The Thrifty Six: Inspired by Frida Kahlo
Emma chose this month’s thrifty theme…Inspired by Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter known for her colorful self portraits and paintings depicting her experience with chronic pain. I cannot remember when I first learned about Frida and her impact on the art world. It was probably in some introduction to art history class some time during my schooling days. Maybe in middle school, high school, or even college. I do remember taking art and art history classes at each of those educational levels. My suspicion is that I learned about Frida earlier than college because it is knowledge that I have had for so long that I assumed it was common…

Inspired by Sports Cars & Your Own Twist Link Up #54
International Sports Car Racing Day is this Saturday, March 18, so we thought it might be fun to find our sartorial inspiration at the racetrack, or, in my case, the car dealership on a Sunday when they are closed. This racy little holiday always falls on the third Saturday of March to coincide with the 12 Hours of Sebring sports car endurance race held at the Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida. Ironically, in the wake of my divorce when I was 26 years old, I purchased a white convertible Chrysler Sebring with a white rag top. Oh, it was a such a girly car, perfectly suited for a 26…

Look Alike Day & Your Own Twist Link Up #43
You might be wondering about Look Alike Day. You also might be thinking that Monica and I look nothing alike in that cover image. Although Monica and I have inadvertently dressed alike for previous Your Own Twist themes (my favorite time was when we both wore giant unicorn heads), this time we were not meant to look like each other. National Look Alike Day happens every year on April 20. I do not think it is a coincidence that it falls on 4/20 because it is the silliest of silly holidays but it is also one of the best holidays. This holiday celebrates those individuals who look like another person.…

Many women regard earrings as an essential accessory that they wear every single day. As a daily worn item, most women likely own a few pairs of earrings in various designs for different types of occasions. If your jewelry box is looking rather bare or you have just become bored of your current collection of ear candy, you may want to consider visiting reading jewellery shops by going to Jacobs The Jeweller and adding a few new earring designs that are trending this year. 1. Drooping Diamonds Every woman deserves to have a pair of diamond earrings that dangles provocatively alongside her cheek and sparkles all night long in royal fashion. You…

What Would Nancy Wear? & Link Up On the Edge #268
Back in the beginning of September, I had written a guest style post for my dear friend Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style while she was on holiday. I wanted to pay homage to my sweet friend and so during my outfit creation process I kept asking myself the question, “What Would Nancy Wear?” and that quickly became the post title for her blog. In that post, I shared the story of how Nancy and I first became acquainted in the world of blogging, how we began our multiple collaboration projects, and how we have developed a very strong and meaningful friendship despite the 3,600 mile (5,800 km) distance between us.…

Inspired by InStyle Magazine: Jodie Comer in Givenchy
I have not shared an Inspired by post since the beginning of January when I featured a thrifted men’s shirt styled as a dress that was inspired by my dear friend Grace of Graceful Rags. I suppose the reason it’s been so long since my last post is that I have been feeling very uninspired lately…as I am sure many of us are as we continue on in this weird, weird world of social distancing, half covered faces, and soul sucking isolation. Then a few weeks ago, Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style (not Jodie Comer) shared a post, Easy Ideas about Recreating Outfits From a Quirky Fendi Ad, featuring…

Inspired by Graceful Rags: Preloved Style in a Checked Shirt
Why is getting dressed becoming more and more challenging with each week that passes spent in lockdown mode? It really is quite the struggle to get myself motivated to create interesting outfits and smile happily for the camera when all I really want to do is cuddle up in my jammies, pull a blanket over my head, and sleep until spring. The winter blues are a very real thing for me and many others, but this winter seems to be even lousier than winters past. With no where to go and no one to see, I am trying to prevent myself from disappearing into obscurity. Although disappearing into nothingness sounds…

Inspired by a Christmas Gift: Tan Plaid Scarf
Well, it has finally arrived…the last day of this miserable year. And with every ending comes a new beginning. Hopefully this new beginning will not be as tainted with tumult as the end (and the middle) of 2020. The snow has started arriving here in the North Country and it brings such an innocence and peace with it as it blankets the earth in newness symbolizing that all seasons come and all seasons go and the world just keeps on turning. Some days, some weeks, some years, the best we can do is hope we don’t fall off this spinning globe and disappear into the abyss. For 2020, I am…

Inspired by Confessions of a Montreal Styling Diva: Creative Styling of a Plaid Wrap Scarf
I know it’s Christmas Eve and all, but we celebrated Christmas last weekend and now I am just relaxing in the afterglow of the exhaustion that comes with holiday festivities. Many of you may be just gearing up for your food prep and putting the last minute touches on your holiday plans. I wish you ease and joy in your preparations and hope that your Christmas Eve is filled with peace and love. Since I have nothing left to plan or do for this holiday season, we are preparing for a quiet night at home with some egg nog and other holiday sweet treats in front of the television watching…

Inspired by Ephemera: Yellow Velvet Skirt and Bomber Jacket
I feel like maybe I am finally getting a bit of my mojo back…at least my sartorial mojo. But I’ll take whatever I can get these days. When it comes to finding outfit inspiration, there is definitely no shortage of fabulously stylish women in the world of blogging and other social media platforms who deliver us the most delicious confections and savory combinations to keep these long winter days of isolation a little more fashionable and interesting. As most of us have been spending our days in our most comfortable loungewear, I’m not sure if that is the image that we really want to put forth into the world. I…
