The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Pink

October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month so we decided to feature our favorite (or least favorite) wardrobe pieces in shades of Pink. The pink ribbon is the internationally recognized symbol of support for people with breast cancer. It was first adopted by the Susan G. Komen Foundation in 1991 as a way to raise awareness and promote early detection of the disease. If you are a woman of a certain age, annual breast exams are recommended. I am currently playing phone tag with my local women’s wellness center to schedule my mammogram. I usually go in October every year because it’s easy to remember to get it done during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So if you haven’t yet, schedule yours now! (Edit: I am scheduled for a Halloween mammogram on the morning of October 31. I am considering getting some pumpkin shape nipple covers just to give the mammogram tech a giggle!)

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two of your Good (or Bad) Buy items that fit the stated theme. We ask that you also provide a short description explaining if the item you are sharing was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to (formerly known as Bad Buys). Nancy and I will both publish a round up post featuring all of the submissions on the 15th of each month.

Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description via email. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome! We will give you the theme for the next month at the conclusion of each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month.

If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post. If you don’t see your photo in either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions get lost in the shuffle.

“I love a ton sur ton look, like you can see on my blog. And pink is family from burgundy, so it can only look good together in my head. The skirt I just sold though. It is a very heavy one, a bit scuba material. And the pleats are so hard to iron. And it was a real bubblegum pink, which I actually don’t like that much. But it did come with pockets. Nevertheless it was a Good-Bye.”

“I bid my soft pink sweater Good-Bye last winter. I loved the color, and it was a versatile piece in my wardrobe, but over time I became less able to tolerate the scratchiness. The It’s a cotton/nylon blend, so I don’t know why it made me so itchy, but even with a long-sleeved t-shirt layered underneath, it was just too uncomfortable. It was a $25 Loft purchase from October 2016 that didn’t quite hit my 30 wears and <$1 CPW (cost per wear) goals. I ended up with 23 wears and $1.08 CPW, which isn’t bad.  And it’s taught me to adopt a Zero Tolerance Policy for sweater scratchiness!”

“The star of this outfit is a bright, shocking pink blouse with knotted and draped waist detail, and an unusual asymmetrical hem. Wearing it in this outfit with black straight leg trousers. I would consider this blouse a good buy, as I love the striking color. It is not a very good candidate for layering, but it’s a statement piece all on its own! When I am in the mood for some cheerful dopamine dressing, this is a great choice!”

“I’ve had these pink ankle length pants for several years now and I get so much use of them all spring, summer, and even fall. They pair perfectly with my tank sweater and booties for a more fall look. They were such a good buy!”

“I’ve become a huge lover of pink (considering it was a color that was too girly for me 15 years ago).
This pair of bright pink suede pants was thrifted a couple of years ago, and I adore them. Especially paired with black.”

“Here is my photo for pink! It’s from earlier this year for a Style Imitating Art challenge, Portrait of the Painter Anton Peschka. I’m wearing a beautiful layered kimono from Kantha Bae, and my hair is pink, too! I honestly didn’t plan that!”

Up Next for November: Slingback Shoes!

Nancy had suggested Slingback Shoes as a prompt months and months ago but we seemed to never come around to it. Finally, we have added this feminine strappy style of shoe to our Good Buy/Good-Bye list and we invite you all to join us next month with your favorite (or least favorite) Slingback Shoes.

All you have to do is take a photo or two and email them to us with a brief description about your submissions and whether they are Good Buys or a Good-Byes. You are welcome to submit two photos if you’d like to be featured on both blogs. Please email your photos and descriptions by the 10th of November to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com so we can add you to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book.

*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for this series.

Pink really is so pretty in all its shades! Everyone looks lovely. I’ll check my closet but I’m 99% sure I don’t own any slingbacks so I’ll probably just pop in and be a spectator next month.

It is all so pretty! Thanks so much for joining us for this round. If you check out how slingbacks are defined on wikipedia, you be surprised to find that you do have some in your closet! I think of a traditional slingback dressy shoe, but there are lots of casual sandals that have the ankle strap that goes around the sides and back and not the front which make it a slingback. But if you are just a spectator next month, that’s okay, too!

All of the ladies look fabulous in pink! Such a wide array of interpreations and shades of this upbeat color. I especially like Marsha’s submission, her abstract print dress and matching hair ar fantastic, she really knocked it out of the park on this challenge! Thanks for hosting the challenge. I look forword to the November challenge, since since sling backs are my favorite type of shoe. Hope you have a good rest of the week!

Thanks so much, Di! I really loved seeing all the different variations of pink. I agree that Marsha’s dress is fabulous, particularly with her adorable pink hair! I am so glad that you joined us again this month. I look forward to seeing what slingbacks you will share with us next month!

I really liked seeing all the different pink styles, too! I am so glad that you joined us for this one. If you check out the definition of slingbacks, you might actually have some sandals that suit the theme! They really just need an ankle strap that goes around the sides and back but not the front of the ankle…that’s all it takes to make them slingbacks!
