirts as jackets back in the 1990’s at the height of the grunge era in music and fashion. I don’t think we were as apathetic 30 years ago as we are now and so we had no problems referring to our wardrobe pieces using full untruncated words and phrases. While shortening phrases into hybrid terms for ease might be a silly notion, newly formed words often find their way straight into…

Complimenting Strangers & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #243
Have you ever received a totally unexpected compliment from a stranger? It really boosts your mood regardless of the mood you are in. If you are feeling kind of crummy, a random compliment from a passer by might be just enough to start you smiling for the day. And if you are already feeling fabulous, kind words from a fellow human will simply solidify that fantastic feeling for the rest of the day. I was wearing a really fun dress the other day (I will share it tomorrow for this week’s Style Imitating Art post). While I was walking home from school with Ralph, we passed by a small cluster…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Halloween & Link Up On the Edge #264
October 1 is the official start of Halloween season in my house. However, we haven’t yet pulled out all of the spooky porch decor. That is our plan for this weekend…shopping for new scary porch things and then creating our best front porch gory creep-ville to date. I never really got into the Halloween spirit until a few years ago when my kids began to show a certain passion for this holiday and now I can’t be stopped! I am having so much fun embracing the Halloween vibe…on my porch and in my closet. So for October’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book theme, Nancy and I have chosen Halloween. That can mean…
