Third Take on Tieks: Double Dotting & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #751

I wanted to share this third styling of my new vegan Tieks last Friday but Mercury was in retrograde and had other plans for me. Mercury’s effects have seemed to calm down now that it has exited its retrograde period and computer things seem to be going much more smoothly as a result. I used to fight against the impacts of Mercury in retrograde but I have learned that fight is fruitless and it is better to just put the computer down and wait for things to right themselves.
Although the retrograde period ended earlier this week, it did not do anything for our weather. Not that I expected it would. Mercury controls communications not weather. And the weather has a mind of its own that can’t be controlled anyway. We just got hit with about 5 inches of snow on Monday with more forecasted for next week, thereby inhibiting my ability to wear my fabulous new ballet flats. But I do keep trying.
Whenever I accept a product for review, I do like to make sure that it fits into my lifestyle. I am not really big into wearing something one time and then ditching it. It is too wasteful and so very bad for the environment and the bank account. Since these shoes cost a decent amount of money, I want to be darn sure that I am wearing them. Plus they are the most comfortable ballet shoes I have ever owned in my entire life. And I have owned a lot of ballet flats in my lifetime. These dotty beauties definitely take the cake! You can read my full review here.

I recently layered this polka dot nightgown underneath a “trench coat dress” but only the hood was visible. So I wanted to show what the nightgown actually looks like. It doesn’t look much like a nightgown at all actually. In fact, the baby doll style with the high waist is really uncomfortable without a bra and I don’t tend to wear a bra with my nightgowns. So this nightgown gets translated to a casual lounge dress every time I wear it.
I liked the idea of pairing polka dots with my dotty Tieks so I created this super casual and cozy outfit combining black leggings and my favorite yellow cardigan with my sleepwear. Because black on black outfits never photograph well, I also added a bright turquoise scarf for a little color injection to help break up the column of black. The turquoise scarf helps to highlight the sole of my Tieks as well as the bits of teal and turquoise that appear in the dots on my shoes, the dots on my “dress”, and the stitching on my sweater. I accessorized with my ivory horn necklace, ivory earrings, and my grandmother’s old knit beret.

While this is definitely not one of my favorite outfits ever, it was good enough for lounging and choring at home on a cold and rainy weekend. Plus what’s not to love about pajama clothes?
This outfit also made me realize how much I adore ballet flats worn with leggings or some other kind of skinny pixie style pants. The combination always gives me Audrey Hepburn vibes and makes me feel super feminine. I previously styled my Tieks with wide legged jeans and a colorful tunic as well as with a patchwork skirt and kimono combination. Come back next week to see how I paired my polka dot Tieks with a very colorful mostly thrifted outfit.

What do you think of wearing pajamas as clothes? How about pairing polka dots with more polka dots? Does black on black work for you or do you share my struggles with monochromatic black outfits? I would love to hear your thoughts…the dottier they are, the better!

Ahhh, it looks like your snow is about over for the year, I see many walks ahead of you! Have a great weekend and thanks for hosting.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Aw, thanks so much, Melynda! But alas, there is still snow forecasted for us next week. We won’t be in the clear until around Mother’s Day. I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend!

I’m deep into my A-Z challenge of drawing Fluevog shoes (putting the final touches on tomorrow’s K post) and footwear is certainly on my mind!
Also embroidering shoe art – stabbing fabric multiple times with a sharp needle is helping me cope with the current state of the US. ARGH!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Yay footwear! As much as I am loving these dotty flats, I am hankering hard for a new pair of cowgirl boots! Haha. I love this idea of embroidering shoe art! I have been deep into weaving rag rugs. I find all of these “crafting with my hands” activities to be very cathartic and a great distraction from all the crazy in the world!

Yes, the hand crafts are a lifeboat in these troubled times.
I found I was getting extra agitated over everything and then realized, oh yeah, the current state of the country is bonkers.
Maybe I’ve calmed down a bit… yesterday I gave most of my students A grades on their homework. I felt like Oprah – you get an A, and you get an A, and YOU get an A!

Hahaha, I bet your students really appreciated it! We do what we have to in order to keep our sanity in tact!

The yellow cardigan + aqua scarf is such a good color combination! The polka dot flats are as cute as can be, and I definitely am seeing the Audrey vibes with the leggings.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Sally! I really like the yellow and aqua together, too. There are a bunch of different colors woven into the sweater that make it really fun to style with all sorts of different colors. I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend!

You look like an adorable woodland pixie emerging from the trees in this photo! I would have never known that your lounge dress was a nightgown if you hadn’t mentioned it, so why not wear it during the day? Those polkadot Tieks are so cute, I think they will prove a great buy once the snow stops falling and the weather dries up. As always, thanks for sharing and for hosting the link up. Hope you have a great weekend!

Di, thanks so much, my friend! I have no issues wearing clothing in ways not originally intended! No need to box ourselves in with labels like nightgown or robe, right? Since I wear robes all the time, might as well get the nighties out in the spotlight, too! Ha. I am excited to actually wear these cute shoes for more than just photoshoots. They will be perfect on summer days when my toes aren’t properly manicured! Have a lovely weekend!

Aw, thanks so much, Marsha! I am really surprised by how easy these polka dot shoes are to match with things in my wardrobe. I thought they might not be as versatile as they are turning out to be!

Another really, really cute outfit! You nearly have me convinced to splurge on a pair of tieks; they’d be great to pack in my suitcase for “after hiking.”
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Joanne! I am a little shocked at my desire to keep wearing these shoes. They are like slippers on the feet and would be perfect for post-hiking! If the style fits your aesthetic, then I think they are definitely worth the price tag.

I have worn mine on the warmer days. They feel like wearing slippers don’t they. Thank you very much for the feature! See you on Tuesday!

They really do feel like slippers on the feet! So they were perfect to wear with a nightgown. Ha. I am looking forward to Tuesday, my friend! Enjoy your weekend.

Looking very nice and I think that ballet flats are perfect with leggings or tights. Not that I know anything about fashion. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

Thanks, Patrick! You know more about fashion than you think you know, you know?! Hahaha. Have a fabulous week ahead, my friend!
