Thrifty Finds & Your Own Twist Link Up #47
I know I talk frequently about the benefits of thrift shopping. But I can’t help myself. It has been a lifelong passion of mine and I seem to grow even more devoted to my focus on a preloved wardrobe with each passing year. I do still buy new clothing at retail prices because I have an addiction and I struggle to resist all the cute new things that are released into the fashion market every season. At this point in my life, I certainly have enough clothing in my wardrobe to never need to buy anything new ever again. So recently I have been only indulging my shopping whims if…

The Thrifty Six in Jumpsuits
It was Grace’s turn to choose a style theme for August’s thrifty collaboration where 6 international fashion lovers join together to show you how to be stylish on a budget while also doing something good for our planet. Tossed away clothing drastically contributes to our landfill problem while the overproduction of clothing required to sustain our throw-away culture dramatically impacts our climate change issue. Too many clothes, and too many new clothes in particular, are a real problem. I am just as bad as any other consumer who has fallen prey to the fast fashion monsters. It is an addiction that retailers tapped into a few generations back and they…

Random Friday Stuff & Link Up On the Edge #306
Y’all, it has been a super crazy week and I am completely wiped out. Ralph wanted to participate in Clayton’s Theater Week which is a week long summer theater program for children ages 5-16 held at the beautiful Clayton Opera House in Clayton, New York, situated on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. The opera house is just one block from the Harbor Hotel where I just attended a wedding wearing this same kimono. I was really excited when Ralph expressed an interest in something other than video games and quickly signed him up for stage crew before he changed his mind. The Young People’s Theater of Clayton is…

Songful Style Link Party | “When Doves Cry” by Prince & The Revolution
My musically inspired friends and I are back with the sixth edition of Songful Style, a monthly style challenge that encourages us to use music as our sartorial inspiration. We not only learn about new (and old) songs which is so valuable for expanding our music knowledge but we also have the opportunity to view our wardrobes in entirely new and creative ways. Suzy chose this month’s song, an iconic one from 1984, that many of us are certainly familiar with, When Doves Cry by Prince & The Revolution. For more details about this song as well as videos and album covers, visit my post, Songful Style | “When Doves…

Mental Illness as Enlightenment & Link Up On the Edge #305
I just ran across the following paragraph that I had added to my running list of potential writing topics a long while back. I figured since I have nothing in mind to write about today I might as well address this topic. Are people with bipolar disorder closer to the universal energy field? We go up and down with the tides. Lunatics were called such because it was believed that their moods were affected by lunar changes. Maybe mental illness is actually less of an illness and more of a state of higher evolution. Maybe what we call mental illness is actually the very thing that makes us more in…

Watermelon Days & Your Own Twist Link Up #46
I have a question… When do you start on red and stop on green? When eating a watermelon! Did you know that July is National Watermelon Month in the United States? With the first big watermelon harvest happening just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, watermelon has become synonymous with summer celebrations in America and a favorite treat of many with the average American consuming approximately 17 pounds of watermelon each year. Now I wonder if that’s 17 pounds of the fleshy fruity center or if that just means 17 pounds of watermelon including the rind that I toss in the trash. Did you know that the rind…
