Songful Style | “Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #290
Yesterday, we shared our sartorial interpretations of Beth Hart’s “Mama” so now it is time to share the inspirational details for our next Songful Style challenge. Marsha has chosen “Over the Rainbow” by Hawaiian musician, singer, songwriter, and sovereignty activist Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, one of the very best versions of this timelessly classic song that I have ever heard. About Songful Style Songful Style is an ageless style challenge series hosted by Suzy of The Grey Brunette, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Each month we will share a song with the lyrics and video and we invite you to use whatever aspect of the song that inspires…

The Magnificent 8 in Peach Fuzz: Pantone’s Color of the Year
Everyone seems to be raving about Peach Fuzz, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2024, but I am not one of them. In fact, I have very little in peachy hues as it is one of the least flattering colors on me. And I don’t think I am alone on that. Although Pantone is recognized globally as the leading source of color expertise, this year’s expert analysis certainly didn’t include someone of my complexion or taste preferences in their data. The internal consulting service known as The Pantone Color Institute™ forecasts global color trends which assist companies through product development using color as a strategic asset. These color experts have…

The Thrifty Six in Denim Days
It was my turn to choose this month’s thrifty theme and I went for Denim Days for a variety of reasons. I probably wear denim the most frequently at this time of year as we transition from winter to spring and the weather is still cool. I also have a lot of thrifted and preloved denim items which would make it easy for me to style a denim based outfit without shopping for something new. Ironically, however, I never did style a new denim themed outfit for this challenge because the weather has been complete shit. It has been raining for days, the ground is all muddy, the sky is…

New York State of Mind & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #693
I am writing this post on Tuesday morning, sitting on Becca’s couch in beautiful Tuckasegee, North Carolina, while her adorable pup Emmylou snores beside me. It is too dark to capture a photo right now so I went and swiped one from Becca’s Facebook page. Just look at that face! Emmylou and I are kindred spirits. She is most definitely my favorite canine on the planet. My trip has been wonderful so far. I drove most of Saturday and Sunday and I was so grateful for clear weather and light traffic the whole way. Becca invited her friends Gordon and Billy over for dinner on Sunday night which was really…

The Magnificent 8 are Celebrating the Year of the Dragon
As we are quickly approaching the start of the Chinese New Year, I thought it might be fun for my group of magnificently ageless friends to style outfits for the Year of the Dragon. Preparations for the new year begin on February 2 and last until New Year’s Eve on February 9. This first week is known as Little Year. February 10 marks the official beginning of the Chinese New Year with the Spring Festival lasting until February 20. Finally, arrangements begin on February 21 for the Lantern Festival which is held on February 24. Although I was the one who suggested the Year of the Dragon as our style…

Give the Gift of Music This Holiday Season & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #682
This holiday gift idea was inspired by my son and by my favorite bluegrass band, Fireside Collective. Just the other day, my 12 year old asked if we could update our free Spotify account to a premium account. He saw an ad offering premium for $4.99 a month for students. He figured he is a student and he gets an allowance so he could pay for it himself. Only to later discover that the student discounted rate is reserved for college students who attend accredited universities. So if you’re 12 and want premium, it is going to cost you $11.99 a month. Not wanting him to spend over 25% of…

Celebrating My Life in Color with Teddy Blake
The end of the year has a unique tendency to make me feel a bit more reflective and introspective. Particularly so this year since 2023 marks my final year as a 40-something. While I won’t officially reach that semicentennial milestone until May 30, 2024, I do plan to celebrate my golden birthday all year long. Because surviving half of century in this crazy world is something worthy of celebration. It’s kind of a big deal, y’all. I don’t know exactly how I am going to celebrate next year but I am starting right now with a mission of being unapologetically colorful, vibrant, and visible. And this stunning purple bag from…

Minimalism at Its Best (or Worst) & Your Own Twist Link Up #62
This post is much more about minimalism at its worst! Because I don’t do minimalism which has caused me to fail my first style challenge in 8 years. That’s not a bad track record considering this is the second to last post of five plus years of this series and my first failure. Yes, I do recognize that I have completely and totally failed at creating a minimalist outfit. I am not a minimalist when it comes to my wardrobe and sartorial choices. I never was and I doubt I ever will be. Talk about being outside your comfort zone. A minimalist outfit would never do for me. I would…

Mushroom Madness and the Converse Queen & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #675
I mentioned yesterday that we just returned from a 5 day road trip to Asheville, North Carolina, and I am still trying to catch up on things in blogland including the sifting through of vacation photos before I can share more about our trip. I was ready to really get rolling on things yesterday morning after taking the kids to school when we received a notification two hours into the school day that the kids would be dismissed in one hour. There was a water main break that has sent our little town into a governor- declared state of emergency. We essentially ran out of water. Although the break was…
