SIA Gallery of Style | Sunday Morning by Norman Rockwell

I am so excited to share my first Gallery of Style for Style Imitating Art! I am also super grateful to all of the fabulous humans who played along and made me feel so very welcomed as the newest co-host for this inspiring series.

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The Inspiration Artwork

You can read why I chose this specific piece as my inspiration artwork hereHint: It was inspired by my father.

Michelle of My Bijou Life

Michelle was intent on creating a brand new outfit for this challenge, but then she realized she already had the perfect one for matching the father’s attire while still being dressed up like the mother and children. I love the bold stripes and bright red accessories. It really is the perfect outfit for this gallery!

My Bijou Life
Marsha of Marsha in the Middle

Marsha found her inspiration in the father’s pajama top as well as the daughter’s pleated skirt and this whole challenge took on her a trip down Memory Lane as well. In her own words, “What I always think about with church from when I was a kid is that we wore gloves to church. I wish I’d had a pair of opera length gloves for this!” Although she had initially planned a blue and white skirt outfit, “Then this strange little top came in the mail Friday. I’m only 5’1″ and this is short on me! I don’t know how I’m ever going to style it closed unless I lose lots and lots of pounds to wear some really straight white jeans with it. Until then, a shacket it is!” And it works wonderfully as a shacket especially paired with that fabulous pleated skirt! Also, how great is Marsha’s accessory game?!

Suzy of The Grey Brunette

Suzy ended up focusing on the reds and greys in the painting and reflected the stripes from the father’s trousers with her adorable Gryffindor tee. Wanting to include elements from the churchgoing mother and children, Suzy added a dressy handbag and bold red headband for a fabulously creative and stylish outfit. I love it!

@bu_terka also picked up on the stripes of the father’s trousers in her striped blouse. I love the bright pop of red that she added with her neckerchief as well. She is also a passionate thrifter like me…both her top and blazer were preloved! Do you see those adorable blue socks peeking from beneath her trousers, too? Every detail is on point! Such a cool outfit.

Sally of Within a World of My Own

Sally was also inspired by the father’s pajama look and she created a super cute disheveled menswear inspired outfit. That hint of leopard in her shoes is so fantastic! And I love how that style of shoe so closely resembles the father’s slippers.

Reni of Reni’s Odd and Sods

Reni really nailed her interpretation with these fabulous handmade striped trousers and self made red wool cardigan. Her pants are the perfect recreation of the father’s pajama pants. I absolutely love this whole look!

Mike of PostCard Purposes

Mike is joining us a little late but that’s okay because late is better than never. And I do appreciate that he took the time to share for my first time co-hosting. To illustrate just how special his submission is, I am going to share Mike’s own words,

“I know that I’m way late to submit a photo for this, but this is (was) the photo that I was going to use for your SIA Choice, Sunday Morning by Norman Rockwell. In truth, I just took this one today, as my family and I were about to head out to my dad’s funeral service (beautifully done by the way), but I felt that it is vaguely similar to how I used to do back in the day when I would get ready for church service, just like in Rockwell’s painting; dressing in my Sunday best. Again, I know that I’m way late for a submission, but I really wanted to be a part of your very first SIA hosting project, and I would have been, had it not been for the unforeseen event…So I sent you the photo that I would have used for that. Better late than never, right?”

Sending lots of healing energy to you, my friend.

The Co-Hosts
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar chose to focus on the grey and red color scheme from the outfits of the mother and the children as well as the dad’s robe. What really caught her attention was the subtle colors in the painting in the flowers on the window sill and the hats worn by the mom and daughters. She included her gorgeous sweater vest and flower brooch to reflect those softer hues. I absolutely love the contrast between the darker and lighter colors. And Salazar’s pattern mixing is so good in this outfit!

Terri of MeadowTree Style

Terri concentrated on the father’s pajama outfit as well and pulled together a really bold and beautiful red, white, and navy outfit. I am swooning over her red beret and fabulous red shoes!

And Finally Me!

I also looked to the father for my outfit inspiration since the whole choice of artwork was inspired by my own father. I combined navy blue striped pajama style trousers with a white shirt dress that reminds me of a men’s nightshirt. I layered on an oversized red cardigan and cinched it with a skinny scarf belt to mimic the father’s robe. And then I made my kids recreate the image with me. They were not pleased, but I am!
