The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-July 2018-Summer Hats

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after a year has passed, we decided to change the series a bit.

You can choose whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

Let’s start with my beautiful co-host, Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style, showing us the first image of this month’s theme, Summer Hats!

“I bought this one for this post. I don’t like to wear hats. They don’t look good on me and my hair gets messy!”

Michele of @seechele_styles shared her Good Buy hat.

“This thrifted straw hat was definitely a Good Buy!”

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style submitted a photo of her mom, Charlotte, wearing a Good Buy hat.

“This photo is my mom with her summer hat. It’s definitely a good buy for her because she needs the protection from the sun. In fact, she added the string so it can hang on her back and scarf around the brim to the hat for decoration. She’s had this hat for many years.”

Sonja of YustSoMe is showing us her Good Buy fedora.

“Here is my contribution for the Summer Hats. I like to wear this type of hat, like a gentleman.”

“A hat is an essential at the beach or pool for protecting my skin and hair from the harmful rays of the sun. This hat is old but so good because it has an elasticized ban inside that helps it stay on my head. It also dries well. I wear it every time I go to the beach or enjoy a pool day!”

Cheryl of Northwest Mountain Living is showing one of her favorite styles of hat, the beret.

“I was so excited about joining your Good Buy/Good Bye post because I love hats. I have so many pictures of hats! It took me a while to find which hats suit my face shape, head size and lifestyle but when I narrowed it down I became a fan. I think in one of my upcoming posts I will do it on all my hats. I decided this picture of a beret would be a good example of a hat that fits my face. I like to put mine at a slant but there are so many ways to position a beret that almost anyone can wear one. I also like the color navy since I think it goes with almost anything and works for most seasons.”

Nicole of High Latitude Style is showcasing a gorgeous sequined hat.

“I’ve been a hat lover all my life. I remember having had a red fedora as a toddler. I wore a hat at my wedding. Well in Alaska, I have to wear a hat in winter, but I also wear hats in summer. I even wear a hat when dancing. It’s a sequin cap.”

“My Good Buy Hat is a souvenir from at trip to see my in-laws in Arizona last July. Why anyone would go to Arizona in July is another story completely! In the town closest to them is a fabulous and well-known hatter. Val Kilmer requested a hat from him for the film Tombstone. I have been wanting a good sunhat, but my head is small, and all the ones in the shops are just too darn large. And what good is a sunhat that is always blowing off? The shop had a huge selection of beautifully woven straw hats from Guatemala with so many crown and brim shapes and sizes, it was a challenge to choose. After I selected mine, the man behind the counter asked how I wanted it. “How did I want the brim turned up, and the crown creased?” He was surprised that I didn’t want it changed (Not very interesting, me!) But I love it just the way it is, AND it’s nice and snug on my little head. Woo hoo!”

Susan, who is one of my newest friends whom I met through blogging (she reads my blog and leaves the best comments). She is sharing her favorite summer hat.

“Here is my two dollar Walmart hat for inclusion in your Good Buy book. I love it and will keep it, because it goes very well with my off the shoulder shirt, and keeps the sun off my already red face.”

Kim, another reader, is sharing her Good Buy hat, too!

“I found this Columbia Sportswear hat at a small flea market style store for $4.00. It had never been worn, still had its original tags. It’s a fun hat, perfect for the Florida sun. Definitely a Good Buy!”

And my Good Buy hat!

“I picked up this straw cloche from Target last year and I wear it quite often. The cloche style suits my head and face shape and there is just enough brim to keep the sun out of my eyes. A Good Buy, for sure, as it is neutral and classic and works with most of my summer outfits.”

Thank you all so very much for participating with us! You are all so lovely, stylish and elegant. We loved to see your Summer Hats!  Be sure to check Nancy’s post for other fabulous Summer Hats!

The theme for August is my favorite thing ever, Kimonos!
