The Other Ugly Dress Transformation & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #653
Before I get to the second ugly dress transformation, I must first wish my amazing husband (and photographer) a very happy birthday! We will be celebrating both of our birthdays (mine is on Tuesday), as well as Memorial Day, quietly at home on this holiday weekend. We are expecting gorgeous spring weather which is perfect for a birthday holiday weekend staycation! And with such beautiful weather on the horizon, my mind is racing with spring and summer outfit ideas so I do think I will be playing some dress up and pretending I am a fashion model over the weekend as well. I also have to make the curtains for…

Style Imitating Art: Floral Forms by Emil James Bisttram
“Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Miranda Priestly, The Devil Wears Prada While it may not be all that groundbreaking, I do love a floral overload especially when spring finally arrives in the cold North Country, so I was very excited to style an outfit for this week’s art challenge. Keep reading for more details… About Style Imitating Art Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Going Goth & Your Own Twist #56
It seems there is a holiday to celebrate every random thing you can imagine from Star Wars to sports cars, from opposites to copycats, from music to fruit. These random silly holidays provide me with much inspiration for this monthly style challenge series. And I do have a lot of fun researching obscure celebrations and turning them into fashion prompts for Your Own Twist. So let’s get to it. Did you know that May 22 is World Goth Day? I did not until I was searching for ideas for this month’s style prompt. And what an interesting holiday it is. World Goth Day originated in the United Kingdom in 2009…

5 Ways to Build Emotional Resilience
Emotional resilience is the degree to which can handle stressful life situations while remaining positive and upbeat. It does not mean you are unaffected by the stress or change; it just means you have handled similar situations before. Learning techniques for building emotional resilience can turn difficult circumstances into growth opportunities. The following five techniques may be useful for managing the next obstacle life places in your path. 1. Find your purpose. Those without a strong feeling of purpose are more likely to be rocked by certain challenging situations in life. When you are rooted in your passionate purpose, it provides a certain amount of stability when you encounter difficult…

The Thrifty Six: The Long and Short of It
The long and short of it. It’s a phrase that I never use but when it came my turn to choose a theme for our next Thrifty Six style challenge, this 6 word string randomly kept popping into my head. I wasn’t even sure what it meant by definition, but it seemed great for a fashion prompt because it could be interpreted in so many different ways. What does it mean exactly? According to Merriam-Webster, it is a phrase we use “when making a statement that is brief and that tells someone only the most important parts of something.” It basically refers to giving the gist of something without sharing…

Because I’m Here and I Can & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #650
Last weekend, I went to see Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, the new movie based on Judy Blume’s 1970 award winning coming of age novel. It was a fantastic movie that made me laugh, cry, and wax nostalgic. If you are a woman of a certain age who grew up in America, then you probably know this novel and would really enjoy this film. I do love a story that pushes the boundaries of appropriate and apparently discussing our periods and our boobs and sexual desires was and still is highly inappropriate in our puritanical world. A world that seems okay with violence but not at all okay…

Date Night with the Dead & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #649
Jeff and I had a long overdue date night two weeks ago when the in-laws were here to visit for Easter and Spring Break. We took advantage of the overnight childcare and headed off to Funk ’n Waffles in Syracuse for their weekly Dead Night. We learned of this Monday night ritual when we went to see our dear friends of Fireside Collective perform at this venue a few months ago. It’s a really tiny, dark, and dingy bar that is attached to a waffle eatery with just a big black curtain separating the two sides. You are welcome to grab some waffles and eat them in the bar area…

The Magnificent 8 are Blazing Through Spring
Oh my goodness, blazing through spring, indeed! When this group of eight magnificent ladies chose our quarterly style theme, we had enthusiastically settled on the punny title of Blazing Into Spring. But as I sat down to write this post, it occurred to me that we are already very much into spring at this point, with a third of the season already in the past. I think it may have still been winter when we chose our preposition. So I changed my preposition. Because we all have the right to whichever prepositions suit us! What better thing to wear for a style challenge called Blazing Through Spring than, yep, you…
