I chose 3 coordinating pieces because I wanted the challenge of styling as many different outfit combinations as I could. I ended up with 5 unique outfits that suit all the sides of my style and personality perfectly.

Still on my quest to add more purple to my closet for school events, here are the 3 items I chose.

Outfit 1: Dress, Pants, and Vest

For my first outfit, I layered all 3 pieces together. The loose flowy dress over the wide legged pants with the vest on top as a completer piece. The vest top has an elasticized waist at the back, which cinches it comfortably and creates a figure flattering silhouette. It looks great as a top layer, a bottom layer, or by itself.

Because this outfit has a lot of volume and a lot of purple, I kept my accessories simple but not without personality. I added an old black sparkly cloche hat, even older black patent loafers, a shiny butterfly barrette in my hair, and sleek chandelier earrings.

Is it a Shelbee outfit? Yes, it is.

Outfit 2: Dress and Vest

For my second outfit, I took off the trousers and added a wide black belt with a big gold buckle around the vest top. Then I cowgirl-ed it up a bit with my black Western hat and a recently thrifted pair of shiny black cowboy boots. I wore new gold heart earrings and a simple black leather choker style necklace.

Is this a Shelbee outfit? You bet it is.

Outfit 3: Just the Dress

For the third outfit, I shed the vest and styled the dress by itself. It’s really an adorable dress. I love the loose fit, the midi length, the half length sleeves, the higher V-neck, and of course, the pockets. Also, the gorgeous shade of purple. Ooh, it’s so, so good.

I added another pair of boots to my collection recently and they have stunning purple flowers bedazzled on them that demanded to be styled with this purple dress. To break up the big swath of purple covering my body, I added a large fringy necklace in the same orangey yellow colors of my boots. My rust colored Panama hat and thrifted earrings in coordinating colors completed this simple outfit combination while maintaining my personality.

Is this one a Shelbee outfit? It sure is.

Outfit 4: Pants and Dress

For the fourth outfit, I put the pants back on underneath the dress. I have long been a fan of wearing dresses over trousers and when I spotted these two pieces among my options, I immediately knew I wanted to wear them together. The combination did not disappoint me. My purple hand-felted hat matched this vibrant outfit in the best way possible and my two chunky layered necklaces and colorful raggy earrings added the perfect amount of rainbow. My neutral tan rope sandals were an inconspicuous choice that fit the vibe of this fun boho style.

Is this combination a Shelbee outfit? It most certainly is. In fact, this is my favorite of the five outfits.

Outfit 5: Pants and Vest

For my fifth and final outfit, I took off the dress and put the vest top back on. Now you can see how cute and flattering this top is all by itself. And how amazing are these trousers? They have super wide legs as well as a flattering pleated front with a button closure and an elasticized back, making them incredibly comfortable and very giving when the midlife bloat settles in. They also have pockets of a functional size.

Again, I kept my accessories minimal with a long copper heart pendant and thrifted copper earrings, my black Salt Water sandals that I’ve been wearing all summer long, and a new straw hat with a black ribbon band.

Does this outfit reflect Shelbee? Absolutely. This is my husband’s favorite outfit of the five.

I think I can get on board with this minimalist styling. (Shhh…don’t tell anyone I said that. I will forever be a maximalist!) But seriously, as much as I love all my crazy layers, when it’s hot and humid and heat flashes come flying from the depths of hell’s kitchen, minimalism is the way to go.
