Happy Friday, y’all! Today I wanted to share with you the gorgeous gifts I received from my boys for Mother’s Day this year. Jeff took the boys to Rainbow Zen, my favorite store for all things bohemian and hippie, and he let them choose some things that they thought I would like. It is not a difficult task, however, to find things that I would like in Rainbow Zen since I like everything in that store. You can see some of the clothing and home decor items that I have purchased there if you just search “Rainbow Zen” on my blog.

The boys went shopping the day before Mother’s Day and simply couldn’t wait to give me my gifts. As soon as they returned home from their shopping excursion, they immediately handed me the brown paper bag that held my gifts as Jeff hurried them into the other room to sign the card. I do appreciate their enthusiasm for giving gifts but they might need some lessons in patience!

Apparently, Archie is the master of choosing the gifts because he picked out this gorgeous blanket scarf and the beaded earrings to go with it. Honestly, he couldn’t have chosen any better. Look at the magnificent colors and pattern on this thing! They are all my favorite bold vibrant boho colors and look how perfectly it coordinates with my colorful space dyed cardigan.

Since the scarf and earrings screamed bohemian festival to me, I styled them with flared denim, western style ankle boots, a cowgirl hat, and a matching tassel necklace. I added my navy blue “favorite tunic” from Torrid to coordinate with boots. These tunics are so good. They are super soft with elbow length sleeves and a shirttail hem which makes them perfect for wearing with leggings. I recently picked up four of these tees in navy, black, tie dye, and olive green splatter print, and find myself consistently reaching for them.

But enough about the tee. Let me get back to the awesome scarf and take this opportunity to share some fun things that blanket scarves can be used for!

  • Wear it as a scarf.
  • Wear it as a skirt.
  • Use it as a lap blanket.
  • Use it as a picnic blanket.
  • Roll it up and use it as a pillow.
  • Hang it like a wall tapestry.
  • Use it as a table runner.

I remember when my kids were really young, I always had blanket scarves with me because they are perfect for sitting on in the park and big enough to swaddle a small child if necessary. I have so many of these things that I could probably sew them together and make a dozen king sized blankets! Hmmm…that is something to keep in mind if I am ever compelled to start such a project as that.

If you look closely at the scarf, you may be able to tell that the colors appear in different saturations on both sides so you get almost two scarves in one! In addition to my beautiful scarf and earrings and adorable kitty cat card, Jeff also got me the yoga cushion which I had been wanting. It is so good for meditation and certain yoga poses as well. Now I need a new yoga mat because mine is just getting really gross and I cannot figure out how to properly clean the darn thing. Any recommendations for a good quality yoga mat would be greatly appreciated!

And now I must ready myself for eviction day! We have a squirrel who has nested in one of the eaves of our house and when we went searching for her nest, we discovered that all of the wooden beams in that area of the house are rotting. So today is the day the squirrel gets removed and the beams get repaired. What should have been a $300 pest removal issue has now turned into a $3500 home repair issue. I will share more about this crazy squirrel story later! Right now I might need to smoke more weed after typing out those dollar amounts!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. May your home be pest and rot-free!

Oh, that is such a sweet story about how your boys picked out and gave you your Mother’s Day gift. They did well. The scarf and earrings are beautiful and I love how you pulled everything all together.

Thanks so much, Amy! I sometimes get angry with my kids for being too thoughtless in their daily activities…you know how kids are…but then I realize that they are really very thoughtful humans and that makes me feel proud!

Your boys certainly did a fantastic job of picking out gifts for you! That blanket scarf is stunning-both sides of it! And the earrings look so pretty with it too!

Oh that is so lovely when kids choose the gifts. And what a gorgeous gifts, and such lovely card. But what a bummer about the beams. Don’t think too long about it, it’s only money…….uhm.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Nancy! I am trying not to think too much about it but with each step of the process the number keeps getting bigger! It’s not killing us yet, so I am grateful to be in that position financially. I’m sure I’ll have funny stories about it all when we Zoom on Tuesday!

What a beautiful blanket scarf Shelbee! I would definitley use it as a table runner when I’m not wearing it, in fact, I’ve done that with a few scarves. Your boys have good taste but it’s easy if they shop in a store where you love everything! Glad you had a lovely Mother’s Day!

    Happy Friday!

Thanks so much, Carmen! I do love the idea of using scarves in home decor…as table runners or draped over lamps or displayed in whatever creative ways move you. My boys definitely had it easy in Rainbow Zen, but at least they knew it was my favorite store and went there specifically for my gift! I am truly blessed.

Thanks so much, Di! They couldn’t have chosen anything better, in my opinion. I want to wear this scarf everywhere! Rainbow Zen is such a wonderful shop. I need to go checck out what’s new for summer there!

OH geez! I didn’t know squirrels could cause that much damage! Although my MIL has them in her attic!
LOve the gifts they bought you and that scarf is so pretty! Love the pattern and colors and it does go PERFECTLY with the duster! Such fun styling and it will look perfect fo the music festivals you enjoy going to!

Thanks so much, Jess! I am going to wear the heck out of this scarf, for sure. The squirrel didn’t cause too much damage. Once we found the nest though we discovered the boards are all rotten. Apparently they were rotten when the flipper who flipped the house re-sided it. They just covered up the already rotten wood. That was probably 10 years ago…compounded by 10 more years of rot and the whole thing needs to be replaced! Ugh…the scaffolding is being erected as I type this…

Thanks for hosting these! I got your weekly link-up listed on my blogging page of my blog now. It’s a short list because I’m still finding link-ups to go to and meet the other bloggers. Yours is one of my faves because I have the whole boy mom thing in common with you. Plus, I’m not a fashion blogger, but I do love clothes. I have one blanket sarf. And it’s so pretty I haven’t been able to part with it, but I’ve always been a little clueless about how to wear it. I am admittedly more of a sweatshirt person when I’m cold.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

April, thanks so much! I am so glad that I have a place for people to come together and share all the things that bring us joy! I also love how blog genres can collide together in the most beautiful ways! As much as I love playing dress up and taking outfit photos for my blog, I am generally wearing leggings and a hoodie and rarely ever wear shoes because I rarely leave my house! Haha. So we have that in common, too…we love clothes but sweatshirts are our jam! As for your blanket scarf, there are tons of great tutorials on line for scarf tying options. I have never written one or I would link it here! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Oh, Shelbee, you certainly have fabulous little gift givers! I love this boho hippie look…with a little cowgirl thrown in! I have a couple of blanket scarves, but they’re usually so big. I need to do what Mireille did and chop them in two! Those doggone squirrels…but, I guess they did you a favor by letting you know your wood was rotten (I’m giggling as I type that)! Hope eviction day went well! Thanks for the link up!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Marsha! I was so proud of my little guys and their gift giving abilities! Mireille’s blanket scarf fix was brilliant! I was going to try it with some of my square blanket scarves, too. So yesterday the roofers tore out all the rotten boards and removed the squirrel nest. They are putting it all back together next week but I do believe the squirrel relocated and is building a new nest on the other side of the roof now. So we have to finish the roof first and seal off any openings where the squirrels can get in. Then we need to find him and get him out. Apparently this is common squirrel behavior but it is still pissing me off! Fingers crossed this all resolved by next weekend!

Thanks so much, Emma! It really is adorable when they get so excited and can’t wait! I just did the same thing to my husband and gave him his birthday present a week early because I just couldn’t wait!

Your family did such an awesome job at choosing gifts! That scarf / blanket is just gorgeous. As are the earrings. The yoga cushion looks so pretty and comfy. I wish there was a Rainbow Zen near me. (Of course, I do have those fabulous shops downtown that carry some amazing hippie vibe stuff. 😄

Thanks, Michelle! This scarf is going to be my festival scarf from now on! You would love Rainbow Zen! They have some things online but in store is way better. You are right though…you have some really fantastic hippie stores near you!

The boys did a great job with your Mother’s Day gifts and I bet they could not contain themselves when they made their purchases!
But, the squirrels. We had a problem too and it cost a ton, we literally could not get rid of the squirrel and then even when the repairs were made and the squirrel could not get back in, the darn thing continued to try. I think (sadly) she may have had babies that were trapped inside. But she ate the heck out of the wood trim on our house. It was terrible and so expensive! I feel for you!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Kellyann! My kids are pretty cool! But the squirrels are not. Haha. I heard them running around up there Friday and Saturday but they have been silent since Saturday afternoon. The roofers will be working on the roof all week so hopefully that will keep her away while they seal it up and maybe she will stay out. They are persistent little critters though, for sure. And it is birthing season so they are nesting for the babies now. Arghh…

Thank you so much for the feature, Shelbee! Love seeing your Mohter’s Day gifts in action! That scarf is so pretty – love that it’s double sided too! As for the yoga mat – how often do you practice? At one point, I used to practice 1-2 times a day so I invested in a good quality mat from Manduka. I got the pro version, which is not cheap by any means but it’s worth it if you are an avid yogi (I got mine for half off so I would check to see if any are on sale). I’ve had mine for almost 10 years and it still looks brand new (plus no more worn out yoga mats)! If your mat just needs a cleaning, try mixing a bit of dish soap in water and using a soft cloth to clean it. There is also santitation spray that you can buy. Hope that helps!!

Thanks so much, Lizzie! I am so happy with my new scarf and earrings! As for yoga, I do try to practice at least once a day, twice a day if I can fit it in and feel like I need it. So I think it’s definitely worth my investment to upgrade to a better quality mat. For now, I have been covering my icky mat with a blanket because I don’t want to put my face on it! Haha. Thanks for the recommendation! I checked our the Manduka mats on Amazon and the prices are not too bad at all.

It’s touching to see the gifts your boys bought you and how well they understand your free, independent and bohemian nature. Have a great weekend Shelbee.

Thanks so much, Zim! It the most wonderful little hippy shop! I actually have to go there today to exchange some things for my husband. I bought him all the wrong sizes! I hope you have a lovely weekend.
