Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Nautical & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #225
For this month’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, Nancy and I have chosen Nautical as the theme. Since June really kicks off the summertime in the northern hemisphere, we thought it would be fun to share any of your favorite (or least favorite) outfits or wardrobe pieces that feature aquatic or maritime themes, anything that makes you feel like you are soaking in the warm sunshine near the sea. And while these types of prints do have a more summery feel, we don’t want to leave out our friends in the southern hemisphere either. Lots of maritime towns are in very cold climates so style this theme in whatever way suits you.…

Adventures in Thrifting Part 10: Shades of Blue, Big Earrings & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #224
I haven’t been thrift shopping in a few weeks, but I have a pile of really cute dresses that I picked up the last time I made my thrift shop rounds. I was waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before going bare legged and it finally has so I can wear my new preloved summer dresses now. I am all about loose flowing lightweight dresses when the weather starts to get warm. They are so comfortable for all day wear. And when I am just hanging around at home, which I usually am, I can remove my bra and let the girls swing free underneath and no…

Spring Hiking on the Black River Trail & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #223
Remember all the complaining about the weather back in the early part of spring? Well now that we are 2/3 of the way through the spring season, it has finally decided to arrive this week. But we did have a few really beautifully mild days in the beginning of April that we took great advantage of with the children. It was precisely the second weekend in April when we experienced warmer temperatures (around 70˚F / 21˚C) and ventured out for some outdoor family activities. This week is the first week that we are seeing these temperatures with daily consistency and I am so ready to bare my painted toes! But…

A Very Special Mother’s Day Gift & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #222
Mother’s Day is one of those holidays that has a tendency to just pass me by. After my mother passed away in 2006, the next few Mother’s Days just sort of made me sad and so I ignored the holiday altogether. Then I became a mother myself just before Mother’s Day in 2011. But still, I felt indifferent at best to this annual celebration of mothers. I still don’t make any fuss about the day nor do I really want much of a fuss made about me on Mother’s Day (although I joke and tell Jeff all day long that the day is about me)! But every once in while…

Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Tulle & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #221
It has been a super crazy busy weekend so I never managed to get around to doing any of my blogging things. So let me take this moment to remind you all that it is time again to send in your photos for the Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. This month we are looking for your favorite (or least favorite) things crafted from Tulle. But before we get there, let’s first quickly examine the nature of tulle. Tulle is a stiff, lightweight, netted fabric that can be made from various fibers such as polyester, rayon, silk, or nylon with polyester being the most common fiber used. Tulle is mostly used for veils,…

Ditsy Florals for a Ditzy Gal & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #220
I know it is the very end of April and you are probably thinking I should be less layered up. But let’s face it, it will not be warm enough here for true spring fashions until June at the earliest. In fact, just this morning my weather app was predicting snow flurries again this weekend…when the calendar flips to May. So bear with me for a few weeks longer and I will start to show a little more skin…it will be very pale pasty white skin, but a little exposure to the sun will do my translucent epidermis a world of good! Until then, however, I have been combining some…

The Rise of the Flying Phoenix & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #219
“Hope rises like a phoenix from the ashes of shattered dreams.” S.A. Sachs “The phoenix must burn to emerge.” Janet Fitch “And when all that was left was ashes, she would again clothe herself in flame. Rising from the dust of her past to rekindle the spark of her future. She was a Phoenix, her own salvation; rebirthed, renewed, resurrected.” LaRhonda Toreson I recently presented my husband with a nonsensical argument that proved that I am the sun. It went something like this…I cannot sleep if it is light out. Naps never happen even if I wear a sleep mask over my eyes and pull the blackout curtains tight. My…

What to Wear for an Early Spring Hike & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #217
I am back after a relaxing and productive holiday weekend and I wanted to share a bit of our Easter activities with you. We are not a religious family and so we do not plan much for the Easter holiday. Instead, we view it as an opportunity to spend some family time celebrating the hopefulness that comes with the arrival of spring. The day began for the boys with a little sweet treat and some cash to spend on video games. I also had promised them that we would try Dee’s Coke with Peanuts so I figured that would be a nice Easter surprise as well. We tried the Coke…

It’s Okay to Be Sad & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #216
I spotted this new graffiti art the other day and it immediately caught my attention as I nodded my head in agreement. Indeed, it is okay to be sad. I have felt more sadness in the past year than I have felt in probably the past 10 years combined. And I kept fighting against it so much that I was fueling its power. Instead of taking my own advice that all of our feelings, even the negative ones, are valid and deserve to be recognized. But then I quickly remembered that I am feeling very much the opposite of sad these days…since Spring has finally arrived and is breathing new…
