SIA Gallery of Style | Wave I & Wave II by Vanessa Barragão

I am loving the beautiful results of this art inspiration on our outfit choices this week. The soft blues and creamy whites are really appealing to my sartorial senses as the heat and humidity are on the rise leading up to the summer solstice. I know I complain a lot about the cold, the snow, the rain, and the mud, but now it is the season when I complain about the heat and humidity. I guess the weather will not ever satisfy me. But if the weather is my only complaint, then I guess I’m still winning at life!

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarShelbee, and Marsha on Instagram or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

Sally of Within a World of My Own

Sally created an outfit in the cream and soft green color scheme of the artwork with a lace-front top to provide some extra texture. She also wore DIY layered necklaces and bracelets in a range of natural materials and finished off the look with a quick pair of the cutest shabby lace earrings, which took her less than 5 minutes to make!

Marsha of Marsha in the Middle

Marsha chose a double denim outfit for this prompt because she never wore double denim before and wanted to give it a try! Plus the light wash denim blues mimic the hints of blues in the artwork. The gorgeous gilet that she has layered over her double denim features texture and fringe that match the textile art and the straps of her sandals resemble braids, adding a bit more texture to this lovely outfit.

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar styled a beautiful lace-trimmed blouse with a beige striped skirt to mimic the texture and colors of the artworks. She wore green heels to represent the touches of green and blue in the art. And she had the perfect brooch once again…a crocheted one…for even more texture in an already lovely outfit.

And Me!

An ivory lace dress, a macrame belt, and a sheer robe were all the textures I needed to put together this Wave inspired outfit. To represent the bits of blues in the artwork, I accessorized with my teal cowgirl boots and turquoise jewelry.

Although I am an avid lover of all the bright colors, I am loving these soft neutrals for a chic summertime vibe. I hope you all have enjoyed this round of Style Imitating Art as much as I have. If you would like to try one of these style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, June 23, 2025, for Salazar’s choice of our next art inspiration.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee

I love the Gallery of Style just to see how everyone else thinks! There’s a bigger difference in how we did, but those soft hues tie them all together! Thanks, Shelbee, for giving us this inspiration! And, yes, I would love to own a piece of her art, but I fear I’d have to sell a body part to afford one!

Thank you, Marsha! I really enjoy seeing all of our different interpretations in one place. It is so interesting to see the differences in our focus and how that translates into our wardrobe. Not only would it likely cost a small fortune to own a Vanessa Barragão original, but you need a very large wall to hang one on as well! Although I can picture one hanging on the largest wall in my living room. How cool would that be?

I love that all of the participants interpreted this beautiful, unusual piece of artwork so differently in their own way! You look positively ethereal in your tiered ivory dress. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for including me in the sandals challenge a few posts back. Enjoy your week!

Thanks so much, Di! I love this dress but rarely wear it for some reason. I think it’s the high neckline that bothers me. I need to stop buying things with high crew necks because I never like them. But I tend to make compromises that I shouldn’t when something is as pretty as this dress!

What a collection of dreamy looks. And the art is equally dreamy. I tried to find some information on the art – are these pieces brooches? or some kind of fabric art or weaving? Whatever they are, I like them. Can imagine wearing one as a brooch on my denim jacket.

I know you like colors and prints but goodness you look smashing in this monochromatic outfit. Love the dress – give me ’80s Stevie Nicks vibes. And the boots!! Yes, please, all day long.

Can you imagine Sally whipped up those earrings in 5 minutes!!?? What??? Her jewelry is something special. Love Marsha’s denim on denim with the long duster – creates such a long, lean look. And Salazar – always has a brooch for every SIA.

Aww, thanks so much, Leslie. Actually, these are humongous wall hangings that measure like 15 feet across. But mini versions as brooches would be really special, too. I know you already the other post about the art so I don’t need to explain more. Comparing me to Steve Nicks is like one of the best compliments ever! I have always been inspired by her amazing style and if I am able to capture just a tiny bit of her magic then I am happy. Isn’t Sally so creative and talented. I wish I could whip up the perfect jewelry for every outfit the way she does. And Salazar’s brooch collection is truly envy worthy! I hope you are enjoying these warm summer days, my friend.
