Songful Style Link Party | “When Doves Cry” by Prince & The Revolution
My musically inspired friends and I are back with the sixth edition of Songful Style, a monthly style challenge that encourages us to use music as our sartorial inspiration. We not only learn about new (and old) songs which is so valuable for expanding our music knowledge but we also have the opportunity to view our wardrobes in entirely new and creative ways. Suzy chose this month’s song, an iconic one from 1984, that many of us are certainly familiar with, When Doves Cry by Prince & The Revolution. For more details about this song as well as videos and album covers, visit my post, Songful Style | “When Doves…

Mental Illness as Enlightenment & Link Up On the Edge #305
I just ran across the following paragraph that I had added to my running list of potential writing topics a long while back. I figured since I have nothing in mind to write about today I might as well address this topic. Are people with bipolar disorder closer to the universal energy field? We go up and down with the tides. Lunatics were called such because it was believed that their moods were affected by lunar changes. Maybe mental illness is actually less of an illness and more of a state of higher evolution. Maybe what we call mental illness is actually the very thing that makes us more in…

Watermelon Days & Your Own Twist Link Up #46
I have a question… When do you start on red and stop on green? When eating a watermelon! Did you know that July is National Watermelon Month in the United States? With the first big watermelon harvest happening just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, watermelon has become synonymous with summer celebrations in America and a favorite treat of many with the average American consuming approximately 17 pounds of watermelon each year. Now I wonder if that’s 17 pounds of the fleshy fruity center or if that just means 17 pounds of watermelon including the rind that I toss in the trash. Did you know that the rind…

How to Wear Meditation Beads & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #284
Last month, I shared my Journey to Tranquility with Zen Spirit Malas where I featured my meditation beads (mala) that were created specifically for me by Katherine of Katherine’s Corner. The Shelbee Mala is available for sale on her website Zen Spirit Malas along with many other beautiful designs of meditation beads and spiritual jewelry. Katherine will also create custom meditation beads based on your personal needs. I still haven’t gotten my regular meditation schedule set nor have I really practiced using my beads yet, but I have been wearing them often because I get this wonderful sense of peace and calm the moment I slip them around my neck.…

The Thrifty Six at a Garden Party
It was Emma’s turn to choose this month’s Thrifty Six theme and since July is her birth month (Happy Birthday, Emma!), she decided to have a little garden party with us to celebrate. Whether it’s a birthday, a wedding, an anniversary, or just a beautiful summer’s day, why not get dressed up in a pretty frock and take a stroll, have a picnic, or celebrate something else wonderful in a gorgeous garden somewhere. We headed down the street to the garden at the Jefferson County Historical Society where we spotted one of the gardeners planting flowers throughout this lovely outdoor space. You can even see some her unplanted flowers scattered…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Jewelry with a Story & Link Up On the Edge #304
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye. The theme for July is Jewelry with a Story.…

Summer Wedding Outfit & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #283
My best goddess girlfriend invited me to be her plus one at a wedding on Sunday afternoon. Two of her beautiful goddess friends were finally getting married after a two year postponement due to Covid. In the course of those two years, the brides had moved to Texas but their wedding in New York was already paid for so the show had to go on despite the fact that about a third of their invited wedding guests could not make it to the ceremony two years later. They had seats to fill and too much food that would be wasted so I got a last minute invitation that I was…

The Healing Power of Gratitude & Link Up On the Edge #303
I have been wanting to write this post for quite some time now but have been lacking the motivation to actually sit down and start the words flowing. Then I received the little nudge that I needed this week when I read Jennifer’s post, How To Manifest Easily, where she lists the practice of gratitude as the first of eight tips for manifesting exactly what you want. “Practicing gratitude helps shift the focus from a lack mentality to a grateful one, which leads to attracting better circumstances. Pause and take a moment to notice the things that bring you joy.” Curated by Jennifer In my experience, not only does the…
